Abstract:An expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB)-moving bed biomembrane reactor (MBBR) system was used to treat high-concentration and refractory polyester wastewater (COD≥10 000 mg/L,BOD5/COD<0.3). The experimental results show that:Under the conditions of temperature (37±1) ℃,HRT 15.4 h,influent COD 10 000 mg/L,the volume loading of EGSB can reach 5.31 kg/(m3·d) and the COD removal rate can come up to above 95%; Under the conditions of ambient temperature and HRT 48.0 h,the COD and BOD5 of MBBR effluent can be less than 100 mg/L and 30 mg/L respectively,which can meet the first grade standards of GB8978-1996.
SBR co-metabolism process for the advanced treatment of petrochemical wastewater

Abstract:The nutritional and operational conditions of a SBR co-metabolism process were investigated in order to realize the advanced treatment of the secondary effluent of a petrochemical wastewater treatment plant. The results showed that the best co-metabolism substrate was starch. After co-metabolic degradation of 12 h,COD concentration of the secondary effluent was reduced by 79.58% and odor,ammonia nitrogen,BOD5 and other water quality indicators were also improved under the following conditions:dosage,30 mg/L;shaking speed,120 r/min;temperature,25 ℃;MLSS,2320 mg/L. The optimum operating conditions for the SBR co-metabolic process were determined to be operation period of 6 h,aeration intensity of 30 L/h,starch dosage of 30 mg/L, anoxic/aerobic time ratio of 1/2. Domestic sewage could replace starch as co-metabolism substrate. The constant addition of excess sludge didn’t affect the degradation of the pollutants and the excess sludge amount was reduced. Therefore,SBR co-metabolism process could be feasible for the advanced treatment of petrochemical wastewater,domestic wastewater treatment and excess sludge reduction.

Abstract:Using MBR process for polyester wastewater treatment can improve the concentration of activated sludge, and the efficiency of aerobic treatment process for treating polyester wastewater greatly. By using the combined process of anaerobic-MBR-oxidation pond, a polyester wastewater treatment station in Zhuhai has been reformed. The COD removal rate keeps going higher, and, meanwhile, every index can meet the requirements of the first grade of the Guangdong local standard of discharging standard(DB 44/26—2001). Compared with the original anaerobic-biological contact oxidation-oxidation pond process, the cost of the MBR process has been reduced more than 40%. It shows that MBR is a kind of highly efficient and economical technology, having stable performances.

Abstract:In this experiment, Fiber-glass wastewater was treated with coagulating and SBR plus charcoal adsorption process. It was found that good effect couldn't be gained if macromolecule organic coagulant was used separately. And when it was used together with inorganic coagulant, cationic organic coagulant was found to have better effect than that of anionic. The best pH value for complex coagulate of PAM+ and PAC was 7.5 and their best ratio was 0.002 to 2.4g/L. After biochemical treatment with SBR, organic matters in the wastewater were biodegraded effectively, the COD of effluent was about 135mg/L and a removal efficiency of 70% was obtained. The charcoal adsorption in latter treatment was found to have obvious effect, the removal efficiency was higher than 60%. The result in normal temperature showed that the COD of effluent is 55mg/L when that of the influent was 900mg/L, the total removal efficiency reached 93.9%, meeting the national integrated wastewater discharge standard of first class.

Abstract:Based on the common activated sludge floc,aerobic granular sludge were successfully developed in a pilot-scale sequencing batch reactor(SBR) for the treatment of real municipal wastewater.The granular sludge could be formed on the 27th day in SBR by decreasing the settling time to 5 min gradually.The granular sludge became stable on the 52nd day and kept increasing in the average diameter size to 0.706 mm.The MLSS,SV and SVI of the mature granular sludge was 12.19 g/L,0.26 and 21.31 mL/g,respectively.Examinations with optical microscope (OM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) showed that mature granular kept internal structure closely and surface smoothly,held regular shapes with a brown-yellow including spherical,elliptic ball and rods.During the stable operation phase of the reactor,the effluent COD,ammonia nitrogen,total nitrogen (TN)and soluble phosphorus (SP) concentrations were less than 60 mg/L,0.2 mg/L,15 mg/L and 1.0 mg/L,respectively.It was shown that granular sludge had a high removal performance for contaminant.
Characteristics of Submerged SMSBR in Removal of Organic Matters and Nitrogen from Coke Plant Wastewater

Abstract:A SMSBR was used for treating coke plant wastewater and enhanced effects of membrane separation on the treatment efficiencies were investigated. The purpose of the study was to make effluent COD meet the new discharge standard( ＜ 100 mg/L), and increase the removal efficiency of nitrogen. The result shows that effluent COD is steadily below 100 mg/L (86.4 mg/L on the average)at the HRT of 32.7 h and the COD volume loading rate of 0.45 kg/(m3 · d). To reach the new effluent discharge standard, COD volume loading rate should be lower than 0.67 kg/(m3·d). In this condition effluent COD fluctuates around 100 mg/L (106.3 mg/L on the average). The COD removal is enhanced by denitrification appearing in the aerobic stage. The effluent NH3 - N is lower than 1 mg/L when temperature, alkalinity, and dissolved oxygen in the system are under control and there is no COD shock－load. NO2－NJNO3－N in the effluent from the aerobic stage is 91.1% on the average because nitrifers in nitrification process are inhibited by the metabolic products of microorganisms due to long sludge age. This shows that short－cut nitrification/denitrification is obtained with high efficiency and stability in the system, and is benefit for further removal of nitrogen. SMSBR system operates in anoxic－aerobic－anoxic mode, HRT of the second anoxic stage is longer than 8.44 h and carbon source is added ( COD/N = 2.1), the average removal efficiency of total nitrogen can reach 87.2 %(90.2 % as the maximum) and efficiency of denitrification can reach 81.34 % 。

Abstract:A new method of hydrolytic acidification-sequencing batch reactor (SBR) process in aquatic products processing wastewater treatment is given. In the stage of the pretreatment, the hydrolysis-acidification technology was adopted, it is effective to improve the biodegradability of the wastewater. The SBR method was used in the stage of biochemical treatment.The experimental results show that the quality of aquatic products processing wastewater can attain to the national requirements of the first grade of integrated wastewater discharge standard (GB 8978 - 1996). When wastewater temperature was 20 degrees C, HRT was over 6 h and influent COD, BOD, and SS was 1100-1650 mg/L, 500-750 mg/L and 250-400 mg/L respectively, with more 95%, 96% and 92% of average removal rate respectively, the average effluent COD, BOD5 and SS was 55.5 mg/L, 19.8 mg/L and 20.0 mg/L. The largest organic loading was 4.1 kg COD/m(3) d. The BOD5/COD value of aquatic product processing wastewater can be raised from 0.50 to 0.64 via hydrolytic acidification treatment.
Improvement in Post-Treatment of Digested Swine Wastewater

Abstract:The performance of sequencing batch reactor (SBR) during post-treatment of digested effluent of swine wastewater was investigated. While operating SBR to treat the digested effluent directly, the performance was very poor with COD removal rate about 10%, and NH4+-N removal rate nearly 50%, with a scarce removal of total phosphorus. The performance apparently improved after adding raw swine wastewater or alkali to digested effluent. Although similar results for NH4+-N removal were achieved adopting both measures, the addition of raw wastewater proved superior in removing total nitrogen and total phosphorus. The addition of raw wastewater obtained effluent COD around 300 mg/L which was lower than that after alkali addition i.e. around 550 mg/L. Judged from the investment, oxygen demand, sludge yield, biogas production and running cost, the traditional combined anaerobic-SBR process is unfeasible to treat swine wastewater, while the combined anaerobic-SBR process with addition of raw swine wastewater can be a suitable biotechnology.
Aerobic Co-metabolism for Treatment of Wastewater from Reduction Section of DSD Acid Production

Abstract:Under the process of co-metabolism,wastewater from the reduction section in DSD acid production can be treated by the SBR process.The factors affecting pollutant removal in the wastewater,such as the glucose dosage,HRT and DO were investigated.The results show that the addition of glucose can improve biodegradability of the wastewater.The obtained optimal parameters of SBR are the dosage of glucose of 250 mg/L,pH of 6-7,HRT of 6 h,temperature of 36 ℃ and MLSS of(3 000)-4 000 mg/L.During continuous operation under these parameters,the removal efficiencies of COD,NH~+_4-N and chromaticity are 83%,92% and 87% respectively.
Study on Starch Synthetic Wastewater Treatment by SBR Process

Abstract:The effects of anoxia time, aeration time, temperature and the organic load on the treatment of starch wastewater in SBR reactor were investigated by using synthetic starch wastewater. It is shown that starch wastewater could be efficiently treated at room temperature. Aerobic phase alone was sufficient for starch removal when starch concentration and CODc_r were less than 1.0 g·L~(-1), 1 150 mg·L~(-1), respectively. When increasing the organic load, anoxic phase was required to degrade most of the starch into organic acid. It was also found that CODc_r was hardly removed by the anoxic biodegradation, whereas CODc_r was mostly eliminated in aerobic phase. Moreover, SBR process seemed more insensitive to load fluctuation. Starch and CODc_r removal efficiency achieved 97.3% and 94.5%, respectively, when starch concentration in influent reached 6.0 g·L~(-1) (CODc_r: 6 690 mg·L~(-1)). Both the starch and CODc_r removal efficiency kept stable during over-one-month operation.

Abstract:The influencing factors and efficiency are studied when the process of attached anoxic-oxic biological film process is applied to the treatment of polyester wastewater.When the CODCr of influent is lower than 1400mg/L,organic load of anoxic zone is less than 3.36kg/(m~3 ·d) and total HRT is 18h,festively and plenty of microorganisms enhance the durability against shock loading.

Abstract:A sequencing batch membrane bioreactor (SBMBR) couple with internal electrolysis and Fenton oxidization was used to treat acrylic fiber wastewater. At influent pH 3, reaction time of internal electrolysis and Fenton oxidization of both 2h, and constant H2O2 concentration of 1500 mg/L and Fe(superscript 2+) concentration of 600 mg/L, 70% COD was removed by the pretreatment process of internal electrolysis-Fenton oxidization and COD decreased from 1328 mg/L to 369 mg/L, BOD5/COD increased from 0.14 to 0.33, CN decreased from 8.6 mg/L to 0.215 mg/L, respectively. It would be benefit for subsequent biological treatment. The effluent of the pretreatment was then treated by SBMBR in HRT of 20h. The remove efficiency of COD, NH4(superscript +)-N, BOD5 and CN were 80%, 95%, 92.6% and 90.7%, respectively. The final effluent COD, NH4(superscript +)-N, BOD5, CN and SS were 61, 2.55, 9.3, 0.02, 13 mg/L, respectively.

Abstract:A total 2000 m3/d of pharmaceutical wastewater was treated with hydraulic acidification-SBR(Sequencing Batch Reactor)oxidation method.The treatment rate of COD is about 92.2%~95.8% with average of 94.23%.The treatment rate of NH3-N is between 82.7%~97.6% with average of 90.73%.After stable operation of system,all indexes of the effluent can meet the Second Grade Standard of GB8978-1996.The results show the optimum operation parameters of SBR are as follows,aeration time 8 h,sludge limitation load 0.23~0.28(kg CODcr/kg MLSS·d)and temperature 26℃~30℃.The results proved that the effect of this technology is steady and can adapt to major fluctuations.

Abstract:The performance of a submerged double-shaft rotary anaerobic membrane bioreactor (SDR-AMBR) for treatment of printing and dyeing wastewater was investigated after the structure of this reactor was optimized. The results showed that above 92% COD was removed, while influent COD was in the range 4500-6000 mg.L-1, and COD volume loading reached 20kg.m(-3).d(-1). The concentration of sludge reached 20 g.L-1, and the ratio MLVSS : MLSS was between 0.45 and 0.72. The reactor and rotation speed of membrane module's temperature had significant influence on membrane fouling.

Abstract:The experiment used the iron carbon micro-electorlysis combined with sequencing batch biofilm reactor(iron carbon micro-electorlysis-SBBR) process to treat acrylic fiber wastewater. The iron carbon micro-eletrolysis-SBBR process could make the COD of acylic fiber wastewater from 550~700mg/L down to 140~165mg/L or so, and the removal rate of DMAC and acrylonitrile could respectively reach to 97.8% and 100%. After long-term of operation, it was observed that the predominant microorganisms immobilized on the SBBR carriers were bacillus, filamentous fungus, and a small amount of coccus.

Abstract:As a typical refractory industrial wastewater, coal gasification wastewater has a high toxicity and poor biodegradability. In this paper, an anaerobic SBR-aerobic SBR process was used to treat coal gasification wastewater. Average removal efficiency of COD, total phenols, volatile phenols, NH4+-N were 65.1%, 79.6%, 99.5% and 99.39%, with final concentration in the effluent were 380 mg L-1, 45.2 mg L-1, 0.52 mg L-1 and 0.32 mg L-1, respectively. There are 72 kinds of organic matters in the influent, a total of 10 categories. After biological treatment, the types and concentration of organic matters in the effluent of A (anaerobic 48 h effluent), B (anaerobic 48 h-aerobic 48 h effluent), C (anaerobic 24 h effluent), D (anaerobic 24 h-aerobic 48 h effluent) has dropped significantly and the types of organic compounds were reduced to simpler 42, 45, 46 and 61 kinds, respectively. The process showed ascendancy in the treatment of toxic matters. Organics degradation and transformation were analysed by GC-MS. Additionally, microbial community analysis in anaerobic sludge was investigated by means of polymerase chain reaction denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) along with SEM, revealed that it had a great variety of bacterial dominant species. The study demonstrated that hydrolytic acidification at SBR anaerobic 24 h + aerobic 48 h could be a technically feasible method to enhance NH4+-N, COD, TP removal and degradation of complex organic compounds in coal gasification wastewater.

Abstract:Printing and dyeing wastewater is the main source of textile industrial pollution, since a variety of dyes and chemical agents are organic matter which is difficult to degrade, and thus the conventional biological treatment makes it difficult to attain a designated standard. In this paper, by adding high effective multi-strain microbe to coagulation-sedimentation and SBR process composite system, it was found that bioaugmentation enhanced the treatment of printing and dyeing wastewater with a COD about 900 mg•L^(-1) and achieved the desired results. In the waste water each contamination index achieved the discharge standard, in which the average effluent COD reached 91 mg•L^(-1) and the removal rate was 89.6%. The study shows that multi-strain bioaugmentation SBR process is feasible and effective in treating textile-dyeing wastewater.

Abstract:This paper presents the research work of treating straw pulp gray water by ABR, SBR and combined processing method of ABR-SBR Results have shown: as the HRT is 6 h, ABR raises the biodegradability (BOD 5/COD)value from 0 2-0 25 to 0 4-0 5; the optimal HRT of SBR is 8 h, and when running solely, SBR reduces 65% of COD; in the ABR-SBR combined processing method, the treatment effect of SBR markedly improves, the COD removal rate is about 80% The whole combined processing system can remove 90% of COD and BOD 5, and the system has powerful resistance to impact load

Abstract:Sequencing batch reactor( SBR) was applied to treat swine manure wastewater. The influence of aeration amount,pH,the sludge emission quantity,dilution ratio to raw wastewater and hydraulic retention time( HRT) on the quality of the effluent was investigated. Results showed that under the conditions of aeration a-mount of 375 L /( min·m3),pH of 8. 0 and excess sludge amount of 100 mL,the treatment efficiency of SBR was improved significantly and the highest removal rate of COD,P,and TKN reached 96. 37%,94. 14% and 99. 38%,respectively. Gradual decrease of dilution ratio was positive to cultivate activated sludge with treatment ability of the high concentration organic wastewater. And the average values of COD,P,and TKN were reduced from 9 161. 24,33. 41,1 502. 77 mg / L to 490. 11,5. 35,17. 84 mg / L,respectively. The reducing of HRT had little effect on removal rate of SBR.
