Abstract:Spent catalyst regeneration is key to the removal of coke deposit in the fluid catalytic cracking (FCC). This current study focuses on the evolution of pore structure of catalyst particle and its effect mechanism on the regeneration at different atmospheres. The results show that regenerated catalyst particles still contain coke deposit inside after combustion. The combustion caused high-temperature particle surface to further transform to catalyst matrix structure. From the analysis of x-Ray diffraction, the kaolinite phase in the matrix is changed to silica-aluminum spinel crystals, which tends to collapse and block small pores or expand large pores. Nevertheless, the micro porosity in the O 2 /CO 2 atmosphere after regeneration is increased by 32.4% and the total acid volume rises to 27.1%, compared to regenerated in air. The coexistence of gasification and partial oxidation can promote the regeneration of the spent catalyst and maintain the original structure.
