Abstract:In the present study, we designate lectotypes and epitypes for fourteen names (for accepted names/basionyms/synonyms) of three genera Ammannia, Lagerstroemia, and Rotala of family Lythraceae, to facilitate the correct application of these names. Lectotypes are designated for three names in Ammannia, three names in Rotala, and four names in Lagerstroemia. Second-step lectotype are designated for two names in Rotala and one name in each Ammannia and Lagerstroemia. Further, an epitype for the name Rotala floribunda is assigned.

Abstract:The genus Polygonatum Miller (1754: without page) consists of perennial herbs, distributed in the temperate Northern hemisphere (POWO 2024). It is well appreciated in East Asia for its wide array of commercial uses and the species diversity (Kim et al. 2014, Floden 2017). Despite the increased recognition of its value as a natural resource, knowledge of the taxonomy and phylogenetic relationship among congeners has been lacking (Floden 2014, Chao & Tseng 2019). There are unresolved nomenclatural problems (Floden & Schilling 2018), in Polygonatum, around 340 binomials for 76 accepted species (IPNI 2024, POWO 2024, WFO 2024) have been published since Miller (1754), hence often the taxonomic identity of the many species is not straightforward and always in the flux.

Abstract:Although the majority of Linnaean Potentilla names (Rosaceae) have been already typified, the type of P. acaulis L. remains uncertain. All material related to P. acaulis were traced in herbaria LINN and PR, and their origin and time of inclusion into Linnaeus’ herbarium are discussed. A lectotype is selected from the original material examined by Linnaeus and now deposited in PR. The change in species concept in later Linnaean works and its importance for interpretation of the extant herbarium material related to the name is also discussed.

Abstract:A lectotype is designated for the name of the iconic and well‐known macrolichen Ramalina menziesii Taylor from among a suite of largely overlooked syntypes deposited in the Thomas Taylor Herbarium at the Farlow Herbarium, Harvard University. Lectotypes are also selected for the synonyms of R. menziesii: Chlorodictyon foliosum, Ramalina reticulata (≡ Lichen reticulatus Noehd., nom. illeg.) and R. retiformis. The place of publication of L. reticulatus Noehd. is discussed in detail. The case highlights the surprising degree to which the application of names for taxa that have been extensively studied and are widely known outside a narrow specialist field, can remain unresolved.

Abstract:Croton palustris (≡ Caperonia palustris) and Croton castaneifolius (≡ Caperonia castaneifolia) were published by Linnaeus in the first edition of Species plantarum. Both names remain untypified at present. While syntypes are extant for C. palustris there is no known original material for C. castaneifolius. Here, a lectotype is selected for C. palustris and a neotype is selected for C. castaneifolius.

Abstract:Pavonia is represented by 270 species concentrated in South America. Among these representatives, names grouped in the subgenus Pavonia exhibited nomenclatural and typification problems, especially within the section Lopimia . The nomenclatural issues discussed in this work were observed during the taxonomic revision process of Pavonia section Lopimia . In this context, the aim of this study was to correctly associate names with their respective types and indicate lectotypes and neotypes when necessary. This study presents two neotypifications and 10 lectotypifications.

Abstract:The typification of the Linnaean name Arum peregrinum, validly published in the first edition of Species plantarum, is discussed. In the absence of original material useful for lectotypification, a study of the various pre‐Linnaean works linked to this name, as well as an in‐depth analysis of literature, was necessary to understand its concept and designate a neotype. Tabula XXXVI in Plumier's Plantarum Americanarum, which was cited by Linnaeus in the tenth edition of Systema naturae under Arum peregrinum, is selected as neotype. Based on the typification, Arum peregrinum is synonymized with Alocasia macrorrhizos.

As the author has seen this material only online, closer examination is required, but it is probably an appropriate specimen to serve as lectotype for C. couguiense Besch., replacing the neotype previously designated by Ellis ( Citation 2002 ).

Abstract:The typification of the currently accepted names of 14 pteridophytes, i.e., ferns and lycophytes, which are definitely endemic to São Tomé and Príncipe, is reviewed. Lectotypes are designated for a number of names and previous typifications are reassessed and corrected, if needed. The types of the names of three further pteridophytes, one endemic to the Gulf of Guinea and two widespread ones, are also discussed.

Abstract:Phyllanthus claussenii is one of the most frequently mentioned species of Phyllanthus sect. Phyllanthus subsect. Clausseniani in various studies. However, it is often mistaken for P. subemarginatus in most collections. In the present work, we present a clarification of the identity and geographic distribution of P. claussenii and the typification of Phyllanthus acuminatus and Savia sessiliflora. The proposal of lectotypes for P. acuminatus and S. sessiliflora will enable the accurate identification of the species and avoid potential ambiguity. To achieve this, protologues and type specimens, including digital images, were analyzed, along with specimens from collections of national and international herbaria.

Abstract:This paper deals with typification of three species names in Isoetes described from France: the lectotype previously designated for I. delalandei J.Lloyd is here superseded by another lectotype according to new evidence, and lectotypes are designated for I. echinospora Durieu and I. tenuissima Boreau. Selected specimens are preserved at ANG for I. delalandei, and at P for the two others. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images of the spores, known to provide important routine characters in Isoetes, were acquired from the types, and information about the loci classici are provided. Isoetes echinospora and I. tenuissima have currently disappeared from their loci classici.

Abstract:The typification of the Linnaean name Crepis vesicaria (Compositae: Cichorieae) is revised. This name had previously been "lectotypified" by Babcock in 1947 on a specimen kept in LINN (Herb. Linnaeus No. 955.3). However, Linnaeus cited in the protologue a specimen from the Joachim Burser Herbarium, currently preserved at UPS‐BURSER (Herb. Burser VI: 70). According to the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (Art. 9.12 of the Shenzhen Code of 2018), this is a syntype which must be chosen as the lectotype.

Abstract:During studies of Piperaceae in Northeastern Brazil, we found names lacking designated type material, among them Piper consanguineum. We revised the synonyms, protologues and bibliographies where names have been cited. A neotype has been designated for Piper consanguineum (Kunth) Steud., as well as a lectotype for Piper surinamense C. DC., which also had a syntype excluded from its name.

Abstract:We present updated type information on the Tasmanian species of ferns and lycophytes described by Labillardière in his Novae Hollandiae plantarum specimen of 1806. Among the 13 names introduced, we list a total of 80 specimens with type status (13 lectotypes and 67 isolectotypes), mainly from FI, which houses Labillardière's herbarium (and the main set of plants) in FI‐W, but also from B (including B‐W), BM, F, G, GH, K, L, LE, MEL, P (including P‐JU), PRC, RB, and WAG. Another nine specimens are cited as probable isolectotypes, since they lack confident label data. Four lectotypifications and one second‐step lectotypification are newly proposed. Some specimens previously regarded as "holotypes" are better referred to as inadvertently chosen lectotypes. We show evidence that Lindsaea lanceolata Labill. (= L. ensifolia Sw. subsp. ensifolia), although originally described from Tasmania, was probably mislabeled, and the specimen was actually from Amboyna (= Ambon), Indonesia. We provide an Appendix with links to online images of nearly all type specimens.

Abstract:The article typified thirteen names of Chinese poplars which published by Zhao Tian-Bang or together with his cooperator in 1978 and 1980. By examining specimens preserved at PE, KUN, WUK, CAF, and HEAC, communication with Zhao Tian-Bang, we found that the original materials of Populus honanensis, P. funiushanensis, P. celtidifolia, P. davidiana var. lyshehensis, P. adenopoda var. nanchaoensis, P. adenopoda var. rotundifolia, P. hopeiensis var. ovatifolia, P. hopeiensis var. flavida, P. sunghoensis, P. davidiana var. longipetiolata, P. yunsiaoshanensis, and P. adenopoda var. microphylla were lost, and there was only one illustration left for P. tomentosa var. rotundifolia. According to the protologues, our fieldwork in the type localities and Zhao Tian-Bang’s identification, neotypes were designated for twelve taxa. An illustration was selected as the lectotype of P. tomentosa var. rotundifolia.
