Abstract:N'-Nitro-2-hydrocarbylidenehydrazinecarboximidamides and methoxyacrylates are two types of important agrochemicals. By combining their key fragments into one framework, a series of the title compounds was designed and synthesized. Some of these compounds have shown excellent insecticidal activities for aphides, for example, the LC50 values of compounds 6-06, 6-11 and 6-19 against M. perslcae and H. amygdale were found to be 1.9/14.4, 13.4/1.5 and 0.3/38.4 mg L-1 respectively. They were also effective against the mycelium growth of B. cinerea in vitro. Compound 6-04 could control (similar to 100%) cucumber anthrax and rice blast at 100 mg L-1 in vivo, and inhibit the spore germination (similar to 100%) of vegetable gray mold at 6.25 mg L-1. These compounds could be considered as potential insecticidal or fungicidal candidates for crop protection. The results of structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies are discussed.

Abstract:Natural products are a source of many novel compounds with biological activity for the discovery of new pesticides and pharmaceuticals. Quinoxaline is a fused N-heterocycle in many natural products and synthetic compounds, and seven novel quinoxaline derivatives were designed and synthesized via three steps. Pesticidal activities of title quinoxaline derivatives were bioassayed. Most of these compounds had herbicidal, fungicidal, and insecticidal activities. The compounds 2-(6-methoxy-2-oxo-3-phenylquinoxalin-1(2H)-yl)acetonitrile (3f) and 1-allyl-6-methoxy-3-phenylquinoxalin-2(1H)-one (3g) were the most active herbicides and fungicides. Mode-of-action studies indicated that 3f is a protoprophyrinogen oxidase-inhibiting herbicide. Compound 3f also possessed broad-spectrum fungicidal activity against the plant pathogen Colletotrichum species. Some of these compounds also had insecticidal activity. Molecular docking and DFT analysis can potentially be used to design more active compounds.

Abstract:In searching for new insecticidal lead compound,25 title compounds were designed and synthesized from two active moieties in different typical insecticides,i.e.neonicotinoids and hydrocarbylidene hydrazinecarboxamides,of which 22 are new compounds.All the structures were confirmed by 1H NMR and elementary analysis.The preliminary bioassay showed that they were effective to Bemisia tabaci(Gennadius) under 500 μg/mL,compound 3e and 3i gave an inhibition ratio up to 80%.But all the compounds were ineffective to Mythimna separata(Walker) under same concentrations.

Abstract:Using nicofluprole as the lead compound, we designed and synthesized a series of new phenylpyrazole analogues through substituting the methyl group on the nitrogen atom of the amide with an acyl group. Bioassay results showed that compounds A12-A17 with a 1-cyanocyclopropimide group exhibited outstanding insecticidal activity. The LC50 values for compounds A12-A17 against Tetranychus cinnabarinus ranged from 0.58 to 0.91 mg/L. Compound A15 showed an LC50 value of 0.29 and 3.10 mg/L against Plutella xylostella and Myzus persicae, respectively. Molecular docking indicated the potential binding interactions of compound A15 with a gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor. Additionally, density functional theory calculations implied that the 1-cyanocyclopropimide structure might be essential for its biological activity. Phenylpyrazole derivatives, containing a 1-cyanocyclopropimide fragment, have the potential for further development as potential insecticides.

Abstract:BACKGROUNDNeonicotinoids, among the most important pesticides in recent decades, have played pivotal roles in controlling agricultural pests. However, the toxicity to some environmentally beneficial insects is a cause of concern. The development of novel insecticides safer to these insects is increasingly urgent. RESULTSA novel series of hydrocarbylidene nitrohydrazinecarboximidamides were designed and synthesised, starting from S-methylisothiourea sulphate. Preliminary bioassays showed that the target molecules exhibited good activities against Lipaphis erysimi (turnip aphid) and Myzus persicae. As shown by initial insecticidal activity data, most of the target compounds had moderate to excellent activities at a concentration of 600 mg L-1 against L. erysimi, and the lethal rate of most compounds exceeded 90%. They were also highly effective against M. persicae. Some of them have shown excellent insecticidal activities, for example, the LC50 values of compounds Ie-02 to Ie-07 were found to be 3.8, 3.0, 2.5, 3.1, 4.1 and 4.0 mg L-1 respectively. CONCLUSIONStructure-activity relationship analysis indicated that a suitable flexible alkyl chain at the imine point and a Cl-substituted pyridine ring are the most crucial factors affecting the activity. Abstract:Sulfonyl-containing compounds, which exhibit a broad spectrum of biological activities, comprise a substantial proportion of and play a vital role, not only in medicines but also in agrochemicals. As a result increasing attention has been paid to the research and development of sulfonyl derivatives. A series of thirty-eight 2-substituted phenyl-2-oxo- III, 2-hydroxy- IV and 2-acyloxyethylsulfonamides V were obtained and their structures confirmed by IR, ¹H-NMR, and elemental analysis. The in vitro and in vivo bioactivities against two Botrytis cinerea strains, DL-11 and HLD-15, which differ in their sensitivity to procymidone, were evaluated. The in vitro activity results showed that the EC50 values of compounds V-1 and V-9 were 0.10, 0.01 mg L-1 against the sensitive strain DL-11 and 3.32, 7.72 mg L-1 against the resistant strain HLD-15, respectively. For in vivo activity against B. cinerea, compound V-13 and V-14 showed better control effect than the commercial fungicides procymidone and pyrimethanil. The further in vitro bioassay showed that compounds III, IV and V had broad fungicidal spectra against different phytopathogenic fungi. Most of the title compounds showed high fungicidal activities, which could be used as lead compounds for further developing novel fungicidal compounds against Botrytis cinerea.

Abstract:In biological systems, bivalent ligands often possess increased functional affinity for their receptors compared with monovalent ligands. On the basis of the structure of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), a series of novel carbamate heterodimetic derivatives were designed and synthesized with the aim of increasing the potency toward AChE inhibition. The AChE inhibitory ability of all the novel compounds was tested using AChE obtained from the brain of the housefly. The bioassay results showed that compounds 6j, 6k, 6m, 6n, 6p, and 6q had increased inhibitory activities in comparison with parent phenyl N-methylcarbamate (MH) at the concentration of 100 mg/L. Among them, the most potent AChE inhibitor of these compounds was 6q (IC(50) = 12 μM), which showed 62-fold greater AChE inhibitory activity than that of MH and 12-fold greater activity than metolcarb (MT), which suggested that the 3-nitrophenoxy moiety of compound 6q was able to interact with the aromatic amino acid residues lining the gorge and the phenyl N-methylcarbamate moiety was able to interact with the catalytic sites of AChE, simultaneously. The insecticidal activities of compounds 6j, 6k, 6m, 6n, 6p, and 6q were further evaluated. Consistent with the result in vitro bioassay, those compounds demonstrated better activities against Lipaphis erysimi than parent compound MH at the concentration of 300 mg/L, and compound 6q showed the best insecticidal activity, causing 98% mortality after 24 h of treatment.

Abstract:Diamide insecticides have always been a hot research topic in the field of pesticides. To further discover new compounds with high activity and safety, indane and its analogs were introduced into chlorantraniliprole, and a battery of chlorfenil derivatives, including indane and its analogs, were designed and prepared for biological testing. Their characterization and verification were carried out through nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). Biological detection showed that all the compounds exhibited good insecticidal activity against Mythimna separata. At 0.8 mg/L, the insecticidal activity of compound 8q against Mythimna separata was 80%, which was slightly better than that of chlorantraniliprole. The results of the structure–activity relationship (SAR) analysis indicated that the indane moiety had a significant effect on insecticidal activity, especially in the R-configuration. The results indicated that chlorantraniliprole derivatives containing indane groups could serve as pilot compounds for the further development of new insecticides.

Abstract:A series of 4-phenyl-acyl-substituted 3-(2,5-dimethylphenyl)-4-hydroxy-1-azaspiro[4.5]dec-3-ene-2,8-dione derivatives were designed and synthesized, and their structures were characterized using (1)H NMR (or (13)C NMR), mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. The bioactivities of the new compounds were evaluated. These compounds exhibited good inhibition activities against bean aphids (Aphis fabae) and carmine spider mite (Tetranychus cinnabarinus), and 4-phenyl acyl esters showed stronger bioactivity than 4-arylesterases and alkyl esters. The results showed that compound 8-I-e, which contains a para-methoxy group on the phenyl acyl, and compound 8-I-m, which contains a para-trifluoromethyl group on the phenyl acyl, displayed potent insecticidal activity against A. fabae and T. cinnabarinus respectively. The insecticidal activity showed a clear structure-activity relationship, confirming the importance of the flexible bridge. The DFT/B3LYP/6-31(d) level method was used to calculate molecular geometries and electronic descriptors. These factors included total energy, charge distribution, and the linear orbital level of the title compounds. Quantitative structure-activity relationship studies were performed on these compounds using quantum-chemical and physicochemical parameters as independent variables and insecticidal activity as a dependent variable. Insecticidal activity was most closely correlated (r > 0.8) with quantum chemical and physicochemical parameters.
Synthesis and Fungicidal Activities of Biaryl Methanone O-Benzyl Oximes

Abstract:To discover new strobilurin analogs with high pesticidal activity, 11 novel methoxy acrylates bearing biaryl methanone oxime ether moieties were synthesized from aroyl pyridines, and characterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR and HRMS. In vitro fungicidal evaluation indicated that all of the target compounds exhibited excellent activities against tested seven phytopathogenic fungi, and compounds 5d and 5g displayed comparable overall activities to azoxystrobin and trifloxystrobin. Some of the target compounds also exhibited excellent in vivo control effects at 400 mg/L, for example, compound 5h could 100% control wheat powdery mildew and cucumber anthracnose. Furthermore, at 25 mg/L, these compounds, including control agents, completely inhibited spores germination of rice blast, but no effect at all for cucumber gray mold. These results suggested that this class of compounds might deserve to be developed as new potential agricultural fungicides.

Abstract:Twenty six novel pyrimidin-4-amine derivatives containing the 1,2,4-oxadiazole motif were synthesized. Their chemical structures were confirmed by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), 13C NMR, and highresolution mass spectrography. The insecticidal activity results indicated that some of them possessed excellent insecticidal activity (100%) against Mythimna separate, especially for compounds 6d, 6f, 6o, 6w, 6y and 6z. These compounds exhibited no activity against the insects Aphis medicagini and Tetranychus cinnabarinus. The structure-insecticidal activity relationships are discussed. Density functional theory analysis can potentially be used to design more active compounds. These results provide useful insecticide design information for further optimization.

Abstract:Ten novel benzotriazinone-3-anime derivatives were designed and synthesized,and their structures were confirmed by 1H NMR and MS spectra.The preliminary bioassay results showed that the title compounds possessed insecticidal activity.At the concentration of 500 mg / L,compands 4c,4d and 7c showed more than 80% insecticidal activities against Mythimna separata;at 500 mg / L,compand 7d showed more than 80 % insecticidal activity against Aphis fabae and more than 70% insecticidal activity against Tetranchus urticae.

Abstract:In order to search for better lead compounds with excellent biological activities, a novel series of acyclic neonicotinoids of nitro arylideneamino guanidine derivatives was designed and synthesized from nitroaminoguanidine by the method of linking the active substructures of neonicotiniod insecticides and semicarbazone insecticides. All the target compounds were confirmed by H-1 NMR, IR and elemental analysis. The preliminary bioassay showed that the lethal rates of target compounds to Myzuspersicae were excellent at the concentration of 600 mu g/mL. The lethal rates of several compounds, such as 4-2, 4-8, 4-10, 4-16, 4-27, 4-31 and 4-34, were more than 90%. Further research of compounds 4-2, 4-8 and 4-34 against Myzuspersicae, Aphis gossypii and Hyalopterusamygdali blanchard indicated these compounds possessed high activity at low concentrations, especially, the activity of compound 4-8 was better than that of imidacloprid against Hyalopteraamygdali blanchard, its lethal rate was 95.7% compared to imidacloprid(79.4%) at the concentration of 3.13 mu g/mL, which confirmed that this compound is worth of research.

Some of the compounds showed good fungicidal potentials against a broad spectrum of tested fungi including Sclerotinia sclerotiorum , Cercospora arachidicola , Physalospora piricala and Rhizoctonia cerealis , and were comparable with the commercial fungicide controls, among others, 3b , 3-bromo-1-(3-chloropyridin-2-yl)- N -(6-(trifluoromethyl)benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-1 H -pyrazole-5-carboxamide ( 3d ), and N -(4-chloro-2-methyl-6-(3-methylthioureido)phenyl)-1-(3-chloropyridin-2-yl)-3-(trifluoromethyl)-1 H -pyrazole-5-carboxamide ( 6i ) could serve as novel fungicidal leading compounds for further research. Abstract:A series of 1-[2-(4-methyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine-5-carboxamido)phenyl]ethyl-substitutedphenyl carbamates ( 3a – 3i ) were designed and synthesized, using 4-methyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid, (2-aminophenyl)ethan-1-one, and substituted phenyl isocyanates as starting materials. The in vitro fungicidal activities against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum were evaluated, and the result showed that some compounds displayed moderate antifungal activity with >60% inhibitory rates, among which 1-[2-(4-methyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine-5-carboxamido)phenyl] ethyl-(2- methyl phenyl)carbamate ( 3a ) and 1-[2-(4-methyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine-5- carboxamido)phenyl] ethyl-(3-trifluoromethyl phenyl)carbamate ( 3g ) held inhibitory rates of 69.5% and 70.3% at 100 mg/L, respectively.
