Abstract:Five new triterpenoid monodesmosides (sinocrassulosides I-V, 1-5) and six bisdesmosides (sinocrassulosides VI-XI, 6-11), in which 2-11 possess different acyl groups in the glycosidic moieties, were isolated from the roots of Sinocrassula asclepiadea FRANCH. Sinocrassulosides VI (4) and V (5) also contained a novel A-seco aglycone in their structures. All of the structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic and physicochemical evidence.

Abstract:Seven new triterpenoid saponins (1-7), have been isolated and elucidated from the roots of Gypsophila oldhamiana together with five known triterpenoid saponins (8-12). These saponins which could be classified into three series: 3-O-monoglucosides (1, 8, 9), 28-O-monoglucosides (24, 12) and 3, 28-O-bidesmosides (5-7, 10, 11), have been evaluated for their a-glucosidase inhibition activity. As a result, the preliminary structure-activity relationships were discussed based on the position of sugar linkage attached to the aglycone, and 28-O-monoglucosides 2-4 and 12 showed significant inhibitory activities on a-glucosidase. Abstract:From methanol extracts of the whole plants of Anemone tetrasepala Royle, a new triterpenoid saponin, named tetrasepaloside (1), along with oleanolic acid 3-O-alpha -gluccopyranosyl (1 -->2)-alpha -arabinoside (2), HN-saponin F (3), pulsatiloside C (4), akebia saponin D (5), cauloside D (6), ciwujianoside A(1)(7) and cauloside F (8), was isolated. By means of chemical degradation and spectral analysis, including 2D-NMR spectroscopic methods (H-1-(HCOSY)-H-1, HMBC and HMQC), the structure of 1 was elucidated as 23-O-(2 ' ,3 ' -monoacetonide)-alpha -ribofuranosyl-hederagenin-28-O-alpha -rhamnopyranosyl( 1 -->4)-beta -glucopyranosyl( 1 -->6)-beta -gulcopyranoside. All these compounds were reported for the first time from this plant.

Abstract:Three new polyacetylenic oleanane-type triterpenoids, baisanqisaponins A-C (1-3), and one new oleanane-type triterpenoid, chikusetsusaponin-V ethyl ester (4), together with 19 known compounds (5-23), were isolated from the roots of Panax japonicus. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses and chemical methods. Compounds 1-3 feature a rare panaxytriol group containing a polyacetylene on the saponin skeleton. Neuroprotective activity was evaluated for compounds 1-17, and angiotensin II-induced vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation inhibition was tested for compounds 5-7 and 10-12.

Abstract:Two new oleanane-type triterpenoid saponins, kakkasaponin II (1) and kakkasaponin III (2), were isolated from the methanol extract of the flowers of Pueraria thomsonii (Leguminosae), together with seven known oleanane-type triterpenoid saponins, phaseoside IV (3), sophoradiol monoglucuronide (4), kakkasaponin I (5), kaikasaponin III (6), soyasaponin I (7), soyasaponin III (8), and soyasaponin IV (9). The structures of 1 and 2 were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including IR, ESI-TOF-MS, and 1D and 2D NMR experiments.
