Abstract:This paper describes that high-yield Ag/C coaxial nanocables has been obtained via a simple hydrothermal approach through the in situ reaction of Ag+ and glucose in the condition of CTAB. The glucose not only acts as reducing agent but also as carbon source. It was found that high aspect ratio(>400)of nanocables with Ag nanowires core diameter (20-60)nm and various carbon shell thickness had been prepared in large scale with a facile aqueous reduction route at low temperatures for different times. All of the products were characterized in detail by multiform techniques: X-ray diffraction(XRD), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), high-resolution TEM(HRTEM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX).

Abstract:MgO nanowires combined with C nanotubes have been prepared through method of high-temperature catalytic reaction. The nanostructures consist of nanowires that have right-angled zigzag manner to elongate in three dimensions. Structural characterization and elemental composition analysis identified that the nanowires were made of MgO nanowires combined with C nanotubes. A growth mechanism based on the vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) process is proposed for the formation of the combined nanostructures. With the aid of XRD, SEM, HRTEM and EDS, the morphology, structure and growth mechanism were investigated.

Abstract:Single crystalline SnS nanowires with an average diameter of 30 nm and lengths of up to hundreds of micrometers were synthesized by using cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), together with SnCl2, oxalic acid (H2C2O4), and sodium sulfide (Na2S). The crystallity, purity, morphology, and structure features of the-prepared SnS nanowires were investigated by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Raman spectrum.

Abstract:Normally, the synthesis of the BaTiO3 nanowires is via the ion exchange of K2Ti8O17 nanowires with Ba2+ under hydrothermal conditions. The concentration of the Ba2+ should be maintained at a low concentration to slow the ion exchange for preventing the crush of templates, thus reducing the quality and yield of the nanowires. In this paper, insoluble barium salt, that is, barium carbonate (BaCO3) powder was used as a Ba2+ sustained release agent, which can release a sufficient amount of Ba2+ and keep the low concentration of Ba2+ for ion exchange. The BaTiO3 nanowires with an ultra-high aspect ratio were prepared by this strategy. Thereafter, XRD, SEM, etc. Were used to characterize the as-obtained samples. Results showed that the obtained nanowires possess an average diameter of 11.6 nm and length up to several microns. Compared with other easily soluble barium salts, BaCO3 can reduce the cation exchange rate and increase the nucleation and growth of BaTiO3 nanowires. Additionally, reliable and reproducible experimental phenomenon showed that the above method has obvious advantages in large-scale production and high consistency, which provides an essential strategy for the application of BaTiO3 nanowires in flexible electronic devices, especially in capacitive sensors, film-type capacitors, and energy-storage devices.

Abstract:Large-scale gamma-MnOOH and beta-MnO2, nanorods have been synthesized via the hydrothermal process assisted with CTAB at 200 degrees C for 20 h using MnSO4 and NaOH as source and subsequent calcination of gamma-MnOOH nanorods at 300 degrees C for 3 h, respectively. The characterization of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) indicate that the gamma-MnOOH and beta-MnO2 nanorods prepared are monoclinic and tetragonal single crystalline, respectively. Furthermore, the mechanism for the CTAB assisted hydrothermal synthesis of gamma-MnOOH nanorods has been preliminarily presented. (c) 2006 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Abstract:Long Bi2O3 nanowires have been prepared via the thioglyolic acid (HSCH2COOH, TGA) assisted hydrothermal method. The x-ray diffraction pattern shows that the Bi2O3 nanowires obtained are of orthorhombic phase. High resolution transmission electron microscopy identifies that the Bi2O3 nanowires are single crystalline in nature. Furthermore, we give a preliminary presentation of the mechanism for the TGA-assisted hydrothermal synthesis of Bi2O3 nanowires.

Abstract:La0. 8Ca0. 2MnO3 nanowires were prepared by using a simple sol-gel method with nano-channel alumina(NCA) as template. The effects of two kinds of annealing methods. on the structure, morphology of La0. 8Ca0. 2MnO3 nanowires were investigated. The diameter of La0. 8Ca0. 2MnO3 nanowires prepared by ramping the furnace temperature directly to 800 degreesC with a rate of 10 degreesC/min is larger than that of pores within NCA. While, the diameter of La0. 8Ca0. 2MnO3 nanowires prepared by ramping the furnace temperature to 400 degreesC with a rate of 2 degreesC /min and keeping at this temperature for I h, then ramping to 800 degreesC with a rate of 10 degreesC /min and keeping at this temperature for 2 h is nearly equivalent to that of pores within NCA. XRD and selected area electron diffraction indicate that the nanowires derived under the two annealing conditions are of monoclinic perovskite structure. It is demonstrated that the La0. 8Ca0. 2MnO3 nanowires with monoclinic perovskite structure can be fabricated at low temperatures by employing a solution route. The method presented in this paper is also feasible for fabricating the nanowires of other mono-component and multi-component oxides.

Abstract:A novel, simple and efficient procedure was developed to electrodeposit one-dimensional Ag nanowires from reverse hexagonal liquid crystalline phases by using their one-dimensional cylindrical aqueous microdomains as space-confined reactors. Using this soft-template approach, flexible Ag nanowire arrays with wire diameter of 15-30 nm, high aspect ratio over 1000, and high wire densities over 10 11 wires/cm 2 were obtained. The Ag nanowire arrays can be easily collected by simply washing. The nanowires obtained can be used either in high-density bundle form or as single wires after dispersion by untrasonication.

Abstract:Abstract The influence of the activity of Mg(OH)2 on the formation of magnesium hydroxide chloride hydrate 3 Mg(OH)2·MgCl2·8H2O (abbreviated as 318MHCH) nanowires was investigated in this paper. Active Mg(OH)2 was synthesised from Mg(OH)2 agglomerates via calcination at 500°C for 1 hour followed by hydration in water at 80°C for 1 hour. The calcination–hydration pretreatment led to the increase of the specific surface area of Mg(OH)2 from 11·4 to 46·7 m2 g−1 and the decrease of the primary crystallite sizes of (001) from 20·6 to 13·7 nm. 318MHCH nanowires with a length of 80–120 μm and a diameter of 50–100 nm were produced by aging of the mixture containing active Mg(OH)2 and 4 mol L−1 MgCl2 at 80°C for 24 hours.

Abstract:Aligned single crystal boron nanowires (BNWs) were fabricated by CVD process in Nano-channel Al2O3 (NCA) substrates at 800 degrees C Using boron nanowires as precursors, arrayed single crystal hexagonal MgB2 nanowires were fabricated by reacting BNWs in ATCA with Mg vapor in a sealed vacuum quartz tube. And it is indicated that the nanowires had a superconducting transition temperature (T-c) at similar to 35K. Mg3B2O6 nanowires were fabricated in-situ at 950 degrees C by reacting Mg, diborane and traces of oxygen. The growth mechanisms of these nanowires have been discussed.

Abstract:We have developed a robust method for the synthesis of silica nanotubes with controlled aspect ratios on a large scale by templating against rod-like nanocrystals. Crystalline nanorods of a nickel-hydrazine complex are first formed in reverse micelles by surfactant capping on side facets, and subsequent silica coating and selective etching give rise to silica nanotubes of high uniformity and yield. The length of the silica nanotubes is tunable in the range 37-340 nm and can reach as long as micrometers. Control of the length is conveniently achieved by tuning the hydrazine/nickel ratio, which affects the growth kinetics of the nanocrystal templates. The inner diameter of the silica nanotubes can be adjusted in the range 10-20 nm by choosing different surfactants. This method is unique in utilizing reverse micelles as discrete nanoscale reactors for the growth of nanocrystals, allowing for precise control of the features of the nanotubes and opening up new opportunities in the synthesis of novel anisotropic nanomaterials, construction of nanodevices, and potential drug delivery applications.

Abstract:The thermal decomposition of 3Mg(OH)(2)center dot MgCl2 center dot 8H(2)O (318MHCH) nanowires synthesized fromagglomerated Mg(OH)(2) microspheres was investigated. The influence of heating rate and temperature on the composition and morphology of the products was investigated. Thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimetry, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction showed that increasing the heating rate from 1 to 20 degrees C/min promoted the escape of crystalline water from the 318MHCH nanowires. 318MHCH nanowires were dehydrated stepwise to 310MHCH porous nanowires from room temperature to 320 degrees C, and then to MgO cubic nanoparticles from 420 to 700 degrees C. The nanowires retained their one-dimensional morphology, until the phase changed to MgO. The immediate collapse of the one-dimensional structure was attributed to the presence of Mg-O/Cl chains. Abstract:High-quality charge-transfer complex AgTCNQ nanowires have been successfully synthesized by a facile nanoelectro-chemical approach utilizing carbon nanotube (CNT) electrodes. These nanowires have diameters of 30-80 nm and lengths of up to several tens of micrometers, and exhibit remarkable electrical switching bistability. The uniform and high aspect ratio nature of nanowires originates from the one-dimensional structural feature and ultrasmall surface area of the CNTs.

Abstract:We successfully prepared a surfactant-assisted carbon nanotube (CNT) liquid crystal (LC) dispersion with double-walled CNTs (DWCNTs) having a high aspect ratio (≈1378). Compared to dispersions of single-walled CNTs (SWCNTs) with lower aspect ratio, the transition concentrations from isotropic phase to biphasic state, and from biphasic state to nematic phase are lowered, which is consistent with the predictions of the Onsager theory. An aligned DWCNT film was prepared from the DWCNT dispersion by a simple bar-coating method. Regardless of the higher aspect ratio, the order parameter obtained from the film is comparable to that from SWCNTs with lower aspect ratios. This finding implies that precise control of the film formation process, including a proper selection of substrate and deposition/drying steps, is crucial to maximize the CNT-LC utilization.

Abstract:Large amounts of single crystalline Cr2O3 nanowires/nanobelts were obtained using CrCl3 assistant synthesis method. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy results showed the nanowire/nanobelt morphology of the product. X-ray diffraction and high resolution transmission electron microscopy illustrated the formation of the alumina phase Cr2O3 nanowires/nanobelts. A new growth mechanism of the nanowires/nanobelts is proposed and discussed. Zero field and field cooled temperature dependence of magnetization measurements of the nanowires/nanobelts showed clear decrease of the Nel temperature compared to their bulk forms, which is attributed to size and surface effect of the Cr2O3 nanowires/nanobelts. Abstract:Silver nanowires with controllable and high length-diameter ratio were prepared by using the reductibility of ethylene glycol under high temperature and selective adsorption of PVP. AgNO3, ethylene glycol, PVP and CuCl2was used as the silver source, the reductant, the capping agent and the ion additives, respectively. The effects of centrifugal rate, silver ions' concentration, AgNO3adding rate on the morphology of silver nanowires were investigated by SEM, XRD, TEM and other technologies. The results show that the optimal centrifugal rate is 2000n/s, the better silver ions’ concentration is 6.55 mg/mL, and the best rate of adding AgNO3is 6 ml/min. The silver nanowires with an average diameter of 74.9 nm, the average length of 45.5μm and its length-diameter ratio of 607.5 are obtained. The silver nanowires with good morphology and high length-diameter ratio are adjustable, which is suitable for the preparation of OLED transparent film electrode materials, and other conductive materials.

Abstract:A novel and facile method was successfully developed to fabricate nanotube (NT) and nanowire (NW) arrays through an anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) template-based Ti(OC4H9)(4) hydrolysis process. The wall thickness of the TiO2 NTs can be controlled by adjusting the concentration of Ti(OC4H9)(4) solutions. A continuous series from thin-walled NTs to completely filled NWs were synthesized using Ti(OC4H9)(4) solutions of different concentrations from 0.1 to 2.0 M. The TiO2 NTs and NWs in the AAO membrane transformed from amorphous to nanocrystalline anatase completely after annealing at 650 degrees C, which is higher than the phase transformation temperature of TiO2 powder. Optical spectra of the synthesized TiO2 NT and NW arrays/AAO composite nanostructures were characterized and showed a blue shift of the optical absorption edge with the decrease of NT wall thickness, due to the nanoscale effect and shape dependent transformation.

Abstract:We report a facile, solution-phase route to large-scale fabrication and characterization of single crystalline CU2O nanowires with controllable diameter, different morphologies, and high aspect ratios. The synthesis Of Cu2O nanowires is achieved by the reduction of cupric acetate with o-anisidine, pyrrole, or 2,5-dimethoxyaniline under hydrothermal conditions. The electrical properties of individual Cu2O nanowires have been examined by I-V characteristics. The output properties of Cu2O/poly(2,5-dimethoxyaniline) core/shell nanowires shown-type characteristics and improved conductivity, while those of Cu2O nanowires are linear. The results from this study provide a low-cost, naturally abundant nanostructured material for use in electronic devices.

Abstract:Gold nanorods were prepared in high yields by using a one-step seed-mediated process in aqueous cetyltripropylammonium bromide (CTPAB) and cetyltributylammonium bromide (CTBAB) solutions in the presence of silver nitrate. The diameters of the nanorods range from 3 to 11 nm, their lengths are in the range of 15 to 350 nm, and their aspect ratios are in the range of 2 to 70. The diameters of the Au nanorods obtained from one growth batch in CTPAB solutions decrease as their lengths increase, and their volumes decrease as the aspect ratios increase. The diameters of the Au nanorods obtained from one growth batch in CTBAB solutions first decrease and then slightly increase as their lengths increase, and their volumes increase as the aspect ratios increase. These Au nanorods are single-crystalline and are seen to be oriented in either the [100] or [110] direction under transmission electron microscopy imaging, irrespective of their sizes. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of the preparation by using wet-chemistry methods of single-crystalline Au nanorods with aspect ratios larger than 15.
