Abstract:The thermal effect often affects the performance of large-span structures significantly and even becomes one of the controlling loads. To analyze the temperature effect of a standing seam stainless steel roof (S4R) system, it is necessary to understand the temperature field and variations of the roof panel surface and the temperature effect of key nodes. First, the temperature measurement of 445J2 stainless steel (SS) panels is carried out, considering different surface treatments, inclination angles and spatial positions. Then, physical experiments are carried out with three groups of specimens to investigate the thermal effects of the roof panels and supports. The experimental results demonstrate that the SS panel temperature is significantly greater than the ambient temperature, and the maximum temperature difference can reach 34.3 degrees C. The inclination angle and spatial position greatly influence the temperature distribution of SS panels. The thermal effects of the S4R system are significant. The maximum thermal stress is about 72.3% of the yield strength of the material, and the maximum thermal deformation can reach 1/1250 of the roof span. With the change of structure form, the maximum stress and displacement of the S4R system can be increased by 13.5% and 12.2%.
