Abstract:In this paper, a novel single-stage isolated ACDC converter is proposed for single-phase high power PFC applications. The circuit is derived by combining the boost converter and the matrix-based isolated AC-DC converter. Compare to traditional PFC plus DC/DC configuration, this topology has no diode front end and the number of semiconductors in the current path is minimized. Thus the conduction loss is decreased. By adding a small clamping capacitor and two small size commutation inductors, soft-switching for all switches can be realized. Thus the system efficiency can be significantly improved. Furthermore, traditional PWM technology can be applied. Problems of resonant based soft-switching converters including large EMI filter size, high devices voltage and current stress, and low light load efficiency can be avoided. In this paper, the topology derivation and circuit operational analysis are given. The control strategy is introduced and a simulation is carried out to verify the circuit.

Abstract:Aiming at solving the problems of magnetic bias that may exist,large current stress,poor soft switching performance and duty cycle loss of phase-shift full-bridge circuit,a novel circuit topology that combines Boost circuit,phase-shift full-bridge circuit and resonant circuit was proposed.The working principles of the circuit were described firstly,and then the key waveform diagram of the circuit was given.A detailed study focusing on the conditions to achieve soft switching on the basis of working status and mathematical models with fundamental component method was made,and the design method to realize the soft switching of the novel DC/DC converter was given.The existing problems were studied and solutions were proposed.A 1 000 W prototype was developed.The experimental results indicate that the converter has a good performance,and verifies the correctness of the analysis and calculation.

Abstract:Continous current mode(CCM) Boost power factor correction(PFC) has been widely used because of its high input power factor and simple control.But it suffers from efficiency decrease under the light load or the low in-put voltage work condition.A novel enabling window control is proposed to improve the efficiency of Boost PFC,espe-cially under the light load or the low input voltage work condition.To improve the efficiency,lower switching frequen-cy is used in the selected window area to reduce the switching loss of MOSFET.The principle and design of proposed method are presented,furthermore,the validity of the proposed method is verified by experimental results which ob-tained from a 500 W prototype.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel single-stage soft-switching current-fed full-bridge AC/DC converter is proposed. By adding an additional commutation path, soft-switching can be realized for all power devices. The power density is also enhanced by eliminating the DC capacitor. Meanwhile, the conduction loss is also lowered through the use of the additional commutation path. Furthermore, the control strategy for the proposed converter is compatible with that for traditional PFC converter. This facilitates the use of well-developed analog control IC such as UC3854. In this paper, the topology derivation and circuit operational analysis are given. The control strategy is introduced. A simulation is carried out to verify the circuit functionality.

Abstract:Soft switching is one of the effective techniques to improve the efficiency and power density of power electronics converters. This article presents a comprehensive review of the soft-switching topologies used in single-phase photovoltaic (PV) inverters for residential applications. The topologies of single-phase PV inverters are investigated and divided into two types of power conversion stages: the PV interface stage for boosting PV voltage and the grid interface stage for feeding ac power to the grid. The soft-switching topologies for each type of power conversion stage are reviewed and compared, respectively, including the soft-switching mechanisms, efficiency, device ratings, and design challenges. Discussions and recommendations of soft-switching topologies for each stage are also provided. This article is an attempt to provide a helpful reference for engineers working on high-performance single-phase PV inverters.

Abstract:An approach for the design of a digital controller for single-phase Boost PFC is presented, which is performed by means of a standard DSP (TMS320LF2407). One main problem to implement digital control for power factor correction is the limited switching frequency due to the limited processor speed. An improved algorithm for PFC is proposed to overcome this problem. The main advantage of this method is that the CPU time requirement can be reduced, because the input voltage sampling, the output voltage sampling and most calculations can be accomplished in several switching cycles. Experimental results on a 500 W single-phase boost PFC converter show the effectiveness of the proposed solution, which demonstrate that the proposed strategy for PFC achieves unity input power factor with higher switching frequency than commonly used average current mode control.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel type power converter and its control method for implementing DC-AC, AC-DC-AC, AC-DC, and DC-DC power conversion. Compared with the conventional power converter, an auxiliary switch is inserted between the DC link and the external circuit. With a proper control, the DC voltage can be boosted, the auxiliary switch works as a full soft-switch, and more switches of the conventional power converter transfer in the zero voltage switching (ZVS) or in the zero current switching (ZCS) state. To describe the operating principle and the control, this paper focuses on a two-level three-phase DC-AC inverter. Experimental results will be presented to demonstrate the new features.

Abstract:According to the design ideology of softswitched extended-period quasi-resonant two-level Boost converter circuit,a soft switching cell of extend-period quasi-resonant had been added to the three-level Boost converter for power factor correction(PFC) applications,then a fully and simple soft-switched extended-period quasi-resonant three-level Boost converter for PFC circuit can be obtained. The proposed approach can effectively reduce the switching losses and electromagnetic interference(EMI) and it is verified through analysis,simulation and experiment.

The simulation results show that the prosposed circuit can accomplish both correction of the output buck-boost PFC and soft-switching of the switch devices.

Abstract:Power factor correction (PFC) circuit is used to restrain harmonic pollution in the grid.For the purpose of size and weight decrease,the switch frequency is increasing.In large power Boost PFC,the Boost converter always operates in continuous conduction mode(CCM).The reverse-recovery of the diode increases the switching loss of MOSFET.This paper presents a new topology using coupling inductor to establish an auxiliary loop.By using the auxiliary loop,the zero voltage switching(ZVS) of the main loop switch can be achieved.Through designing the self-inductance,mutual-inductance and dead time between the range of soft-switching and dead time is analyzed in the condition of 220 V input voltage 3 300 W output power PFC.And the design method of coupling inductance is presented.At last,the correctness of theoretical analysis is verified by experiment.

Abstract:Low conduction loss is the main advantage of bridgeless Boost PFC topology. In order to decrease switching loss and further improve efficiency, a bridgeless Boost PFC circuit with passive lossless snubber circuit is proposed. Using this snubber circuit, the power switches turn off with ZVS (zero voltage switching) and turn on with near ZCS (zero current switching) and the fast-recovery diodes operate at ZVS turn-on and turn-off. Prototype with one-cycle control chip IR1150 is designed after analyzing bridgeless Boost PFC and passive lossless snubber circuit. Experimental results verify that the snubber circuit can reduce switching dv/dt, di/dt and switching loss; the power factor is higher than 0.99 and the efficiency reaches 0.97 at 1.0 kW.

Abstract:The paper presents a novel single phase there-level PFC circuit with passive soft switching. The three-level Buck and Boost topologies are derived from the traditional diode clamped three-level inverters' bridge leg firstly. Then, a single phase three-level PFC circuit is discussed based on the three-level BOOST topology. Two passive soft switching snubber cells are added to three-level PFC circuit to soften the switching processes of the switches and freewheeling diodes. It's operating principle and design considerations are discribed in detail. At last, a 2kW prototype of the single phase three-level PFC with the passive soft switching is built and tested. The simulated and experimental results show that the circuit can realize the three-level PFC function and increase system efficiency as well as have no over-voltage stress on main power switches.

Abstract:Power factor correction(PFC) technology has been widely applied in various types of switching power device.Aiming at realizing the application of PFC technology in high power condition,a new interleaved Boost PFC converter with peak current mode control was presented.Firstly,a deep analysis on continue current mode of operation was made.And in the modeling of the circuit,the state-space averaging technique was used.Based on the transfer function of control loop,the regulator of the circuit was also designed.At last,a prototype of interleaved Boost PFC converter rated at 1.2 kW was built.The experimental results show that the converter has favorable effectiveness of the converter.

Abstract:The conventional Boost PFC usually suffers from high output voltage and low efficiency at low input condition. Recently, the Buck PFC has attracted a lot of research interests for its low output voltage and high efficiency at low input condition. However, the conventional Buck PFC converter usually has low power factor (PF) and poor harmonic performance due to the inherent dead angle of the input current, especially at low input condition. How to achieve high power factor, low output voltage and high efficiency at the same time is still a big challenge for the PFC converters. This paper proposes a family of hybrid PFC converter topologies combine the advantages of Boost PFC and Buck PFC converters, which feature low output voltage and continuous input current (high PF). The derivation methodology is presented. The experimental results verify the advantages of the proposed topologies.

Analyze the high current spike during turn-on transient of main switch based on simulation. The method to realize soft switch without additional devices is discussed and the problems existing in this method can be solved by the application of the new device effectively.

Abstract:This paper proposed a decoupled PFC concept and a novel three-phase PFC circuit operated in quasi zero voltage switching mode. Its three phase voltages are decoupled partly in its power topology, therefore approximate unity power factor can be obtained with a simple control strategy. This converter has been verified by simulation results and successful application in a 5 KW switching mode power supply (SMPS). It is a good choice for a system with high power, high frequency, high reliability, low THD of the line current and high power factor. Finally, its design equations are derived from its further analysis.

Abstract:In contrast to the conventional boost power factor correction (PFC) converter, the buck PFC converter can achieve high efficiency in the entire universal input voltage range. A critical conduction mode (CRM) soft-switched buck PFC converter with constant on-time control is presented in this paper. The design methodology and criteria for zero-voltage switching range, high efficiency and low harmonics of the CRM buck ac-dc converter are achieved. A 100-W prototype built up according to the proposed design criteria shows that the input current harmonics meet the IEC61000-3-2 (Class D) standard and the efficiency is higher than 0.965 during the universal input range.
