Abstract:La2Ti2O7 ceramic samples were prepared via conventional solid-state reaction route. The dielectric properties of La2Ti2O7 were investigated as functions of temperature (113-1073 K) and frequency (100 Hz(-1) MHz). Our results revealed that La2Ti2O7 ceramics exhibit intrinsic dielectric response with a dielectric constant of similar to 57 in the temperature range below 250 K. Three thermally activated dielectric relaxations were observed when the temperature higher than 250 K. The low-temperature relaxations R1 with the activation energy of 0.38 eV is found to be a polaron relaxation results from hopping holes. The high-temperature relaxations R2 and R3 are related to the conduction progress associated with the singly and doubly ionized oxygen vacancies, respectively. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:Structure and dielectric properties of complex perovskite BaTi0.8(Ni0.5Nb0.5)(0.2)O-3 ceramics have been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and dielectric spectroscopy. XRD and Raman data show that the BaTi0.8(Ni0.5Nb0.5)(0.2)O-3 ceramics have a superstructure unit cell with Fm (3) over barm space group. The dielectric characteristics in the 175-250 K region are confirmed to be an incipient ferroelectric response with frequency dependent relaxation, which is attributed to the Ni-Ni(3+2+) - V-O dipolar defect. Abstract:In this article, we report the evolution of the dielectric behavior from a dielectric relaxor to a ferroelectric relaxor with variation of Bi concentration in (Sr1−1.5xBix)TiO3 (0⩽x⩽0.2). In the doping range 0.0005⩽x⩽0.002, two dielectric modes A and B are induced. The temperature (Tm) where the permittivity maximum occurs for modes A and B is independent of Bi concentration and of dc electric fields. The complex permittivity of modes A and B follows the empirical Cole–Cole equation. The relaxation time for modes A and B follows the Arrhenius law. The dielectric possessing this type of dielectric behavior is named as a “dielectric relaxor.” At x⩾0.0033, an additional mode C appears, whose Tm increases with increasing Bi concentration. The complex permittivity for mode C does not follow the Cole–Cole equation. The relaxation time of mode C follows the Vogel–Fulcher law, indicating typical relaxor-ferroelectric behavior. In this work, we refer it to a “ferroelectric relaxor” mode. In the range of 0.0033⩽x⩽0.133, the coexistence of the dielectric-relaxor modes and the ferroelectric-relaxor mode is observed. In the samples doped with higher Bi concentration, modes A and B gradually merge into mode C, and only ferroelectric-relaxor behavior remains at x⩾0.133. This system provides a composition-controlled example of evolution from a “dielectric relaxor” to a “ferroelectric relaxor.” In addition, some controversial interpretations of the dielectric behavior of the Bi doped SrTiO3 solid solutions in the literature are discussed, and the polarization relaxation species of modes A and B are attributed to Bi ions.

Abstract:Ferroelectric transition and the low-temperature dielectric relaxations were investigated in Sr4(La1−xSmx)2Ti4Nb6O30 ceramics. The dielectric nature of the present ceramics was governed by the radius difference between A1- and A2-site ions. Low-temperature dielectric relaxations were indicated for all the compositions, and the diffuse ferroelectric peak appeared gradually with increasing x (increasing ion radius difference between A1- and A2-sites), and it became the normal ferroelectric one for x = 1. There was no peak on the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curves for the compositions with x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75, while an obvious endothermic peak was observed for x = 1. Based on the analysis of the dielectric data and the DSC results, the ferroelectric transition for x = 1 was determined as a first order phase transition, and the second order phase transition was suggested for other compositions.
Incipient Ferroelectricity and Conductivity Relaxations in Dy2Ti2O7

Abstract:Dy2Ti2O7 ceramic samples were prepared via the solid-state reaction route. The dielectric properties of the sample were systematically investigated in the temperature range from 4 K to 973 K and the frequency range of 100 Hz to 1 MHz. Both Raman and low-temperature (down to 4 K) dielectric measurements indicate incipient ferroelectricity in the Dy2Ti2O7 sample. In addition, two relaxations were observed in the temperature range above 450 K. Our results indicate that the two relaxations are related to conductivity relaxation associated with singly and doubly ionized oxygen vacancies. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Dielectric properties of La2CuTiO6 ceramics were investigated in a broad frequency and temperature range. There is only one dielectric relaxation in the curve of temperature dependence of dielectric properties for La2CuTiO6 ceramics. This dielectric relaxation is a thermal activated process. The bulk and grain boundary resistances can be obtained from results of the least-mean-square fitting on impedance spectra. The conduction mechanism of the present ceramics is also a thermal activated process. The activation energy of dielectric relaxation is almost same as that of electrical conductivity and this indicates the closely correlation between the dielectric relaxation and electrical conductivity. The dielectric relaxation in the present ceramics should be attributed to the mixed-valent structure (Cu+/Cu2+ and Ti3+/Ti4+), which is induced from the oxygen vacancy.

Abstract:Lead-free La0.02Ba0.97TiO3 (2LBT) ceramic was elaborated via the molten-salt method characterized by XRD and Raman spectroscopy. Further their electric, dielectric, and ferroelectric properties were investigated. XRD results demonstrate that the sample possessed a pure-tetragonal structure with a space group of P4/mmm. The notable effect of incorporating the La3+ cation into an A-site sublattice was clarified using Raman spectroscopy. Significant improvements have been demonstrated in dielectric properties. The observed relaxation is attributed to Maxwell–Wagner polarization. 2LBT sample demonstrated a 3 phase transition with negligible frequency dispersion indicating diffuse phase transition at the specific temperature range (292–700 K). Upper than 700 K, 2LBT sample provided a pointy transition. The electrical properties obtained from the complex electric modulus reveal a conduction process owing to the short-range mobility of charge carrier. Both ac and dc electrical conductivities are considered vs. frequency and temperature.

Abstract:The dielectric properties of ceramics in Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3) O-3-BaTiO3-PbTiO3 system were characterized using dielectric-temperature spectra. A spontaneous (zero field) relaxer-normal ferroelectric transition was observed for tetragonal-rich compositions. A significant hysteresis' effect accompanied by this transition, similar to first-order phase transition of normal ferroelectrics. This behavior was different from that of other relaxers, in which such transitions occurred only under a biased de field. This observation was explained in terms of a thermally driven transformation from an ensemble of polar microregions to normal long-range ferroelectric state (micro-macro domain transition), which was attributed to the internal field resulting from the tetragonal strain.

Abstract:Ferroelectric ceramics BaBi4−xLaxTi4O15 (BBLT) were prepared with a solid-state reaction process. The obtained phases were confirmed as the Bi-layered perovskite phase with orthorhombic structure by the X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). The dielectric relaxation was studied as a function of temperature and frequency. A dispersion of the maximum dielectric constant (ɛmax) appears around the temperature of Tm, which shifts toward higher temperatures with the increase of frequency. The modified Curie–Weiss (CW) law was used to describe the relaxor behavior of BBLT ceramics. The relaxation indication coefficient (γ) was estimated with a quadratic fit of modified CW law. The coefficient firstly increases then decreases with the lanthanum increasing, which indicates that the BBT ceramics changes from relaxor-like ferroelectrics to relaxor ferroelectrics then to relaxor-like ferroelectrics with the lanthanum increasing. The relaxor nature of BBLT ceramics was attributed to the A site cationic disorder and the special relaxor behavior of BBLT ceramics was attributed to the high temperature phase transition by La3+ induced.

Abstract:The La2-xNdxMo2O9 (x = 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0) ceramics were successfully synthesized via the sol-gel method. Structural and microstructural analyses revealed that all the samples crystallize in the cubic phase and exhibit dense microstructures, although their particle sizes vary. Dielectric, impedance, and electric modulus spectroscopic analyses revealed two relaxation processes in both the temperature and the frequency spectra. Further investigation clarified that the two relaxation processes are associated with grain and grain-boundary relaxation. At temperatures less than 683 K, the bulk response is a localized relaxation process, whereas long-range conductivity dominates when the temperature is increased to 713 K. (C) The Author(s) 2016. Ferroelectric to Relaxor Transition in BaTiO3-Bi(Zn2/3Nb1/3)O-3 Ceramics

Abstract:The (1-x)BaTiO3-xBi(Zn2/3Nb1/3)O-3 (x = 0.01-0.30) ceramics were synthesized by solid-state reactions. The solubility limit was determined to be x = 0.20. A systematic structural transition from a tetragonal phase (x 0.034), to a mixture of tetragonal and rhombohedral phases (0.038 x 0.20), and finally to a pseudocubic phase (x 0.22) at room temperature was identified. Dielectric measurement revealed a ferroelectric (x 0.04) to relaxor (x 0.06) transition with permittivity peak broadening and flattening, which was further verified by Raman spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Activation energies obtained from the Vogel-Fulcher model displayed an increasing trend from similar to 0.03 eV for x similar to 0.05, to unusually high values (>0.20 eV) for the compositions with x 0.15. With the increase in Bi(Zn2/3Nb1/3)O-3 content, the polarization hysteresis demonstrated a tendency from high nonlinearity to sublinearity coupled with the reduction in remnant polarization and coervice field. The deconvolution of the irreversible/reversible polarization contribution was enabled by first-order reversal curve distributions, which indicates that the decreasing polarization nonlinearity with the increase in Bi(Zn2/3Nb1/3)O-3 concentration could be related with the change from the ferroelectric domain and domain wall contributions to the weakly coupled relaxor behaviors.
DIELECTRIC RELAXATION AND FERROELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF (Ba_(1-X)sr_(x/2)ca_(x/2))tio_3 CERAMICS

Abstract:Ferroelectric ceramics(Ba_(1-x)Sr_(x/2)Ca_(x/2))TiO_(3)(x=0.10,0.20,0.40,0.50,0.60) were prepared by a conventional ceramics preparation technique.X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that the ceramics sample of x=0.20 has a coexisting rhombohedral and tetragonal crystal structure.The dielectric constants as a function of temperature at different frequencies show that the ceramics have characteristics of ferroelectrics with diffused phase transition,and the ceramics sample of x=0.60 exhibits a typical relaxor ferroelectric behavior.The lowest value of the coercive field is obtained at x=0.20.The relationship between ferroelectrics with diffused phase transitions and relaxor ferroelectrics was investigated.Dielectric relaxation can be observed only when the experimental frequency is close to the relaxation frequency of the polar nano-microregion at the temperature of the diffused phase transition.

Abstract:The dielectric relaxor behavior and linear dielectric response of (Ba1-xCax)1-1.5yBiyTiO3(x =0.10, 0.20, 0.30, 0.40, 0.50;y=0.05) ceramics prepared by the conventional ceramics preparation technique were investigated. X-ray diffraction patterns indicate that 5% (in mole) of Bi3+ doping can be fully incorporated into the perovskite lattice of (Ba1-xCax)TiO3. Compared with (Ba1-xCax)TiO3 ceramics, the (Ba1-xCax)1-1.5yBiyTiO3 ceramics samples shows a typical dielectric relaxor behavior, similar to lead-based relaxor ferroelectrics. Unlike normal ferroelectrics and relaxors, an unusual linear dielectric response was found in the (Ba1-xCax)1-1.5yBiyTiO3 ceramics samples, the polarization (P)-electric field (E) relationship is close to linear;the current density(J)-E relationship is a double peak, and the hysteresis loop shows a generally shrinking effect when the electric field is close to zero. The abnormal dielectric behavior may have been due to an electric field-induced defective dipole.

Abstract:Dielectric properties of Na1/2Bi1/2Cu3Ti4O12 ceramics were evaluated over the temperature range 300-720 K. Two relaxor-like dielectric anomalies were found. The low-temperature anomaly was confirmed to be an oxygen-vacancy-related relaxation process. It is a pseudo-relaxor behavior caused by a bulk relaxation and a Maxwell-Wagner relaxation. The high-temperature one was evidenced to be an electric ferroelectric phase-transition process resulting from the oxygen-vacancy ordering.

Abstract:(1-x)BaTiO3-x(Na1/4Bi3/4)(Mg1/4Ti3/4)O-3 (0 < x <= 0.2) ceramics were synthesized by the solid-state reaction and verified to form the perovskite structure. Three dielectric anomalies corresponding to the three phase transitions of BaTiO3 were observed for samples with 0.1 <= x < 0.2 and one of those dielectric anomalies exhibit relaxation behavior. At x = 0.2, three phase transitions are pinched, and a distinct ferroelectric relaxor-like behavior dominates. Hysteresis loops were observed for the compositions with 0 < x <= 0.2. For 0.14 <= x < 0.2 partial linear P-E behaviors are observed. Coexistence of pseudo-cubic (Na1/4Bi3/4)(Mg1/4Ti3/4)O-3 and rhombohedral BaTiO3 phases depict a typical relaxor behavior in this system.

Abstract:The 0.45Bi(Mg0.5Ti0.5)O3–(0.55 − x)PbTiO3–x(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3 (BMT–PT–xBNT) ternary solid solution ceramics were prepared via a conventional solid‐state reaction method; the evolution of dielectric relaxor behavior and the electrostrain features were investigated. The XRD and dielectric measurements showed that all studied compositions own a single pseudocubic perovskite structure and undergo a diffuse‐to‐relaxor phase transition owing to the evolution of the domain from a frozen state to a dynamic state. The formation of the above dielectric relaxor behavior was further confirmed by a couple of measurements such as polarization loops, polarization current density curves, as well as bipolar strain loops. A large strain value of ~0.41% at a driving field of 7 kV/mm (normalized strain d33* of ~590 pm/V) was obtained at room temperature for the composition with x = 0.32, which is located near the boundary between ergodic and nonergodic relaxor. Moreover, this electric field‐induced large strain was found to own a frequency‐insensitive characteristic.

Abstract:In this work, we focused on the ceramic behavior of Niobium doped Barium Lanthanum Titanate single phase perovskite polycristalline with general formula Ba 0.97 La 0.02 Ti 0.98 Nb 0.016 O 3 noted BLTi 0.98 Nb 0.016 synthesized by Flux method. For various frequencies (1 kHz to 1 MHz), the dependence of dielectric constant on temperature has been determined. Two relaxor comportments are revealed by the ceramic's dielectric behaviors. Three temperature sectors were present in the synthetic BLTi 0.98 Nb 0.016 : Classical-region I (300 K < T < 350 K), Relaxor-region II (350 K < T < 550 K), and Relaxor-region III (550 K < T < 600 K). Around the temperature of the dielectric permittivity maximum, a non-Debye relaxation is clearly observed that is comparable to the dielectric relaxation in polycristalline-pervoskite-ceramic systems ( T dependence of T m represented by creation of polar nano-regions is analyzed using Debye relation, Vogel–Fulcher (V–F) relation, and power law, and the suitable model was anticipated through goodness of parameter). After non-linear curve fitting, various parameters, including freezing temperature, relaxation frequency, and so on, are found. By using Vogel–Fulcher fitting, typical tow relaxor comportments identified in the dielectric experiments were shown.

Abstract:Dielectric measurements on 0.65[Pb(Ni_1/3Nb_2/3)O_3]-0.35PbTiO_3 ceramic in the temperature range 90K to 470K shows a relaxor ferroelectric transition around 350K with a Vogel-Fulcher freezing temperature of 338K and appearance of a non-ergodic relaxor ferroelectric phase of tetragonal structure at room temperature. This non-ergodic phase reenters into the relaxor state at low temperatures as evidenced by the appearance of a frequency dependent anomaly in the imaginary part of the dielectric constant around 160K, similar to those reported in other relaxor ferroelectric based morphotropic phase boundary ceramics. The polarization relaxation time for the 160K anomaly also follows Vogel-Fulcher type temperature dependence. Temperature dependent magnetization measurements show that this low temperature anomaly is not linked with any magnetic transition. Elastic modulus and low temperature x-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements reveal a tetragonal to monoclinic phase transition around 225K. It is argued that the low temperature dielectric dispersion around 160K results from the freezing of mesoscopic conformally miniaturized monoclinic domains formed inside the parent tetragonal domains below the structural phase transition temperature of 225K.

Abstract:Since recently, lead-free dielectric ceramics have garnered significant interest for their high-power density and rapid charge-discharge capabilities. Nonetheless, their practical application is still limited by relatively low energy storage density and efficiency. To address this issue, a new class of relaxor ferroelectric ceramics ((1- x ) (Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 ) 0.7 Sr 0.3 TiO 3 - x Ca(Nb 0.5 Al 0.5 )O 3 , with x from 0.00 to 0.16) was formulated and synthesized in the present work using a solid-state reaction method. Special attention was paid to the effect of multiscale structure regulation on the energy storage properties of the ceramics. All ceramics exhibited the relaxor characteristics, which increased with the added content of Ca(Nb 0.5 Al 0.5 )O 3 (CNA). Significant achievements have been made in multi-scale regulation of energy storage characteristics of these ceramics. In particular, the ultrahigh energy storage density and efficiency (10.15 J/cm 3 and 86.2 %, respectively) were realized in the ceramic with x = 0.14. This optimized composition also displayed good temperature stability at 20 - 140 degrees C and excellent frequency stability in the range of 1 - 200 Hz. Furthermore, the outstanding charge and discharge characteristics (current density C D , power density P D, and discharge time t 0.9 of 1257 A/cm 2 , 377 MW/cm 3, and 45.8 ns, respectively) were obtained. The experimental study, finite element analysis, and first-principles calculations confirmed that the multiscale features, such as nano-scale domains, large band gap, and small grain size, promoted by the addition of CNA, are all beneficial for the improvement of energy storage performance, opening up new prospects in the application of advanced dielectric capacitors.
