Abstract:The Chinese Dictionary is a dictionary which represents the highest level of achievement in the compilation of Chinese dictionaries.But due to a lack of an examination of the common books,there exist many problems in the handling of appellatives such as the incomplete listing of entries and senses,the unclear definition of meanings,and the inappropriate citing of evidences.This paper is trying to show that the compilation of dictionaries reguires prior research on the vocabahary of common books.

Abstract:The punctuated and emendated edition of《New Tang History》which was published by ZhongHua publishing house is famous for the world,on the other hand there are some limitations. The new recension will still use the same original edition Bainaben. we will exactly collate all kinds of fragments of Song editon,extant and integrated Yuan editions which include the Ming's recension,company with Jigu attic edition of Mr mao, WU-ying-dian of Qing dynasty and zhejiang pubishing house edition, we will emphasize on comparing the book to itself and the others.At the same time, we will absorb the researches of former wisdoms and contemporary scholars to provide a new untimate edition which has strict criterion, accurate punctuation and aborative collation.

Abstract:Xinhua Dictionary is the most influential and authoritative Chinese dictionary,published after 1949.Up till now,it has the circulation of 400 million copies.It is accepted by the experts,scholars and readers home and abroad for its scientific and accurate explanation.Its revised edition in 1971,revised and published in the period of the Cultural Revolution,was an extremely special one,an edition with the largest circulation as well.Therefore,it is worthwhile to have a thorough and careful study on its revising process and its annotated content.In the article some relevant recalls are made to introduce how Premier Zhou Enlai conducted the work and showed his concern about the revision and publication of Xinhua Dictionary.

Abstract:Song Dan is the first scholar to discover Lin Yutang’ s unpublished English translation of The Red Chamber Dream stored in Japan. Based on the discovery and research of Lin’s translation, Song Dan authors the book Collation and Research of Lin Yutang’s Unpublished English Translation of THE RED CHAMBER DREAM Stored in Japan, which accurately solves the three problems of Lin’s choice of source text, translation time, and why it was translated and published in Japan. Through the integration of materials and methods, the book, with its detailed analysis, addresses well the basic questions of Lin’s translation strategies, characteristics, and significance. It also makes a useful exploration on the methodologies of multilingual or cross-cultural translation research. Moreover, the meticulous collation is helpful to understand Lin’s translation more directly and vividly. This book provides new literature for both the translation study of The Red Chamber Dream and the study of Lin Yutang. It not only presents a new paradigm for the study of translators’ manuscripts, but also can arouse the circle of Redology to rethink the sequel problem and Lin’s study of The Red Chamber Dream. The author’s perseverance and diligence in research are commendable, and her innovative way to integrate materials and methods is also enlightening for the current translation studies.

Abstract:Xunzijiaoshi(荀子校释) provides precise and appropriate annotations to Xunzi(荀子).It compiled and revisited the previous research available both within and without the country,dissolved doubts and problems and offered insightful opinions of the text of Xunzi.Nevertheless,little omissions and small errors are inevitable.Five mistakes are analyzed in this article: qi(齐) in heqi(和齐)shall not be pronounced differently;Shuai(率) has been mispronounced twice;Juan(蠲) in juanyi(蠲疑) is a borrowed character of ■,She(埶) in shezaibenchao shall be pronunced as she(设),and aishe(隘慑) is identical to dianai(垫隘) in Zuo.

Abstract:With language in a heroic and vigorous writing style,the source text of this translation project, Pei Du-A Well-known Prime Minister in Tang dynasty, presents the readers an honorable and upright image of Pei Du with historical narration and discussion: returning treasure belts, pacifying Huaixi Rebellion and reining the eunuchs. Guided by the Excellence Theory put forward by Prof. Xu Yuanchong, the translator adopted the strategy of foreignization and the method of transliteration plus annotation for some terminologies, and the strategy of domestication and the method of addition and free translation to better target language readers’ experiences in reading, since the source text is distinctive with rich historical background and quotations of ancient Chinese, such as the poem Congratulations to Duke of Jin(Pei Du) at the Peach Orchard by Night written by Han Yu and some ancient Chinese official titles.

Abstract:This article analyzes and corrects 61 mistakes in Zhouli Zhengyi(Vol.4)published by Zhonghua Book Company,which includes incorrect acceptances on the views between the Yis(i乙巳)edition and the Chu(楚)edition,and mutual mistakes resulting from the context,similar graphemes and meanings as well as redundancy,transpositions and wrong provenances.In addition,this article detects 46 mistakes in punctuations,omitted collations,confusing quotations,incorrect pauses,pauses at the wrong places,and mistakes in marking book titles,geographical and personal names.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the shortcomings in compiling dictionaries of Chinese as a foreign language from the perspective of optimal relevance in comprehending languages.We may find in the dictionaries esoteric explanations for some entries,inconsistencies between the translations from Chinese to English and the translations from English to Chinese,not clearly distinguished meaning of some items,insufficient interpretation of cultural meanings,incomprehensible and atypical examples,too many written language items,outdated examples,no or few examples for some words,arrangement of examples without considering grammatical distributions,too small scale,and unappealing or irrelevant examples,etc.Some pragmatic measures must be taken to deal with these problems accordingly.
