Abstract:In this study, ultrasonic surface rolling process (USRP) machining for strengthening the surface of gear steel 20CrNiMo for carburizing. X-ray diffraction, laser scanning copolymer microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electron back scatter diffraction and electrochemical techniques were employed to characterize microhardness, microstructure, surface morphology and corrosion properties before and after the USRP. The surface integrity of the 20CrNiMo steel material was reconstructed after processing by USRP, and its surface roughness reached 0.29 μm, which is 34% lower than the original surface roughness value. The surface microhardness increased to 751.30 HV 0.5 , which is an 8.7% improvement. After USRP, the nuclear mean orientation error increases, the proportion of LAGBS increases to 27.2%, and the dislocation activity becomes more intense. The corrosion resistance of USRP-treated workpieces is determined by three aspects, namely, surface roughness, grain refinement effect and surface dislocation density. The corrosion resistance of the workpieces was improved at a static pressure of 1000 N.
