Abstract:Examination of the protologues of Viburnum henryi, V. brachybotryum var. tengyuehense, V. theiferum and V. ternatum revealed that at least two gatherings were mentioned as types for every one of them, making it necessary to designate a lectotype for each of the 4 names.

Abstract:Summary Zingiber (Zingiberaceae: Zingibereae) is an economically important but taxonomically difficult genus, with names frequently misapplied. Here, we thoroughly review all names corresponding to the currently recognised 54 species from China including their synonyms, and clarify the status of their types. Lectotypes are designated for 40 names (including one second‐step), neotypes for 3 names, and epitypes for 3 names. Additional and often uncited isotypes have been discovered for numerous names, and such additional records are here provided. Tupistra bambusifolia var. rubromaculosa, Z. simaoense, Z. confine and Z. larsenii are newly treated as synonyms of Z. atrorubens, Z. densissimum, Z. officinale and Z. recurvatum respectively. A new combination, Z. bambusifolium, is proposed, based on Tupistra bambusifolia. This study will form the nomenclatural basis of an ongoing taxonomic revision of the genus in China, and phylogenetic study of the genus.

Abstract:The critical observations of living plants in the field, along with the examination of type specimens and protologues, led us to conclude that the key characteristics, including the length of the petiole, stipules and peduncles, as well as the shape of leaves of Viburnum fengyangshanense, all fall within the variation range of V. erosum. Additionally, molecular analysis of nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) and three plastid DNA markers (rbcL, matK and ndhF) indicates that V. fengyangshanense and V. erosum are deeply nested within a clade. Therefore, based on morphological and molecular evidence, it is demonstrated that V. fengyangshanense should be regarded as a new synonym of V. erosum.

Abstract:In the present study, we designate lectotypes and epitypes for fourteen names (for accepted names/basionyms/synonyms) of three genera Ammannia, Lagerstroemia, and Rotala of family Lythraceae, to facilitate the correct application of these names. Lectotypes are designated for three names in Ammannia, three names in Rotala, and four names in Lagerstroemia. Second-step lectotype are designated for two names in Rotala and one name in each Ammannia and Lagerstroemia. Further, an epitype for the name Rotala floribunda is assigned.

Abstract:The article typified thirteen names of Chinese poplars which published by Zhao Tian-Bang or together with his cooperator in 1978 and 1980. By examining specimens preserved at PE, KUN, WUK, CAF, and HEAC, communication with Zhao Tian-Bang, we found that the original materials of Populus honanensis, P. funiushanensis, P. celtidifolia, P. davidiana var. lyshehensis, P. adenopoda var. nanchaoensis, P. adenopoda var. rotundifolia, P. hopeiensis var. ovatifolia, P. hopeiensis var. flavida, P. sunghoensis, P. davidiana var. longipetiolata, P. yunsiaoshanensis, and P. adenopoda var. microphylla were lost, and there was only one illustration left for P. tomentosa var. rotundifolia. According to the protologues, our fieldwork in the type localities and Zhao Tian-Bang’s identification, neotypes were designated for twelve taxa. An illustration was selected as the lectotype of P. tomentosa var. rotundifolia.

Abstract:Thirteen compounds including four terpenes ( 1 – 4 ), six aromatic compounds ( 5 – 10 ), and three flavonoids ( 11 – 13 ) were isolated from Viburnum chingii . The structures of these compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods and comparison with literature data. Among them, 1 – 11 and 13 were isolated from Adoxaceae family for the first time. A network of compounds-families was built, and the chemotaxonomic relevance of these compounds was discussed. The results showed that the Rosaceae and Asteraceae had a close relationship with Adoxaceae family. The research clarified the chemotaxonomic significance, and it accordingly contributed to further knowledge of the chemical diversity of Adoxaceae family.

Abstract:Pavonia is represented by 270 species concentrated in South America. Among these representatives, names grouped in the subgenus Pavonia exhibited nomenclatural and typification problems, especially within the section Lopimia . The nomenclatural issues discussed in this work were observed during the taxonomic revision process of Pavonia section Lopimia . In this context, the aim of this study was to correctly associate names with their respective types and indicate lectotypes and neotypes when necessary. This study presents two neotypifications and 10 lectotypifications.

Abstract:A lectotype is designated for the name of the iconic and well‐known macrolichen Ramalina menziesii Taylor from among a suite of largely overlooked syntypes deposited in the Thomas Taylor Herbarium at the Farlow Herbarium, Harvard University. Lectotypes are also selected for the synonyms of R. menziesii: Chlorodictyon foliosum, Ramalina reticulata (≡ Lichen reticulatus Noehd., nom. illeg.) and R. retiformis. The place of publication of L. reticulatus Noehd. is discussed in detail. The case highlights the surprising degree to which the application of names for taxa that have been extensively studied and are widely known outside a narrow specialist field, can remain unresolved.

Abstract:This paper deals with typification of three species names in Isoetes described from France: the lectotype previously designated for I. delalandei J.Lloyd is here superseded by another lectotype according to new evidence, and lectotypes are designated for I. echinospora Durieu and I. tenuissima Boreau. Selected specimens are preserved at ANG for I. delalandei, and at P for the two others. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images of the spores, known to provide important routine characters in Isoetes, were acquired from the types, and information about the loci classici are provided. Isoetes echinospora and I. tenuissima have currently disappeared from their loci classici.

Abstract:Recent phylogenetic analyses have revealed that Chrysanthemum vestitum var. latifolium and C. vestitum var. vestitum were placed in different clades based on their chloroplast genomes and nuclear LFAFY gene sequences. Accordingly, based on previous morphological analysis, molecular phylogenetic results, fieldwork, and herbarium studies, Chrysanthemum vestitum var. latifolium should be raised to the species level. Considering the condition of the material found and Articles 6.9, 6.11, 41.2, 58.1 of the International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi, and Plants (Shenzhen Code) that is currently in force, Chrysanthemum dabieshanense Z.X.Fu, A.G.Zhen, & Y.P.Ma, nom. nov. is proposed as the new name for Chrysanthemum vestitum var. latifolium J.Zhou & Jun Y.Chen. The detailed emended description, distribution map, insights into its habitat, and an updated comparative morphological study are presented in this study.

Abstract:As part of an ongoing taxonomic study of the genus Deyeuxia, typifications for 12 names belonging to subtribe Agrostidinae from South America are presented here. A neotype for Bromidium rigescens var. brevifolium is herein designated. Eleven names belonging to the genera Agrostis , Calamagrostis, and Deyeuxia are lectotypified. Epitypes for Calamagrostis heterophylla var. robustior and Deyeuxia velutina are designated.

Abstract:The genus Polygonatum Miller (1754: without page) consists of perennial herbs, distributed in the temperate Northern hemisphere (POWO 2024). It is well appreciated in East Asia for its wide array of commercial uses and the species diversity (Kim et al. 2014, Floden 2017). Despite the increased recognition of its value as a natural resource, knowledge of the taxonomy and phylogenetic relationship among congeners has been lacking (Floden 2014, Chao & Tseng 2019). There are unresolved nomenclatural problems (Floden & Schilling 2018), in Polygonatum, around 340 binomials for 76 accepted species (IPNI 2024, POWO 2024, WFO 2024) have been published since Miller (1754), hence often the taxonomic identity of the many species is not straightforward and always in the flux.

Abstract:Based on extensive studies of specimens in various herbaria, lectotypes are designated for many taxa of holoparasitic Orobanchaceae. In total, 31 names in the genera Alectra, Boschniakia, Cistanche, Orobanche, Phelipanche and Phelypaea are lectotypified and type references are provided for 46 names. All types are illustrated by scanned images. The following new names are proposed due to rank changes: Orobanche amoena var. dzejveri, O. amoena var. regeliana, Orobanche camptolepis f. sideana, Orobanche lutea var. hians, Phelipanche arenaria var. sareptana, Phelipanche caesia var. acuminata, Phelipanche caucasica, Phelipanche lavandulacea var. serratocalyx, Phelipanche pulchella var. bungeana, Phelipanche purpurea var. hirsuta and Phelipanche purpurea var. iberica. The following names are synonymized: Orobanche arenaria f. personata, Orobanche borkhausenii, Orobanche caesia f. tomentosa, Orobanche caryophyllacea f. besseri, Orobanche cernua f. subgrandis, Orobanche cumana f. helianthi, Orobanche eriophora, Orobanche glaucantha, Orobanche heyniae, Orobanche psilostemon, Orobanche sideritidis and Phelypaea helenae.

Abstract:The names Coccoloba caracasana , C. caracasana f. glabra , C. cozumelensis , C. floribunda , C. humboldtii var . longipedicellata , and Campderia mexicana are lectotypified, and seventeen specimens with mature fruits are proposed as epitypes to facilitate the recognition and delimitation of Coccoloba species distributed in Mexico and Central America. The presence of fruits in these specimens allowed us to recognize and reinstate the names Coccoloba lapathifolia , C. euvelutina , and C. matudae .

Abstract:Bridelia fordii, originally described from China in 1894, often treated as a synonym of B. retusa. Upon examinating the types and other related specimens, we conclude that the former is easily distinguishable from the latter and the former should be accepted as an independent species. Our previous molecular evidence also supports this conclusion. We further designate the lectotype of B. fordii in this study.

Abstract:Cynanchumthesioides, a species widely distributed in north-eastern Asia, is revised to include two new synonyms: Vincetoxicumsibiricumf.linearifolium, described from Shandong, China in 1877, but long neglected and Cynanchumgobicum, previously believed to be endemic to Mongolia. Typification for C.thesioides and all its synonyms is given, including lectotypification of V.sibiricumvar.australe and V.sibiricumf.linearifolium. An updated description, three figures showing the diverse habitats, habits and variation in morphological characters, and a general distribution map are also provided.
