Abstract:Ecological discourse analysis, as an emerging discipline, aims to reveal the role of language in ecology. The transitivity system serves as a theoretical foundation, which helps to explore the ecological ideas implied in ecological discourse. William Wordsworth, a British Romantic poet, is famous for his poetry depicting natural scenery. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud is a representative work of his nature poems. Based on the transitivity system of systemic functional linguistics, this paper conducts a deep analysis of Wordsworth's nature poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud from the perspective of ecological discourse analysis, exploring the basic path of the poet's expression of his ecological view through language. On the one hand, the poet regards the relationship between humans and all things in nature as a harmonious and equal dialogue partnership. He wants to advocate respect for nature, awe of nature, and oppose anthropocentrism, promoting the ecological idea of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, which reflects his positive ecological view. On the other hand, by studying Wordsworth's ecological ideas, readers can be guided to establish a healthy ecological view, enhance their sense of ecological responsibility, and promote people's love for nature and friendship with nature.

Abstract:Abstract The Southern Song poet Yang Wanli is known for his Chengzhai style, prominent features of which include humorous language, easy syntax, and nature as the source of inspiration. This article examines two characteristics of Yang's nature poems that contribute to the development of his unique style: photographic seeing and an emphasis on shanlin (mountains and forests). Yang often engages in intensive, camera-like observation and yearns for the space beyond city walls, his ideal site for both life and poetry. The author argues that Yang's efforts to create a poetic practice different from that of the late Northern Song's Jiangxi school, with its emphasis on learning and book knowledge, were only partly the result of his personal experience. The shift away from textual traditions and longing for wilderness must also be understood in the context of an emerging urban culture that began with the Tang dynasty. This cultural development provided contrast and background not only for the rise of Yang Wanli but also for the Rivers and Lakes poets of the next century.

Abstract:Translating poetry is a very complex process. The paradoxical nature of untranslatability and translatability of poetry has been noticed by Hai An (The translation of poetry by the translator-cum-poet. Chinese Translator Journals 2005; 6:27-30), citing two famous scholars who are holding totally different opinions toward poetry translation. Robert Frost purports that 'poetry is what gets lost in translation', and Susan Bassnet advocates 'poetry is what we gain in translation'. However, the common ground between these two drastic opinions is that poetry translation is no more a repetition of the original works than a reproduction. There are both similarities and discrepancies between the translated works and the original pieces, or in another word: 'harmony in diversity'. This study aims to testify the above-mentioned proposal in a clear and objective manner, by comparing the original poetry texts (twenty randomly selected poems from Shakespearean sonnets) with their translated versions (the corresponding Chinese-translated versions by four different translators) from the perspective of vocabulary, word frequency distribution and part-of-speech (POS) frequency distribution. The results have corroborated the previous proposal: first, there is no significant difference in terms of vocabulary size and the text management styles between the translated poems and the original ones. Second, there is a significant difference in the word frequency distribution and POS frequency distribution between translated poems and the original ones. Third, there are also differences in the POS frequency distribution in poems translated by different authors. Furthermore, the translation style could distinguish professional translators from professional poets.

Abstract:The landscape poetry written by Xie Lingyun can be classified into manor landscape poetry and expedition landscape poetry.What is called manor landscape poetry refers to the poems written by poets who own luxurious manors,or frequently visit and stay in the aristocratic manors.The genre of poetry focuses on the natural landscape and garden construction in manors and the poet's realization and feelings for the meaning of life and existence in the manor life.Besides manor landscape poetry,Xie Lingyun has written some landscape poems in the travel and the official place,which are called expedition landscape poetry.The paper focuses on the discussion of the characteristics and status of manor landscape poetry written by Xie Lingyun in the history of poetry.

Abstract:For Daoism, the wilderness of nature beyond human society has often been viewed as a site for eremitic retreat in spiritual solitude, a realm where an individual can transcend the limits of social existence. While this tradition flourished in the early medieval Wei-Jin period, Daoism-inspired Dark Learning thinkers of the time also explored ways in which such a realm of solitude could be attained and enjoyed without the necessity of leaving behind the mundane world, an endeavor that has clear parallels with the function of solitude in Emerson's Transcendentalism. This paper focuses on three sites where both Emerson and Dark Learning thinkers located such access to solitude: aesthetic appreciation of nature, metaphysical speculation, and authentic social relationships. In both Emerson and Dark Learning, the universal implications of metaphysical speculation provided a path by which the solitude and independence attainable in the wilderness of nature could be connected to individuals in social life, providing a foundation for ethics outside of traditional authority that led both Emerson and Dark Learning to face similar criticisms from more conservative contemporaries.

Abstract:Han Yu and Yao He were important literary master from the mid Tang Dynasty,both leaving significant heritage in the history of Chinese literature. Although researchers seldom compare them in parallel,these two masters confronted the same issue of worldliness and solitude,since both of them were civil officials rising from the landlord class.Worldlinessmeans the speculation,hustle,and glamour of office,whilesolitudefocuses on the simplicity,tranquility,and peace of retreat in mountains and woods. Troubled by these conflicting aspirations,both the two masters had experienced the inward turn from aspiring to benefit the society to maintaining individual goodness. Such a turn conveys their concern and construction of their private world,whose prominent feature is the pursuit of leisure lifestyle of civil officials where they could manage their daily life with aesthetic attitude in their private world. Their leisurely and simple life attitude and elegant,quiet aesthetics have formed one of the essential elements of Chinese aesthetics.

Abstract:Solitude referred to a state in which a person was alone and separated from others. It provided freedom to select one’s mental or physical activities. Contrast to the negative emotional experience of loneliness, solitude was a constructed state and was open to all emotional experiences. Self-reported scales and Experience Sampling Methods (ESM) were used to measured solitude. Research revealed, as the age increased, individual spent more time on solitude and had more positive attitude toward it. Evidences showed that solitude had positive effects on individuals’ mental health, creativity and enhanced self-integration. In the future, the structure of solitude required more research. Research should also pay attention to the developmental mechanism of solitude and cultural differences. The neural mechanism of solitude would be an important and valuable researching domain in the future.

Abstract:Painting and poetry are important art categories of human beings. The relationship between poetry and painting is an important theory of Chinese and Western aesthetic studies for many years. The painting poem is between poetry and painting. It is a special aesthetic phenomenon that combines literature and painting. The painting poems are produced by paintings. In the past, when studying paintings, they focused on the painter's creativity, style, inheritance and innovation. However, they studied the painting poetry between painting and literature less. Although poetry and painting are two different art disciplines, painting is a visual image to express the real things that can be felt. It depicts observability, emphasis on reproduction, reason, and realism. Poetry is a kind of real emotion expressed by words. They are mainly lyrical, pay attention to performance psychology, and have a narrative. In essence, it is more inclined to express and freehand. Although the two languages differ in form, painting is a graphic symbol and poetry is a text, but the aesthetic characteristics of the two have a distinct commonality. They all break the boundaries of time and space and achieve the unity and harmony between man and nature, and create a unique artistic conception and aesthetic pursuit.

Abstract:Can Xue is a famous female writer in Chinese contemporary literature, known as the "Kafka of Asia". Her works are loved by a worldwide audience, especially in Japan and many Western countries. Her work requires the reader's patience through experiencing different emotions and feelings in the lonely art world that she opens. It is a world whose center is the depth of self, and the “humanity” of man. And readers with different perceptions and attitudes of the post-modern era when entering that art world will certainly sympathize with the loneliness, loss, and disconnection of the characters. The loneliness appears as a constant in the lives of the characters while they cannot name their emotions to balance their own soul. Thereby, readers reflect on themselves in the real world, rebalance their bruised self, and aim to open up their soul towards Beauty and Goodness without compromising with the Bad, the Evil in the work. After the process of empathy, the lonely "self" is purified and awakened – the own worth is realized. Loneliness is an inevitable part of human nature. One should be content with the loneliness, be friends with one's "inner child", enrich one's self-worth to become a positive individual in the civilized community, to lead a healthy lifestyle of an adult in modern society.
