Abstract:Abstract 2-Aminopyridine-3-sulfonyl chlorides undergo a reaction with tertiary amines in the presence of air to produce sulfonylethenamines. The 2-aminopyridine-3-sulfonyl chloride apparently plays a dual role in the process promoting the aerobic oxidation of the amine and electrophilically trapping the resulting enamine.

Abstract:An iron-mediated oxidative cyanation of tertiary amines with benzoyl cyanide and molecular oxygen or TBHP has been achieved. This reaction furnished α-cyanated tertiary amines under mild reaction conditions in good to excellent yields (up to 94%) with great diversity (19 examples). The cascade process involves an iron-catalyzed oxidation of tertiary amine. Our protocol features safety cyanation reagent, acid-free conditions, inexpensive iron catalyst, and aerobic oxidation.

Abstract:A simple and efficient method to synthesize N-chloro-N-sulfonylsulfinamides by the direct aminoxidation of arenethiols under aqueous and mild conditions is disclosed, geminally installing the oxo and amino groups on the sulfur atom of arenethiols. The products have been primarily developed as sulfinylation reagents to convert Grignard reagents into sulfoxides, and as amination reagents to convert secondary amines into hydrazine derivatives.

Abstract:The use of alkylthio electrophiles in synthesis has remained elusive because of the lack of a suitable reagent that is practical and of excellent enantioselectivity and appropriate reactivity. In this work we introduce a novel alkylthio reagent based on the 2-mercapto-5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole (MMTD) fragment for direct alkylsulfenylation of ketones and aldehydes. It can be readily prepared by the oxidative coupling between thiadiazole and other alkylthio reagents and be combined with chiral primary aminocatalysis. This protocol provides facile access to diverse α-alkylthio quaternary carbon centers with good stereoselectivities.

Abstract:Cu(II)-catalyzed direct thiolation of azoles with thiols is described via intermolecular C-S bond formation/C-H functionalization under oxidative conditions. Both aryl thiols and aliphatic thiols are used as coupling partners, and furnished the thiolation products in moderate to good yields. The reaction is compatible with a wide range of heterocycles including oxazole, thiazole, imidazole and oxadiazole.
