Abstract:LiFePO4/C,LiFe0.95Mg0.05PO4/C and LiFe0.9Mg0.1PO4/C were synthesized via solid-state method.The discharge specific capacity and cycle performance were improved by doping Mg2+.The 0.2 C initial specific discharge capacity of LiFe0.95Mg0.05PO4 was 155 mAh/g.The discharge capacity of LiFe0.9Mg0.1PO4/C almost had no fading after 20 cycles at 10.0 C.

Abstract:LiFePO4 aggregate with diameter of 10 μm ∼15 μm was obtained by doping process and spherical processing. The interface of LiFePO4 and carbon were characterized by TEM to be relatively good. Charge and discharge profiles indicate that LiFePO4 with surface modification and Mg ion doping has larger capacity and better cycling performance than that of undoped ones. A. C impedance spectra at different cycling stage show that along with the increasing of voltage, the electrochemical impedance was decreased. Data fitted by equivalent circuit reveal that LiFePO4 with surface modification and Mg ion doping has relatively large lithium ion diffusion coefficient of 10-9cm 2s-1, and in the vicinity of working voltage, minimum values of lithium ion diffusion coefficient were obtained.

Abstract:Composition regulate and morphology control can lead to LiFePO4 cathode material with high physicochemical properties for practical applications. Herein, we report a facile solid-phase method to design and synthesize Mg-doped carbon-coated porous spherical LiFePO4/C composite with ultralow carbon content (1.6 wt%) and high tap-density (1.13 g/cm(3)). It shows that the LiFePO4/C maintains an olivine-type crystal structure with tiny amounts of Mg doping, and the cell parameters can be optimized with a Mg doping content of 0.03 (LiMg0.03Fe0.97PO4/C). In the structure of optimized LiMg0.03Fe0.97PO4/C, well-crystallized LiMg0.03Fe0.97PO4 particles with a diameter of similar to 100 nm are uniformly covered by a carbon layer of similar to 3 nm to form primary LiMg0.03Fe0.97PO4/C, which are assembled into standard spherical-shaped secondary particles with a diameter of few microns to tens of microns. Benefiting from the contributions of morphology controlling, Mg doping and carbon coating, LiMg0.03Fe0.97PO4/C manifests excellent rate and cycle performance, which exhibits capacities of 158, 145 and 105 mA h g(-1) at 0.2C, 1C and 10C, respectively, as well as a capacity attenuation rate of 0.02% per cycle during 1000 cycles at a high rate of 10C.
Improving the Electrochemical Performance of Lifepo4/C by Doping Magnesium Trisilicate

Abstract:This work studies the effect of doping with magnesium trisilicate for LiFePO4/C cathode materials by a solid-state method. The samples were synthesized by two-step processing. Firstly, it was heated at 360 degrees C for 10 hours and then was calcined at 700 degrees C for 10 hours. All the annealing processing was carried out in argon atmosphere. The phase structure, morphology and element distribution of prepared samples were characterized by XRD and scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive spectrometer. The results show that Mg2+ and Si4+ co-doped LiFe0.99Mg0.01P0.985Si0.015O4/C cathode materials exhibit higher capacity and rate capability than the unsubstituted LiFePO4/C cathode. For example, LiFe0.99Mg0.01P0.985Si0.015O4/C exhibit discharge capacity of 146 mAh.g(-1) compared to 140mAh.g(-1) for unsubstituted LiFePO4/C at 0.5C. Especially, at 5C rate, the discharge capacity of LiFe0.99Mg0.01P0.985Si0.015O4/C was remarkably exceeded that of unsubstituted LiFePO4/C cathode materials. The better performances of the cathode were attributed to the increase of electronic conductivity and the improved migration of lithium ion.
The prepared and electrochemical property of Mg-doped LiMn0.6Fe0.4PO4/C as cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries

Abstract:Driven by the demand for high-performance lithium-ion batteries, improving the energy density and high rate discharge performance is the key goal of current battery research. Here, Mg-doped LiMn0.6Fe0.4PO4 (LMFP) cathode materials are synthesized by the solid-phase method. The effects of different doping amounts of Mg on the microstructure and electrochemical properties of LMFP materials were studied. The results show that Mg is successfully doped into LMFP to reduce the lattice volume. Large doping of Mg will distort the lattice. LiMn0.6Fe0.39Mg0.01PO4/C has the best electrochemical performance, with a discharge capacity of 159.6 mAh g−1 at 0.2 C and 124.5 mAh g−1 even at 10 C. EIS shows that the electrochemical impedance of the sample is significantly reduced and the diffusion coefficient of lithium-ion is increased after the doping of proper amount of Mg. The successful synthesis of the material provides a reference for the preparation of high rate discharge cathode materials.

Abstract:Stoichiometric Mg-doped Li2MnSiO4 cathode material was synthesized by a sol-gels process with magnesium acetate de-hydrate as a dopant and sucrose as carbon-coating materials and subsequent high temperature treatment in an inert atmosphere.The effect of Mg2+ doping on the physical and electrochemical properties of the as-prepared cathode materials was investigated.AC im-pedance spectra and cycle voltammagram results showed that the carbon coating and low concentration Mg2+ doping do not destroy the structure of Li2MnSiO4,but enhance the electron conductivity during the electron translation procedure.Moreover,the cycle per-formance was improved.At a discharging rate of 0.1C,the reversible specific capacities of the Mg-doped lithium magnesium silicate and the un-doped Li2MnSiO4 were 289 and 248 mA·h/g,respectively.After 20 cycles,the capacities were 155 and 122 mA·h/g,re-spectively.By Mg ions doping,Li2MnSiO4 exhibited a more stable cycle performance than that of Li2MnSiO4/C cathode material.
Influence Mechanism of Mg 2+ Doping on Electrochemical Properties of LiFePO 4 Cathode Materials

Abstract:For this work, a Mg2+-doped LiFePO4 (LFP) cathode material was prepared using a solid-state method with Mg(CH3COO)2 as the Mg2+ dopant. X-ray diffraction and refinement data suggested that an appropriate doping amount of Mg2+ can reduce the cell volume of LFP, shorten the Fe–O and P–O bonds, and elongate the Li–O bond, thereby facilitating the diffusion of Li+. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy test results revealed that Mg2+ doping prevents the formation of Li–Fe antisite defects while also promoting the formation of Fe2P, thereby improving the electronic conductivity of the LFP. The electronic conductivity was measured using a four-probe teste, and the Li+ diffusion rate was fitted and calculated according to the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy test results. The results found that electron conductivity expanded by 275 times and the Li+ diffusion coefficient increased by 3.6 times following LFP being doped with Mg2+. Charge/discharge curves and cyclic voltammetry test reveal that LFP with Mg2+ doping has superior reversibility, rate performance, and cycle stability, and the capacity can be maintained at 162 mA h g–1 following 300 cycles at 0.1 C.

Abstract:Mg-doped LiMn1-xMgxPO4/C (x = 0, 0.01, 0.03 and 0.05) compounds were synthesised using a ball-milling-assisted solid-state reaction. The influence of the Mg-doping on the structure, morphology and electrochemical performance of LiMnPO4 were systematically investigated. The XRD results demonstrated that the obtained LiMn1-xMgxPO4/C products possess a single olivine-type structure. Particularly, the desired LiMn1-xMgxPO4/C compounds exhibited the enhanced specific capacity and cycling performance over the undoped LiMnPO4/C. An initial capacity of 131.1 mAh/g was achieved for the LiMn0.97Mg0.03PO4/C composite, and it retained 116.9 mAh/g over 30 cycles at a charge-discharge rate of 0.05 C. It can be expected that the Mg-doped LiMnPO4/C is a kind of promising cathode materials for high-performance lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract:Li-ion battery cathode material lithium iron(Ⅱ) phosphate (LiFePO_4) was synthesized by calcining the precursor prepared by high energy ball milling. Charge-discharge test and XRD diffraction analysis were applied to test its performance. The results showed that active material had 3.45 V(vs.Li/Li~+) discharge flat voltage. The electrochemical characterizations of LiFePO_4 and Mg-doped LiFePO_4 in the same technical conditions were measured. The addition of small numbers of Mg~(2+) had no effect on the structure of lithium iron phosphate while the cathode material showed better electrochemical performance.

Abstract:Mg-doped Li2FeSiO4/C is synthesized by using Fe2O3 nanoparticle as iron source. Through Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction data, it is confirmed that Mg-doped Li2FeSiO4 owns monoclinic P2(1)/n structure and Mg occupies in Fe site in the lattice. Through energy dispersive X-ray measurement, it is detected that Mg element is distributed homogenously in the resulting product. The results of transmission electron microscopy measurement reveal that the effect of Mg-doping on Li2FeSiO4 crystallite size is not obvious. As a cathode material for lithium-ion battery, this Mg-doped Li2FeSiO4/C delivers high discharge capacity of 190 mAh g(-1) (the capacity was with respect to the mass of Li2FeSiO4) at 0.1C and its capacity retention of 100 charge-discharge cycles reaches 96% at 0.1C. By the analysis of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, it is concluded that Mg-doping can help to decrease the charge-transfer resistance and increase the Li+ diffusion capability. Abstract:Element doping is one of the most efficient strategies to boost the stability and performance of LiNiO2-based materials, to obtain a thorough understanding of the role of element doping. Particularly, the synergistic effect of the co-doped elements will be crucial for the design of the materials. Herein, we synthesize a series of Mg incorporated LiNiO2 with a fixed Mn-doping content to better understand the synergistic effect of Mg co -doping. It is demonstrated that the incorporation of the Mg2+ ions in the Li slabs leads to suppression of the Li+/Ni2+ mixing and decreases the crystal lattice volume change during lithiation/delithiation processes. Therefore, the electrochemical stability of the material can be further enhanced, in addition to the stabilization effect of Mn-doping. The capacity retention of LiNiO(2 )doped with 4 mol% Mn and 0.3 mol% Mg (LiNi(0.957)Mn(0.04)Mg(0.003)O2) is 88.26 % after 200 cycles at 0.5C. This is also highlighted by the improved capacity retention at 4.6 V upper cutoff voltage. Moreover, due to the "pillar effect " of the co-doped Mg2+ ions in the Li slabs, the material exhibits superior rate capability. The findings may be beneficial for the development of Co-free nickel-rich materials for the lithium-ion batteries.
Influence of Mg Ion Doping on the Battery Properties of Lifepo4/C

Abstract:LiFePO4/C doped by Mg ion was obtained by solid phase reaction synthesis route with PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) coating processing. Conduction properties at different temperatures and resistivity change at different dopant contents indicate that conduction mechanism of LiFePO4 will change from n type to p type along with the increasing of doping content. Crystallization of LiFePO4/C with the dopant content of 0.3% (x) at different synthesis temperatures was characterized. For the sample synthesized at 973 K, the particles with a diameter of several hundred nanometers together with carbon decomposed by PVA formed secondary particles with a diameter of 10 micrometer. Along with curves of cyclic voltammetry, two shoulder-peaks showed that another way for lithium ion extraction/ insertion in cathode existed. When batteries were cycled at a rate of 0.1 C, the charge and discharge curves showed flat work voltages and large capacities. When the charge-discharge rate was increased to 0.5 C, LiFePO4 covered by carbon and doped by Mg ion showed capacity of more than 120 mA center dot h center dot g(-1). After 100 cycles, the capacity fade was neglectable.
Research on Transport of Charge Carriers in LiFe_(1-x)Mg_xPO_4/C

Abstract:LiFe1-xMgxPO4/C composite cathode material was synthesized via a solution route using Mg2+ as dopant ions and polyethylene glycol 400(PEG 400) as carbon source.The crystal structure,morphology,transport of charge carriers of the LiFe1-xMgxPO4/C were analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD),field-emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM),electrochemical independence spectroscopy(EIS) and etc.The effects of the amount of doping carbon and Mg2+ on electronic conductivity and Li+ ionic diffusibility of the cathode materials were investigated.The results indicate that doping carbon can drastically improve the electronic conductivity,and the C-doped material is 7 orders of magnitude higher than that of the undoped material.Mg2+ doping can ameliorate the diffusibility of Li+ ions and improve the ionic conductivity.Impendence Rct of the 10%Mg-doped material is 74 W,while that of the undoped material is 190 W.

Abstract:Increasing the intrinsic conductivity of LiFePO 4 can improve its electrochemical performance. Solving this problem can be achieved by P-site doping of LiFePO 4 powder. Here, B-Mg co-doped LiFePO 4 is successfully synthesized by solvothermal methods. The physical and electrochemical properties of all samples are systematically characterized with various characterization methods. In particular, proper B ion doping is determined to be beneficial to electronic conductivity, which induces the rearrangement of the PO 4 3+ electron cloud. Also, doping with Mg can balance the problems of oxygen vacancies caused by doping B, thereby smoothing the transmission path of lithium ions, resulting in enhanced electrochemical performance. Moreover, XRD and SEM results illustrated that co-doping B and Mg do not change the LiFePO 4 structure but promote the formation of a uniform and small particle. Compared with other samples, LiFeMg 0.02 P 0.98 B 0.02 O 4 demonstrates superior electrochemical performance, which showed a specific discharge capacity of 147.4 mAh g −1 at 1 C and a corresponding capacity retention rate of 98.6% after 100 cycles. Even at 10 C, the discharge capacity still maintains 114.9 mAh g −1 . The results of this work indicate that enhancing electronic conductivity and balancing oxygen vacancy are attributed to high electrochemical performance.

Abstract:Exotic metal (EM) doping in LiFePO4 materials could mitigate their poor electronic conductivity and electrochemical performance. This effect is believed to be dependent on the EM dwelling site, which has yet been well clarified due to experimental difficulty. Herein, we report on Mg-doped LiFePO4 samples with dopant in two distinct sites, namely the Li1−2xMgxFePO4 and LiFe1−xMgxPO4, using a specially designed two-step reaction. The conductivity and electrochemical test results are a clear indication that the performance of the doped LiFePO4 samples is highly Mg site dependent, consistent with theoretical analysis.
Mg-doping and electrochemical properties of Li (Ni1/3Co1/3Mn1/3) O2cathode material

Abstract:Hydroxide coprecipitation method was used to dope Mg to the precursor to improve the cycle performance of LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 cathode materials.The cathode materials were synthesized by mixing the precursor with lithium salt,ball milling and high temperature calcination.The doped and undoped cathode materials were compared by SEM,XRD and electrochemical Testing respectively.The results showed that both the doped and undoped cathode materials were standard α-NaFeO2 layered structures with no obvious changes in particle sizes.The initial specific discharge capacity were 138.2 and 145.3 mAh/g for the cathode materials doped with 0.03 Mg and the undoped cathode materials.The specific discharge capacities were 131.1 and 119.5mAh/g separately after 50 cycles.The results indicated the cycle performance increased notably after doping Mg though the initial specific discharge capacity decreased slightly.

Abstract:The main work of this paper is to use the traditional high-temperature solid-state synthesis method to synthesize lithium manganese spinel cathode material and modify it by doping under optimized process parameters to improve its cycle performance. The doping of Mg2+ reduces the content of Mn3+ in the material. The material with Mg doping has higher structural stability and inhibits the Jahn-Teller and reduces the dissolution of Mn. LiMgxMn2−xO4 (x = 0, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08) was synthesized by the traditional high-temperature solid-state method. The crystal structure and morphology of the synthesized powders were characterized by XRD, SEM, and FT-IR, respectively. The electrochemical performance of the battery was tested by CV, EIS, and long-term cycling. Among them, LiMg0.04Mn1.96O4 had the best cycling performance, the first discharge capacity of the material was 113.5 mAh·g−1. When it was cycled to 500 cycles at 0.1 C, still had the capacity of 92 mAh·g−1 with a capacity retention rate of 81.05%.

Electrochemical Performance of LiMnPO4 by Fe and Zn Co-Doping for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Abstract:To study the effect of Fe and/or Zn doping on the performance of LiMnPO4, LiMn0.9Fe0.1-x Zn (x) PO4/C (x = 0, 0.05, and 0.1) composites were synthesized by a solid-state process. They are all single phase with olivine structure but LiMn0.9(FeZn)(0.05)PO4/C reveals a different morphology. The Fe-Zn co-doping remarkably enhances the performance of LiMnPO4 due to the presence of Fe and Zn in olivine framework resulting in the decrease of charge transfer resistance and Mn ion dissolution. Compared with LiMn0.9Fe0.1PO4/C and LiMn0.9Zn0.1PO4/C, LiMn0.9(FeZn)(0.05)PO4/C exhibits much higher discharge capacity and better rate capability. It delivers the capacities of 151.3 mAh g(-1) at 0.1 C and 128.4 mAh g(-1) at 1 C and retains 96.7 % of the initial capacity after 100 cycles.

Abstract:Mg and Ti ions co-doped (Li0.98Mg0.01)(Fe0.98Ti0.01)PO4/C cathode material for lithium-ion batteries was prepared by a solid-state method under N-2 atmosphere. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and galvanostatic charge-discharge test. Results indicated that Mg and Ti ions co-doping remarkably improved the electrochemical performance of LiFePO4, including rate capacity, temperature behavior, and cycling stability. Discharge capacities of 154.7 and 146.9 mAh.g(-1) were obtained at the rates of 0.2C and 1C for half-cell tests, respectively. For 60 Ah full-cell tests, 100% of 1C capacity was maintained even at 3C rate, 89.7% and 63.1% of initial capacity at room temperature were retained at 0 and -20 degrees C, respectively. 89% capacity retention remained after 2000 cycles at room temperature, presenting excellent cycle stability. This investigation suggests that the present co-doping material and the resulting battery possess large discharge capacity and excellent cycling performance, making it applicable in electric vehicle (EV)/hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and energy storage systems on a large scale.
Insight into structural and electrochemical properties of Mg‐doped LiMnPO4/C cathode materials with first‐principles calculation and experimental verification

Abstract:The LiMnPO4 material has the advantages of abundant raw materials, safety and environmental protection, low price, high theoretical capacity, high stable working voltage platform and so on, showing great potential in lithium‐ion batteries. Dissimilar metal ion doping can essentially improve the electronic conductivity of LiMnPO4 and the material's charge and discharge performance, which is an ideal method to improve the electrochemical performance of LiMnPO4. In this paper, the optimal doping concentration of Mg‐doped solid solution material was calculated by first principles. At the same time, the corresponding content of LiMn1−xMgxPO4/C cathode material was synthesized by hydrothermal method for experimental verification, so as to prepare the cathode material with excellent electrochemical performance. The results show that the doping of Mg cations does not change the phase of the main phase, but significantly changes the crystal structure parameters. The regulation of the band width directly affects the electronic conductivity of the material, which is directly proportional to the electrochemical performance. EIS and CV test results show that a proper amount of magnesium doping can effectively reduce the impedance of the material, and can effectively alleviate the polarization phenomenon of LiMnPO4 electrode material, accelerate the diffusion rate of Li+, and it is easier to obtain high capacity battery. LiMn23/24Mg1/24PO4/C showed the best electrochemical performance, with an initial capacity of 153.8 mAh/g at 0.05C ratio and a capacity retention rate of 97.5% after 100 cycles at 0.05C ratio. The theoretical calculation is in good agreement with the experimental results, which indicates that the theoretical calculation based on first principles can effectively provide a more reliable theoretical basis for experimental design and subsequent improvement.
