Abstract:We study nonnegative solutions to the following Hardy-H´enon type equations involving higher order fractional Laplacians in R n 0 } which have a possible singularity at the origin, where σ is a real number satisfying 0 < σ < n/ 2 , −∞ < α < 2 σ and p > 1 . By a more direct approach without using the super poly-harmonic properties of nonnegative solutions, we establish an integral representation for nonnegative solutions to the above higher order fractional equations whether the singularity { 0 } is removable or not. As the ﬁrst application, we prove Liouville theorems for nonnegative solutions to the above equations with removable singularity for all σ ∈ (0 , n/ 2) when This, in particular, covers a gap occurring for non-integral σ ∈ (1 , n/ 2) and α ∈ (0 , 2 σ ) in the current literature. As the second application, we show the radial symmetry of nonnegative solutions to the above equations in the critical case or in the case where the singularity at the origin is not removable. Such radial symmetry would be useful in studying the higher order singular Yamabe problems and characterizing isolated singularities of the higher order Hardy-H´enon equations.

Abstract:We study nonnegative solutions to the following Hardy-Hénon type equations involving higher order fractional Laplacians $$ (-\Delta)^\sigma u = |x|^{-\alpha}u^{p} ~~~~~~ \mbox{in} ~ \mathbb{R}^n \backslash \{0\} $$ with a possible singularity at the origin, where $\sigma$ is a real number satisfying $0 < \sigma < n/2$, $-\infty < \alpha < 2\sigma$ and $p>1$. By a more direct approach without using the super poly-harmonic properties, we establish an integral representation for nonnegative solutions to the above higher order fractional equations whether the singularity $\{0\}$ is removable or not. As the first application, we prove an optimal Liouville-type theorem for the above equations with removable singularity for all $\sigma \in (0, n/2)$ when $$ 1 < p < p_{\sigma,\alpha}^*:=\frac{n+2\sigma -2\alpha}{n-2\sigma} ~~~ \mbox{and} ~~~ -\infty < \alpha < 2\sigma. $$ This, in particular, covers a gap occurring for non-integral $\sigma \in (1, n/2)$ and $\alpha \in (0, 2\sigma)$ in the current literature. As the second application, we show the radial symmetry of solutions in the critical case or in the case when the origin is a non-removable singularity. Such radial symmetry would be useful in studying the singular Yamabe-type problems.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish Liouville type results for semilinear subelliptic systems associated with the sub-Laplacian on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^{n}$ involving two different kinds of general nonlinearities. The main technique of the proof is the method of moving planes combined with some integral inequalities replacing the role of maximum principles. As a special case, we obtain the Liouville theorem for the Lane-Emden system on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^{n}$, which also appears to be a new result in the literature.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the critical order Hénon-Lane-Emden type equations with Navier boundary condition on a half space $\mathbb{R}^n_+$: \begin{equation}\label{NPDE0}\\\begin{cases} (-\Delta)^{\frac{n}{2}} u(x)=f(x,u(x)),\ u(x)\geq0,\ x\in\mathbb{R}^{n}_+, \\ u=(-\Delta)u = \cdots = (-\Delta)^{\frac{n}{2}-1}u = 0,\ x\in\partial\mathbb{R}^{n}_+, \end{cases}\end{equation} where $u\in C^{n}(\mathbb{R}^{n}_+)\cap C^{n-2}(\overline{\mathbb{R}^{n}_+})$ and $n\geq2$ is even. We first consider the typical case $f(x,u)=|x|^{a}u^{p}$ with $0\leq a<\infty$ and $1<p<\infty$. We prove the super poly-harmonic properties and establish the equivalence between (0.1) and the corresponding integral equations \begin{equation}\label{IE0} u(x)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^{n}_+}G(x,y)f(y,u(y))dy, \end{equation} where $G(x,y)$ denotes the Green's function for $(-\Delta)^{\frac{n}{2}}$ on $\mathbb{R}^n_+$ with Navier boundary conditions. Then, we establish Liouville theorem for (0.2) via ``the method of scaling spheres" developed initially in \cite{DQ0} by Dai and Qin, and hence we obtain the Liouville theorem for (0.1) on $\mathbb{R}^n_+$. As an application of the Liouville theorem on $\mathbb{R}^n_+$ (Theorem 1.6) and Liouville theorems in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ established in Chen, Dai and Qin [4] for $n\geq4$ and Bidaut-Véron and Giacomini [1] for $n=2$, we derive a priori estimates and existence of positive solutions to critical order Lane-Emden equations in bounded domains for all $n\geq2$ and $1<p<\infty$. Extensions to IEs and PDEs with general nonlinearities $f(x,u)$ are also included.

Abstract:A fundamental theorem of Liouville asserts that positive entire harmonic functions in Euclidean spaces must be constant. A remarkable Liouville-type theorem of Caffarelli-Gidas-Spruck states that positive entire solutions of $-\Delta u=u^{ {(n+2)}/{(n-2)} }$, $n\ge 3$, are unique modulo Möbius transformations. Far-reaching extensions were established for general fully nonlinear conformally invariant equations through the works of Chang-Gursky-Yang, Li-Li, Li, and Viaclovsky. In this paper, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the validity of such Liouville-type theorems. This leads to necessary and sufficient conditions for local gradient estimates of solutions to hold, assuming a one-sided bound on the solutions, for a wide class of fully nonlinear elliptic equations involving Schouten tensors. A pivotal advancement in proving these Liouville-type theorems is our enhanced understanding of solutions to such equations near isolated singularities. In particular, we utilize earlier results of Caffarelli-Li-Nirenberg on lower- and upper-conical singularities. For general conformally invariant fully nonlinear elliptic equations, we prove that a viscosity super- (sub-)solution can be extended across an isolated singularity if and only if it is a lower- (upper-)conical singularity. We also provide necessary and sufficient conditions for lower- (upper-)conical behavior of a function near isolated singularities in terms of its conformal Hessian. As an application of our Liouville theorems and local gradient estimates, we establish new existence and compactness results for conformal metrics on a closed Riemannian manifold with prescribed symmetric functions of the Schouten (Ricci) tensor, allowing the scalar curvature of the conformal metrics to have varying signs.

Abstract:When the domain is a complete noncompact Riemannian manifold with nonnegative Bakry--Emery Ricci curvature and the target is a complete Riemannian manifold with sectional curvature bounded above by a positive constant, by carrying out refined gradient estimates, we obtain a better Liouville theorem for ancient solutions to the V-harmonic map heat flows. Furthermore, we can also derive a Liouville theorem for quasi-harmonic maps under an exponential growth condition.

Abstract:We prove a Liouville-type theorem for biharmonic maps from a complete Riemannian manifold of dimension $n$ that has a lower bound on its Ricci curvature and positive injectivity radius into a Riemannian manifold whose sectional curvature is bounded from above. Under these geometric assumptions we show that if the $L^p$-norm of the tension field is bounded and the $n$-energy of the map is sufficiently small then every biharmonic map must be harmonic, where $2<p<n$.

Abstract:This work deals with the Entire solutions of a nonlinear equation. The first part of this paper is devoted to investigation of the Liouville property on compact manifolds, which extends a result by Castorina-Mantegazza [4] for positive f. Secondly, we will turn to non-compact manifolds and prove a Liouville theorem under the assumptions of boundedness of the Ricci curvature from below, diffeomorphism of M with R^N and sub-criticality of p defined below. Finally, we also present simplified proofs of Yau's theorem for harmonic function and Gidas-Spruck's theorem for elliptic semilinear equation. Our proofs are based on Li-Yau type estimation for nonlinear equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the following quasilinear elliptic systems-Delta mu=f1(u,v)inRN,-Delta mv=f2(u,v)inRN.Here Delta m is the well-known m-Laplacian operator, m>1. Under appropriate conditions on the functions f1 and f2, we prove some Liouville-type nonexistence theorems. The Liouville-type results can be applied to non-cooperative quasilinear Schrodinger-type systems, and we obtain a priori estimates, singularity and decay estimates for the non-negative solutions of the non-cooperative quasilinear Schrodinger-type systems.

Abstract:We show that the Dirichlet problem at infinity is unsolvable for the p-Laplace equation for any nonconstant continuous boundary data, for certain range of p>n, on an n-dimensional Cartan-Hadamard manifold constructed from a complete noncompact shrinking gradient Ricci soliton. Using the steady gradient Ricci soliton, we find an incomplete Riemannian metric on ${\mathbb R}^2$ with positive Gauss curvature such that every positive p-harmonic function must be constant for $p\geq 4$.

Abstract:We prove several Liouville theorems for F -harmonic maps from some complete Riemannian manifolds by assuming some conditions on the Hessian of the distance function, the degrees of F ( t ) and the asymptotic behavior of the maps at infinity. In particular, the results can be applied to F -harmonic maps from some pinched manifolds, and can deduce a Bernstein type result for an entire minimal graph.

Chen, Y. Li, and R. Zhang ("A direct method of moving spheres on fractional order equations," J. Funct. Anal. , vol. 272, pp. 4131â€“4157, 2017). In the half space, we establish a Liouville type theorem without any assumption of integrability by combining the direct method of moving planes and moving spheres, which improves the result proved by W. Dai, Z. Liu, and G. Lu ("Liouville type theorems for PDE and IE systems involving fractional Laplacian on a half space," Potential Anal. , vol. 46, pp. 569â€“588, 2017).
