Abstract:Advanced teaching facilities and the policy of opening laboratories to students play an important role in raising the quality in the experimental teaching of Genetics. This article introduces the superiority of some advanced instruments and equipment (such as digital microscope mutual laboratory system, flow cytometry, and NIRSystems) in the experimental teaching of genetics, and illustrates with examples the significance of exposing students to experiments in developing their creative consciousness and creative ability. This article also offers some new concepts on the further improvement upon teaching in the laboratory.

Abstract:How to improve the appication performance of the teaching laboratory,not only has always been the focus of attention of the laboratory management department,but also has been a difficult problem in the universities. Therefore,it is particularly important to establish an effective laboratory performance evaluation system. In this paper,by using the basic principles and methods of Balanced Scorecard,according to the characteristics of laboratory management,the feasibility of the application of Balanced Scorecard in the laboratory performance evaluation is analyzed. The contents are in four dimensions,including finance,customers,internal processes and learning and growth. The laboratory basic model of the Balanced Scorecard and strategy maps have been designed. According to the strategy maps,assessment aims of 4 dimensions combined with laboratory performance evaluation content,assessment indicators have been designed. After this,a laboratory performance evaluation system is established.

Abstract:Talents cultivation is the major task and basic function of higher education.The cultivation of high-quality specialized innovative talents is closely related to experimental teaching and laboratory construction.A laboratory with advanced teaching philosophy,abundant experiment facilities and equipments,excellent experimental technical teams,and continuously accumulated experimental research results are the foundation and preconditions for talent cultivation.Based on the analysis of the basic construction and laboratory conditions of Tsinghua University,the experiences in laboratory teaching and optimization of laboratory resources are summarized.It is concluded that only through system guarantee and appropriate incentive measures,transformation,opening and sharing in appropriate channels and approaches,can the abundant experimental resources of higher education play a more important role in cultivation of innovation spirit,enhancement of practical problem solving ability,faster progress of students' practical skill learning,and overall improvement of talent quality.

Abstract:Training of residents and junior technicians in laboratory medicine is a typical adult education. With purpose to improve the training effect, this paper discusses how to integrate self-directed learning and experience-driven learning into curriculum implementation. Educators should carry out theoretical teaching under rule of learning cycle and involving theoretical teaching with skill training. By adopting multiple stage assessment and evaluation, we can build a reflective learning environment with equal emphasis on support and motivation.

Abstract:Minimal research papers have investigated the use of student evaluations on the laboratory, a learning medium usually run by teaching assistants with little control of the content, delivery and equipment. Finding the right mix of teaching assistants for the laboratory can be an onerous task due to the many skills required including theoretical and practical know-how, troubleshooting, safety and class management. Using larger classes with multiple teaching assistants, a team-based teaching (TBT) format may be advantageous. A rigorous three-year study across twenty-five courses over repetitive laboratory classes is analysed using a multi-level statistical model considering students, laboratory classes and courses. The study is used to investigate the effectiveness of the TBT format, and quantify the influence each demonstrator has on the laboratory experience. The study found that TBT is effective and the lead demonstrator most influential, influencing up to 55% of the laboratory experience evaluation.
