Abstract:This paper elaborated that the change of relation between the properity rights caused evolution of accounting theory and influence on accountant practice from the accounting angle during the development of the western economics. The author thought that the Equity Theory which must be combined with the Fund Theory can strengthen the control duty of accountant.

Abstract:Accounting frameworks follow stipulations of existing Accounting Theories. This exploratory research sets out to trace the evolution of accounting theories of Charge and Discharge Syndrome and the Corollary of Double Entry. Furthermore, it dives into the theories of Income Determination, garnishing it with areas of diversities in the use of Accounting Information while review of theories of recent growths and developments in Accounting are not left out. The method of research adopted is exploratory review of existing accounting literature. It is observed that the emergence of these theories exist to minimize fraud, errors, misappropriations and pilfering of Corporate assets. It is recommended that implementation prescriptions of these theories by International Financial Reporting Standard Committee and Practicing Accountants should be adhered to and simplified so as to avoid confusing and scandalous reporting of financial statements
Empirical Study on Accounting Conservatism and the Inefficient Investment Action under Different Natures of Property Rights

Abstract:Owing to the special system of our country, it is necessary to further research how the accounting conservatism influences the inefficient investment action of the company. On account of principal-agent theory and asymmetric infor-mation theory, this paper conducts the empirical research on the effect of the accounting conservatism’ s influences on inefficient investment behaviors under different property rights nature, based on 3303 samples of the Shanghai and Shenzhen A shares during 2008 to 2010. The research results show that the accounting conservatism inhibits over invest-ment and intensify under investment. The degree of accounting conservatism curbing over investment in state-owned enterprises is stronger than that in non-state-owned enterprises, while in non-state-owned enterprises, the probability of accounting conservatism aggravating under investment is higher than that in state-owned enterprises.

Abstract:We present a simple model of a state-owned enterprise going public in an environment with poor legal protection of outside investor on the base of Andrei Shlefer's market equilibrium. We bring Chinese equity market facts that most rights of most public company are controlled by the government or their agent into this model. After interpreting that how investor protection level increasing prompt equity market and economic growth, we analyse some problems of the Chinese economy such as higher savings rate, capital flight and selling state-owned equities of public company from this.

Abstract:There are some fundamental bifurcations in the field of corporate social responsibility between stakeholder theory and mainstream film theory. From a historical insight into the evolution of corporate social responsibility view, it is found that corporate social responsibility and the claims of stakeholders are linked together tightly. When a corporate implemented its integrative social contracts which composed of explicit contracts and implicit contracts, it must consider the claims of stakeholders and bear lots of social responsibilities actively.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the equity structure of accounting information disclosure, through which it is found that the disclosure, in essence, is a process of transmitting accounting information from the information owner to the information demandant. The forming of the right to claim for the information is closely related to business character, while the forming of the right to dominate the information depends on whether the transaction cost is minimized during the information disclosure.

Abstract:This paper exhibits the historical evolution of the balance sheet in the People's Republic of China. In particular, we examine three major changes in the balance sheet (which reports the financial position of an economic or business entity) since the founding of the new China in 1949 and the political, social and economic changes during this period. The content, structure and presentation of the balance sheet (or alternative forms of the statement in use) are illustrated. The political and economic factors driving its evolution are analyzed to assist readers in understanding the rapid changes in Chinese accounting over the last six decades. The implications of the Chinese experience for international accounting convergence are also briefly outlined.

Abstract:The existing literature on the evolution on Chinese state–owned financial institutions emphasizes the financial marketization off the old system.However,from the practice,the theories have very limited effects on institutional evolution.It is necessary for us to grope for a new theoretical paradigm for institutional change of state-owned finance.In this study,from the perspective of government's rational intervention,we put forward a more practical utility function of central government on financial institutional evolution to analyze its structure and change when the reform is at a new phase.By applying the utility function we may examine the evolution of an important aspect of financial system——the management system of credit capital,and predicts the next step of financial reform.

Abstract:Serverys on"Reconciliation statement on differences of shareholders' equity based on old and new accounting standards"in annual report 2006 of 1412 firms,the paper find that:1420 firms' shareholders' equity change by conducting new accounting standards, 62.75 percent of all firms change in the range from-10 to 10 percent;90.72 percent of all firms changed in the range from-10 to 10 percent after ignoring the effect of minority shareholders' equity.Accountings for the income tax and balance of long-term equity investment have more influence on listed companies.The conclusions are:it is smooth transition that new accounting standards are conducted firstly in Listed companies;conservative fair value measurement model is used successfully.

Abstract:Two theories coexist concerning the certainty of law.One insists on the certainty of law while the other doubts it.Based on the regression analysis of thousands of model cases from the Supreme Court,this paper empirically finds out that normative facts determined by the court can only predict 48.8 percent of the sentencing results.But the connection between legal causes and results concluded by legal theories presents some certainty,and different legal facts define the lenience and strictness of law to different degrees.Grounded on such study,the paper concludes that equity can be proved and meanwhile sets forth the proof criteria of equity and the practice project for trial supervision.

Abstract:This paper examines how conservative accounting affects the relation between accounting data and firm value. The analysis shows that conservative accounting can be characterized equivalently in terms of book value, earnings, or book rate of return. Furthermore, capitalized earnings generally provide a less biased estimate of equity value than book value does. In addition, firm growth affects the way earnings and book value are combined in valuation. A weighted average of book value and capitalized earnings, with the weight on earnings being an increasing and convex function of growth, yields an asymptotically unbiased estimate of equity value. When growth is positive, the weight on book value is negative.

Abstract:This paper studies the role of conservative accounting standards in alleviating rational yet dysfunctional unobservable earnings manipulation. We show that when accounting numbers serve both the valuation role (in which potential investors use accounting reports to assess a firm's expected future payoff) and the stewardship role (in which current shareholders rely on the same reports to monitor their risk-averse manager), current firm owners have incentives to engage in earnings management. Such manipulation reduces accounting numbers' stewardship value and leads to inferior risk sharing. We then show that risk sharing, and hence contract efficiency, can be improved under a conservative accounting standard where, absent earnings management, accounting earnings represent true economic earnings with a downward bias, compared with under an unbiased standard where, absent earnings management, accounting earnings represent true economic earnings without bias.

Abstract:We develop an evolutionary game model to reveal the theoretical basis for the assignment of property right, where both plaintiff and defendant argue for their rights by claiming their reliance investment. We allow for the possibility that the value of the total product depend not only on the investment conferred by the owner but also on the reliance investment provided by the trespasser. The resulting evolutionary stable set of preferences shows that the endowment effect hardwired to the owners and trespassers depends on the difference of productivities among both parties and the density of owners within the population.

The value relevance of equity accounting in Australia during the pre-recognition regulatory period

Abstract:For a period of 26 years, Australian reporting requirements for equity accounting were out of step with international accounting practice, requiring equity accounting to be reported in a note to the accounts and the cost method to be employed in the statutory financial statements. This paper utilises the uniqueness of the Australian regulatory setting to investigate whether equity accounting has greater value relevance than the cost method and whether it provides information incremental to the cost method during the “note disclosure period”. The results of both the valuation and returns models provide evidence that equity accounting has value relevance that is incremental to the cost method. Direct comparison of the two methods of accounting provides less conclusive evidence. Equity accounting is found to have statistically greater value relevance than the cost method for the valuation models, but not for the returns models. Differential reporting practices during the period of this study allow an extension of the study to consider two related issues. The first issue looks at the use of supplementary financial statements to report equity accounting as a signal by management of the relevance and/or reliability of equity accounted values. The results indicate that supplementary financial statements do not convey additional relevance or reliability to the market for equity accounted figures. The second extension of the study considers the effect of market value disclosure on the value relevance of equity accounting for companies with investments in publicly traded associates. The results indicate that although market value has incremental value relevance to the cost method equity, accounting has incremental value relevance to market value. © City University of Hong Kong.

Abstract:Why are there differences between financing contracts of equity and debt This paper demonstrates the deficiencies of such classical theories as differentiation of rights,policy environment,financial stress,agent costs,asset specificity,risk preference and risk sharing.We argue that difficulties or information cost for predicting future income may be the key to explain the widespread practice of equity financing.Information cost could also be the explanation of sucharrangements as contracting control rights to stockholders,creditors' priority over the equity holders in case of bankruptcy.

Abstract:This paper examines how the removal of trading restrictions and ownership structures affect earnings informativeness by investigating the changes in the earnings-return relation around China's split share structure reform. I find the reform has a negative impact on the relationship between controlling shareholders' ownership and earnings informativeness, which is consistent with the idea that the removal of trading restrictions gives controlling shareholders incentives to influence the stock price through managing earnings. I also find that earnings informativeness decreases with the reduction in controlling shareholders' ownership. This dilution effect is more significant for firms with non-state controlling shareholders or with controlling shareholders that are not monitored by other large shareholders. The results are consistent with the notion that controlling shareholders provide less informative earnings in response to the dilution of their ownership to avoid the constraints arising from the increased monitoring by outside investors.
