Abstract:In this paper, we utilize a variant of the Gruss inequality to obtain some new per- turbed trapezoid inequalities. We improve the error bound of the trapezoid rule in numerical integration in some recent known results. Also we give a new Iyengar's type inequality involv- ing a second order bounded derivative for the perturbed trapezoid inequality.

Abstract:Detailed analysis shows that the famous Iyengar inequality actually says that the Trapezoidal formula is a central algorithm for approximating integrals over an appropriate interval for the class of functions whose derivatives are bounded by a positive number K in L ∞ -sense. The inherent nonlinearity from central algorithms reflects the importance of the Iyengar inequality and thus makes familiar linear methods malfunction when one tries to generalize it. It is shown that the generalization depends on a nonlinear system of equations satisfied by a set of free nodes of a perfect spline. Explicit constructions are obtained in the spirit of the Iyengar inequality for the class of functions whose r th ( r ≤4) derivatives are bounded by a positive number K in L ∞ -sense because a closed solution to the nonlinear system is only available for r ≤4. Connections with computational mathematics, especially with best interpolation and best quadrature, are discussed. Numerical experiments are also included.

Such extensions are the best possible in the same sense as that of the Iyengar inequality. Abstract:Using the error bound results established in the present paper for approximate solutions, we study the stability issues when perturbed by possibly nonaffine smooth maps E for the abstract inequality system F >=(K) 0 defined by a (possible nonclosed) convex cone K and a Frechet differentiable function F satisfying the (extended) weak gamma-condition. We provide some sufficient conditions, in terms of the information at a solution x(0), for ensuring the lower semicontinuity and/or the Lipschitz-like continuity at x(0) of the solution mapping for the perturbed system F + E >=(K) 0 with smooth perturbation E. Explicit upper bounds of the Lipschitz-like moduli are also provided.

Abstract:The perturbations of the group inverse A# and oblique projection AA# of a square matrix A have been previously studied. Under certain assumptions on the matrix A and a perturbation matrix E, upper bounds for∥B#∥,∥BB#∥,∥B#−A#∥∥A#∥and∥BB#−AA#∥∥AA#∥,where B=A+E, are given in the literature. Recently, upper bounds for the general case have been published by Y. Wei [Appl. Math. Comp. 98 (1999) 29]. However, the special cases in the literature and the continuity of the group inverse do not follow from the general upper bounds. In this paper, we derive new general upper bounds which not only cover all the special cases but also are sharper than Wei's results such that the continuity of the group inverse directly follows. A numerical example is given to illustrate the sharpness of the new general upper bounds.

Abstract:Using the result of the error estimate of the simple extended Newton method established in the present paper for solving abstract inequality systems, we study the error bound property of approximate solutions of abstract inequality systems on Banach spaces with the involved function F being Fréchet differentiable and its derivative F^' satisfying the center-Lipschitz condition (not necessarily the Lipschitz condition) around a point x 0 . Under some mild conditions, we establish results on the existence of the solutions, and the error bound properties for approximate solutions of abstract inequality systems. Applications of these results to finite/infinite systems of inequalities/equalities on Banach spaces are presented and the error bound properties of approximate solutions of finite/infinite systems of inequalities/equalities are also established. Our results extend the corresponding results in [ 3 , 18 , 19 ].

Abstract:We present numerical results from plasma particle simulations of collisionless shocks and ultra-relativistic counter-streaming plasmas. We demonstrate how the field-particle interactions lead to particle acceleration behind the shock-front. Further, we demonstrate how ultra relativistic counter-streaming plasmas create large scale patchy magnetic field structures and that these field structures propagate down-stream of the shock front. These results may help explain the origin of the magnetic fields and accelerated electrons responsible for afterglow synchrotron radiation from gamma ray bursts.

Abstract:Convex and preinvex functions are two different concepts. Specifically, preinvex functions are generalizations of convex functions. We created some intriguing examples to demonstrate how these classes differ from one another. We showed that Godunova-Levin invex sets are always convex but the converse is not always true. In this note, we present a new class of preinvex functions called $ (\mathtt{h_1}, \mathtt{h_2}) $-Godunova-Levin preinvex functions, which is extensions of $ \mathtt{h} $-Godunova-Levin preinvex functions defined by Adem Kilicman. By using these notions, we initially developed Hermite-Hadamard and Fejér type results. Next, we used trapezoid type results to connect our inequality to the well-known numerical quadrature trapezoidal type formula for finding error bounds by limiting to standard order relations. Additionally, we use the probability density function to relate trapezoid type results for random variable error bounds. In addition to these developed results, several non-trivial examples have been provided as proofs.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the relations between trace inequalities (Sobolev and Moser-Trudinger types), isocapacitary inequalities, and the regularity of the complex Hessian and Monge-Ampère equations with respect to a general nonnegative Borel measure. We obtain a quantitative characterization for these relations through the properties of the capacity-minimizing functions.

Abstract:It is well-known that in the class of convex functions the (nonnegative) remainder of the Midpoint Rule of approximate integration is majorized by the remainder of the Trapezoid Rule. Hence the approximation of the integral of a convex function by the Midpoint Rule is better than the analogous approximation by the Trapezoid Rule. Following this fact we examine remainders of certain quadratures in classes of convex functions of higher orders. Our main results state that for 3-convex (5-convex, respectively) functions the remainder of the 2-point (3-point, respectively) Gauss–Legendre quadrature is non-negative and it is not greater than the remainder of Simpson’s Rule (4-point Lobatto quadrature, respectively). We also check 2-point Radau quadratures for 2-convex functions to demonstrate that similar results fail to hold for convex functions of even orders. We apply the Peano Kernel Theorem as a main tool of our considerations.

Abstract:We prove a new family of inequalities, which compare the integral of a geometric convolution of non-negative functions with the integrals of the original functions. For classical inf-convolution, this type of inequality is called the Prékopa-Leindler inequality, which, restricted to indicators of convex bodies, gives the classical Brunn-Minkowski inequality. The convolution we consider is a different one, which arises from the study of the polarity transform for functions. While inf-convolution arises as the pull back of usual addition of convex functions under the Legendre transform, our geometric inf-convolution arises as the pull back of the second order reversing transform on geometric convex functions (called either polarity transform or $A$-transform). These are, up to linear terms, the only order reversing isomorphisms on the class of geometric convex functions. We prove that the integral of this new geometric convolution of two functions is bounded from below by the harmonic average of the individual integrals. Our inequality implies the Brunn-Minkowski inequality, as well as some other, new, inequalities for volumes of bodies. Our inequalities are intimately connected with Busemann's convexity theorem, a new variant of which we prove for 1-convex hulls and log-concave densities.

Abstract:This note introduces a new class of preinvexity called (h1,h2)-Godunova-Levin preinvex functions that generalize earlier findings. Based on these notions, we developed Hermite-Hadamard, weighted Fejér, and trapezium type inequalities. Furthermore, we constructed some non-trivial examples in order to verify all the developed results. In addition, we discussed some applications related to the trapezoidal formula, probability density functions, special functions and special means. Lastly, we discussed the importance of order relations and left two open problems for future research. As an additional benefit, we believe that the present work can provide a strong catalyst for enhancing similar existing literature.
