Abstract:Hollow wires with thin nanowalls constructed from two-dimensionally connected, highly crystalline nanoparticles were fabricated by electrospinning to create electrode active materials of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (5 V spinel) and 0.5Li2MnO3–0.5LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2 (solid-solution type). The resultant materials show large-energy-density properties suitable for use as cathode materials in Li-ion batteries.

Abstract:CoMn2O4 nanofibers with hollow structures are successfully prepared by the electrospinning technique. These hollow nanofibers are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analyzer. The temperature-dependent experiments are also carried out to monitor the evolution process of CoMn2O4 hollow nanofibers (HNs), and a possible formation mechanism is introduced reasonably based on the investigations. When evaluated as an electrode material for lithium-ion batteries, the results of electrochemical test show that these unique CoMn2O4 HNs exhibit admirable lithium storage performances with high specific capacity and excellent rate capability. The hollow and continuous one dimensional (ID) nanostructures of the CoMn2O4 HNs make a prominent contribution to the excellent electrochemical performance. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:A general synthetic method has been developed to fabricate and assemble ferromagnetic transition metal nanofibers. By employing the novel electrospinning technique followed by subsequent heat treatment, we have successfully prepared uniform nanofibers of Fe, Co, and Ni with diameters of similar to 25 nm and lengths longer than 100 mu m. Using a specially designed fiber collector, we can conveniently assemble magnetic nanofibers into aligned arrays. The electrospun magnetic metal nanofibers have unique magnetic properties, with much enhanced coercivities relative to bulk materials. The outstanding features of this approach to get one-dimensional magnetic nanostructure are its simplicity, effectiveness, and ease of assembly. Therefore, electrospun magnetic nanofibers can potentially be used in fabrication of high-density magnetic recording, magnetic sensors, flexible magnets, and spintronic devices.

Abstract:An application of the Li-ion batteries to advanced transportation systems essentially requires the enhancement of the rate capability; thus, the fabrication of nanostructured cathode materials with the large surface area and short Li-ion diffusion length is particularly important. In this study, an electrospinning method was adopted for the synthesis of wire-structured LiCoO2. The diameter of the as-spun fiber obtained from the precursor solution with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (vapor-grown carbon fiber, VGCF) was thinner than that of as-spun fiber obtained from the solution without VGCF. After the heat treatment, wire-structured LiCoO2 was successfully obtained regardless of the existence of dispersed VGCF in the precursor solution, although the particle size LiCoO2 fabricated with VGCF was smaller than that of LiCoO2 fabricated without VGCF. The charge/discharge and rate-capability experiments revealed that both resulting materials show the reversible Li-ion insertion/extraction reaction. However, due to the existence of a small irreversible capacity at the initial cycles, the Interfacial resistance increases, resulting in the poor cyclability and lower charge/discharge rate capability, especially for nanowire LiCoO2 fabricated with VGCF.

Abstract:Thin Mn2(NO3)2/PVA precursor nanowire was fabricated via electrospinning technology at a low temperature in this paper. After dried at 150°C for 10 hours and then sintered at 450°C for 2 hours, Mn2O3 nanowire was successfully obtained. The nanowire was characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that the nanowire was composed of pure Mn2O3 phase. The nanowire exhibited smooth surface and continuous sharp with length of tens of micrometer. The diameter of Mn2O3 nanowire was measured and calculated through SEM, which showed most probable value of about 110 nm and 270 nm. The reason of the diameter separation was also discussed.

Abstract:We have successfully prepared nanostructured LiCoO2 and LiMn2O4 fibers using a novel high frequency electrospinning method. These fibers were composed of very small crystalline grains uniformly linked with an average size less than 100 nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) were used to characterize their structures and electrochemical properties, respectively. These results suggested that a high frequency electrospinning was expected to be an effective method for the fabrication of inorganic composite fibers.

Abstract:Mn2O3 hollow nanofibers (Mn2O3 HNs) have been prepared by direct annealing of electrospun polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)/manganese acetate composite nanofibers. The morphology, crystal structure and compositions of the Mn2O3 HNs were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results indicated that composite nanofibers after calcination at high temperature still retain their fibrous morphology with a fascinating hollow structure. The resultant HNs are Mn2O3 of high purity. The temperature-dependent experiments were carried out to monitor the evolution process of Mn2O3 HNs. The well-defined Mn2O3 HNs are the products of the reversed crystallization during the annealing process.

Abstract:Co0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 nanofibers with diameter of 150-400 nm were fabricated by sol-gel method combined with electrospinning technology.The as-prepared fiber samples were characterized by means of TG-DTA,XRD,FTIR,FESEM,TEM and VSM techniques.The results show that the pure resultant products with spinel structure are basically formed after calcining the precursor fibers at 450 ℃ for 2 h.With the increase of the calcination temperature,the fiber diameters decrease and the mean size(D) of Co0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 grains within the fibers gradually increase.As a result,the fiber surface morphology gradually transforms from a porous structure to a necklace-like structure.The saturation magnetizations(Ms) of the obtained Co0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 nanofibers monotonously increase from 35.8 A·m2/kg at 450 ℃ to 80.2 A·m2/kg at 1 000 ℃ while the corresponding coercivities(Hc) initially increase and then decrease,and reaches the maximum value at about 550 ℃,which indicates that the single-domain critical size of Co0.5Ni0.5Fe2O4 in the form of nanofibers is around 30 nm.Hc of the nanofibers varies as D0.71 in a D range below the single-domain critical size,which is in good agreement with the result predicted on the basis of the random anisotropy model.In addition,the magnetic properties measured at low temperature(77 K) show the substantial enhancements in both coercivity and remanent magnetization and a relatively obvious reduction in saturation magnetization compared to the corresponding room-temperature values.

Abstract:The LiMn2O4 nanofiber cathode was synthesized by electrospinning. It forms porous “network-like” morphology with 150nm in diameter and ~20µm in length. For comparison, LiMn2O4 nanoparticle cathode was synthesized by the sol–gel thermolysis process. The nanofiber cathode processes superior cycling stability and rate capacity. The AC impedance results show that the nanofiber cathode has much lower degradation, probably due to the suppressed Mn3+ disproportionation process.

Abstract:Hollow (Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1)Oy spheres were fabricated with ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. Particle morphology of (Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1)Oy was carefully controlled by regulating the concentration of the solution containing mixed sulfates and reaction temperature. Lower solution concentration contributes to cracked hollow structure and higher temperature leads to lager particle size. Crystal phase of precursors was characterized by XRD. Morphology and microstructures of (Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1)Oy were observed by SEM and TEM. The results of ultrasonic atomization process show promise properties requirement for commercial applications.

Abstract:Three-dimensional (3D) architectures of layered LiCoO2 fibers 60-80 nm in diameter have been prepared by an electrospinning method for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. To resolve the instability of a 3D structure induced by lithium intercalation and deintercalation, a lithium phosphorous oxynitride (LiPON) layer was coated into the 3D structure. The 3D electrode of electrospun LiCoO2 fibers with a LiPON layer had a better rate capability and higher reversibility as compared with the electrospun LiCoO2 fibers without a LiPON layer, indicating the effectiveness of the LiPON layer for application of LiCoO2 fibers in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract:Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone(PVP)/[La(NO3)3+Ni(CH3COO)2] composite nanofibers were fabricated via an electrospinning technique. SEM micrographs indicated that the surface of the prepared composite fibers was smooth, and the diameters of the nanofibers were in the range of 1-3μm. XRD analysis revealed that the composite nanofibers were amorphous in structure. LaNiO3 nanofibers were fabricated by calcination of the PVP/[La(NO3)3+Ni(CH3COO)2] composite fibers. The diameters of LaNiO3 nanofibers were smaller than those of the relevant composite fibers. The surface of the LaNiO3 nanofibers became coarse with the increase of calcination temperatures. LaNiO3 porous hollow nanofibers formed by nanoparticles were acquired when firing temperature was 600-900oC. SEM images indicated that the diameters of the synthesized LaNiO3 nanofibers ranged from 500 to 800nm, and their lengths were greater than 100μm. XRD analysis revealed that LaNiO3 nanofibers were trigonal in structure with space group . Possible formation mechanism for LaNiO3 nanofibers was preliminarily proposed.

Abstract:We report the facile electrospinning fabrication of hollow V0.95Mo0.97O5 nanofibers via controlling oxidization of the V/Mo/polymer precursor, whose structural evolution upon increasing the annealing temperature are revealed. When examined as anode of lithium-ion batteries, the hollow V0.95Mo0.97O5 nanofibers display superior electrochemical properties with high cycle and rate capability, delivering high reversible capacities of 746.7/ 583.8 mAh/g at 500/1000 mA/g after 300 cycles, and a high-rate capacity of 614 mAh/g at 2000 mA/g.

Abstract:Li2MnO3 ultrathin porous nanobelts with excellent continuities have been fabricated by the electrospinning method. Both scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations showed that Li2MnO3 was well-defined one-dimensional nanobelts. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results exhibited that the regular belt-like nanostructures possessed high degree of crystallinity without any detectable impurity phases, while their nanoparticle counterparts prepared by a typical sol-gel route were beset by several foreign impurities. Moreover, such nanobelts also demonstrated larger surface areas compared with the nanoparticles. A temperature-dependent experiment has been adopted in an attempt to trail the growth process of the nanobelts, and then a possible formation mechanism was proposed. Finally, other lithium manganese oxides e.g. LiMn2O4 and Li4Mn5O12 nanobelts were also synthesized via simply changing the rations of Li to Mn, indicating a versatile method was introduced in this work to obtain regular nanobelts.
Electrospun LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4 Hollow Nanofibers As Advanced Cathodes for High Rate and Long Cycle Life Li-ion Batteries

Abstract:High-voltage LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4 spinel with one-dimensional (1D) hollow and porous architecture is fabricated via a facile single-spinneret electrospinning technique. The hierarchical porous LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4 hollow nanofibers possess similar to 200 nm in diameter and tens of micrometers in length, as well as a specific surface area as high as 43.2 m(2) g(-1). When served as Li-ion battery cathodes, the as-fabricated material delivers high specific capacities of 135 and 98 mAh g(-1) at 0.68 C and 20.4 C, respectively. Under a long-term cycling operation at 6.8 C, the cathode sustains good capacity retention of 90% after 1000 cycles. The outstanding electrochemical performance can be attributed to the porous 1D hollow nanostructure that can enlarge effective electrode/electrolyte contact areas, shorten electron/ion transport distance and accommodate volume change. Abstract:In this paper, cobalt nanofibers with controllable diameters are prepared via electrospinning. The surface morphology and the magnetic properties of Co nanofibers are investigated by scanning electron microscope and vibrating sample magnetometer. The results show that the morphology and magnetic properties of Co nanofibers can be easily adjusted by controlling the parameters during the fabrication process, such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone ratio in precursor solution, the strength of the electric field, and the heat treatment process. By comparing the morphology and magnetic properties of Co nanofibers prepared under different parameters, an optimized electrospun condition is determined. Due to the quantum size effect, the coercivity of Co nanofibers has been greatly enhanced to 1016Oe.
