Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the critical order Hénon-Lane-Emden type equations with Navier boundary condition on a half space $\mathbb{R}^n_+$: \begin{equation}\label{NPDE0}\\\begin{cases} (-\Delta)^{\frac{n}{2}} u(x)=f(x,u(x)),\ u(x)\geq0,\ x\in\mathbb{R}^{n}_+, \\ u=(-\Delta)u = \cdots = (-\Delta)^{\frac{n}{2}-1}u = 0,\ x\in\partial\mathbb{R}^{n}_+, \end{cases}\end{equation} where $u\in C^{n}(\mathbb{R}^{n}_+)\cap C^{n-2}(\overline{\mathbb{R}^{n}_+})$ and $n\geq2$ is even. We first consider the typical case $f(x,u)=|x|^{a}u^{p}$ with $0\leq a<\infty$ and $1<p<\infty$. We prove the super poly-harmonic properties and establish the equivalence between (0.1) and the corresponding integral equations \begin{equation}\label{IE0} u(x)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^{n}_+}G(x,y)f(y,u(y))dy, \end{equation} where $G(x,y)$ denotes the Green's function for $(-\Delta)^{\frac{n}{2}}$ on $\mathbb{R}^n_+$ with Navier boundary conditions. Then, we establish Liouville theorem for (0.2) via ``the method of scaling spheres" developed initially in \cite{DQ0} by Dai and Qin, and hence we obtain the Liouville theorem for (0.1) on $\mathbb{R}^n_+$. As an application of the Liouville theorem on $\mathbb{R}^n_+$ (Theorem 1.6) and Liouville theorems in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ established in Chen, Dai and Qin [4] for $n\geq4$ and Bidaut-Véron and Giacomini [1] for $n=2$, we derive a priori estimates and existence of positive solutions to critical order Lane-Emden equations in bounded domains for all $n\geq2$ and $1<p<\infty$. Extensions to IEs and PDEs with general nonlinearities $f(x,u)$ are also included.

Abstract:We study nonnegative solutions to the following Hardy-Hénon type equations involving higher order fractional Laplacians $$ (-\Delta)^\sigma u = |x|^{-\alpha}u^{p} ~~~~~~ \mbox{in} ~ \mathbb{R}^n \backslash \{0\} $$ with a possible singularity at the origin, where $\sigma$ is a real number satisfying $0 < \sigma < n/2$, $-\infty < \alpha < 2\sigma$ and $p>1$. By a more direct approach without using the super poly-harmonic properties, we establish an integral representation for nonnegative solutions to the above higher order fractional equations whether the singularity $\{0\}$ is removable or not. As the first application, we prove an optimal Liouville-type theorem for the above equations with removable singularity for all $\sigma \in (0, n/2)$ when $$ 1 < p < p_{\sigma,\alpha}^*:=\frac{n+2\sigma -2\alpha}{n-2\sigma} ~~~ \mbox{and} ~~~ -\infty < \alpha < 2\sigma. $$ This, in particular, covers a gap occurring for non-integral $\sigma \in (1, n/2)$ and $\alpha \in (0, 2\sigma)$ in the current literature. As the second application, we show the radial symmetry of solutions in the critical case or in the case when the origin is a non-removable singularity. Such radial symmetry would be useful in studying the singular Yamabe-type problems.

Abstract:We show that the Dirichlet problem at infinity is unsolvable for the p-Laplace equation for any nonconstant continuous boundary data, for certain range of p>n, on an n-dimensional Cartan-Hadamard manifold constructed from a complete noncompact shrinking gradient Ricci soliton. Using the steady gradient Ricci soliton, we find an incomplete Riemannian metric on ${\mathbb R}^2$ with positive Gauss curvature such that every positive p-harmonic function must be constant for $p\geq 4$.

Applying the Gidas–Spruck type estimates, we prove that under suitable conditions, the equation does not have positive solutions. Under nature structure conditions on f and g , we classify the positive solutions for the semi-linear elliptic system involving the fractional Laplacian by using the direct method of the moving spheres introducing by W. Chen, Y. Li, and R. Zhang ("A direct method of moving spheres on fractional order equations," J. Funct. Anal. , vol. 272, pp. 4131â€“4157, 2017). In the half space, we establish a Liouville type theorem without any assumption of integrability by combining the direct method of moving planes and moving spheres, which improves the result proved by W. Dai, Z. Liu, and G. Lu ("Liouville type theorems for PDE and IE systems involving fractional Laplacian on a half space," Potential Anal. , vol. 46, pp. 569â€“588, 2017).

Liouville theorems and universal estimates for superlinear elliptic problems without scale invariance

Abstract:We give applications of known and new Liouville type theorems to universal singularity and decay estimates for non scale invariant elliptic problems, including Lane-Emden and Schrödinger type systems. This applies to various classes of nonlinearities with regular variation and possibly different behaviors at $0$ and $\infty$. To this end, we adapt the method from [72] to elliptic systems, which relies on a generalized rescaling technique and on doubling arguments from [55]. This is in particular facilitated by new Liouville type theorems in the whole space and in a half-space, for elliptic problems without scale invariance, that we obtain. Our results apply to some non-cooperative systems, for which maximum principle based techniques such as moving planes do not apply. To prove these Liouville type theorems, we employ two methods, respectively based on Pohozaev-type identities combined with functional inequalities on the unit sphere, and on reduction to a scalar equation by proportionality of components. In turn we will survey the existing methods for proving Liouville-type theorems for superlinear elliptic equations and systems, and list some of the typical existing results for (Sobolev subcritical) systems. In the case of scalar equations, we also revisit the classical Gidas-Spruck integral Bernstein method, providing some improvements which turn out to be efficient for certain nonlinearities, and we next compare the performances of various methods on a benchmark example.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish uniform a priori estimates for positive solutions to the (higher) critical order superlinear Lane–Emden system in bounded domains with Navier boundary conditions in arbitrary dimensions . First, we prove the monotonicity of solutions for odd order (higher order fractional system) and even order system (integer order system) respectively along the inward normal direction near the boundary by the method of moving planes. Then we derive uniform a priori estimates by establishing the precise relationships between the maxima of u , v , and through the Harnack inequality. Our results extended the uniform a priori estimates for critical order problems in Kamburov and Sirakov (Calc Var Partial Differ Equ 57:8, 2018), Kamburov and Sirakov (Uniform a priori estimates for positive solutions of the Lane-Emden system in the plane, arXiv:2205.02587, 2022) from to higher dimensions and in Chen and Wu (Calc Var Partial Differ Equs 60:19, 2021), Clément et al. (Comm Partial Diff Equ 17:923–940, 1992) from one single equation to system. With such a priori estimates, one will be able to obtain the existence of solutions via topological degree theory or a continuation argument.

We first use the Pohozaev-type identity to show the nonexistence of solutions for 1 . When the equation has double critical exponents, i.e. q=2∗ , we obtain the existence of radial ground state solutions by the Nehari manifold and Mountain pass theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish the sharp criteria for the nonexistence of positive solutions to the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (HLS) type system of nonlinear equations and the corresponding nonlinear differential systems of Lane-Emden type equations. These nonexistence results, known as Liouville type theorems, are fundamental in PDE theory and applications. A special iteration scheme, a new shooting method and some Pohozaev type identities in integral form as well as in differential form are created. Combining these new techniques with some observations and some critical asymptotic analysis, we establish the sharp criteria of Liouville type for our systems of nonlinear equations. Similar results are also derived for the system of Wolff type integral equations and the system of $\gamma$-Laplace equations. A dichotomy description in terms of existence and nonexistence for solutions with finite energy is also obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence and nonexistence of solutions of a system of inequalities where ( V , E ) is an infinite, connected, locally finite weighted graph, p > 1, q > 1, h 1 , h 2 are positive potential functions and Δ is the standard graph Laplacian. We prove that, under some growth assumptions on weighted volume of balls and the existence of a suitable distance on the graph, any nonnegative solution of the above system must be trivial. We also give an application to the N -dimensional integer lattice graph Z N and show the sharpness of the obtained result. In particular, our result is a natural extension of the recent result [Monticelli, D. D.—Punzo, F.—Somaglia, J.: Nonexistence results for semilinear elliptic equations on weighted graphs , arXiv:2306.03609, (2023)] from a single inequality to a system of inequalities.

Abstract:We obtain a Harnack type inequality for solutions of the Liouville type equation, \begin{equation}\nonumber -\Delta u=|x|^{2\alpha}K(x)e^{\displaystyle u} \qquad\text{in} \,\,\, \Omega, \end{equation} where $\alpha\in(-1,0)$, $\Omega$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^2$ and $K$ satisfies, \begin{equation}\nonumber 0<a\leq K(x)\leq b<+\infty. \end{equation} This is a generalization to the singular case of a result by C.C. Chen and C.S. Lin [Comm. An. Geom. 1998], which considered the regular case $\alpha=0$. Part of the argument of Chen-Lin can be adapted to the singular case by means of an isoperimetric inequality for surfaces with conical singularities. However, the case $\alpha\in(-1,0)$ turns out to be more delicate, due to the lack of traslation invariance of the singular problem, which requires a different approach.
