Abstract:A novel and highly diastereoselective samarium-catalyzed tandem rearrangement/reduction of secondary alpha-hydroxy epoxides, which involves a C1 to C3 carbon migration rearrangement and a very interesting hetero-Tishchenko reduction of the intermediate aldehyde and the reductant aldehyde, has been reported. This reaction could be developed to provide a facile and stereoselective construction of 2-quarternary 1,3-diol units with an hydroxymethyl moiety attached to the diastereogenic quaternary carbon center. Detailed investigations have been carried out concerning the screening of the aldehydes as a reductant, the optimization of reaction conditions, and the substrate scope of this tandem reaction. A catalytic cycle for this reaction, the electronic and steric effects of the reductant aldehydes, and the mechanism for the acyl migration of 1,3-diol monoesters are proposed.

Abstract:Drei benachbarte Stereozentren werden in einer neuen Samarium-katalysierten Konsekutivreaktion hoch diastereoselektiv erzeugt. Ausgehend von α-Hydroxyepoxiden 1 entstehen ausschließlich die C1,C2-anti-Isomere der Produkte 2 und 2′. Aus der Reaktion ließe sich ein allgemeines Verfahren für die Synthese von 1,3-Diolen mit quartärem Stereozentrum in der 2-Position entwickeln.

Abstract:Herein, we report unprecedented Ni-catalyzed chemodivergent annulations to produce the 3,4-dihydrocoumarins and 2H-chromenes that are important attractive building blocks in many biologically active compounds. By the introduction of dcype ligand, a range of 3,4-dihydrocoumarins can be afforded with good to excellent yield and wide functional group tolerance via chemoselective intramolecular tan-dem isomerization/esterification. In the absence of ligand, a useful synthesis of 2H-chromenes has been developed through a nickel-catalyzed direct O-allylic substitution with good to excellent efficiency.(c) 2023 Elsevier Inc. Abstract:Samarium is an efficient reducing agent, a radical generator in cyclization and a cascade addition reaction. Interestingly, samarium metal has crucial impact on numerous C-C and C-X (X = hetero atom) bond forming transformations. It has been established as an exceptional chemo-selective and stereoselective reagent. The reactivity of the samarium catalyst/reagent is remarkably enhanced in the presence of various additives, ligands and solvents through effective coordination and an increase in reduction potential. It has inherent character to act as electron donor for a wide range of transformations including the asymmetric version of various reactions. This review accentuates the developments in samarium-mediated/catalyzed asymmetric organic synthesis over the past 12 years, where the chirality has been induced from ligand, a nearby asymmetric center within the substrate or through coordination directed stereospecific reactions.

Abstract:Tandem aromatic rearrangements represent a potent strategy for modulating the regioselectivity of a rearrangement process. In this article, we disclose two novel tandem aromatic rearrangements triggered by sulfonium [5,5]-rearrangement recently developed in our laboratory. Specifically, the [5,5]-rearrangement of aryl sulfoxides with allyl nitriles, followed by [3,3]-Cope rearrangement, forges a seamless tandem [5,5]-/[3,3]-rearrangement cascade, affording ortho -functionalized aryl sulfides. The other tandem process involves [5,5]-rearrangement of aryl sulfoxides with allyl nitriles, followed by nucleophilic addition/DDQ-oxidation-induced [3,3]-Cope rearrangement, eventually yielding meta -functionalized aryl sulfides. Both consecutive rearrangements enrich the repertoire of tandem aromatic rearrangement methodologies. Abstract:On the basis of the chiral ion pair between catalytic anionic stereogenic-at-cobalt(III) complexes and halonium ion intermediates, an asymmetric halogenation/semipinacol rearrangement reaction has been established using N-bromosuccinimide as the halogen source. This protocol provides an alternative approach for accessing a diverse set of chiral β-bromocycloketones in good yields with high enantioselectivities (≤96% yield, 95.5:4.5 er).
