Abstract:Polysubstituted vinyl sulfones were prepared stereoselectively by the carbomagnesiation of acetylenic sulfones in the presence of Cu(I). Bisubstituted vinyl sulfones were obtained by the carbomagnesiation of acetylenic sulfones followed by hydrolysis. Trisubstituted vinyl sulfones were obtained by the carbomagnesiation of acetylenic sulfones followed by reacting with other electrophiles.

Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:A gentle and effective method for the photocatalytic dual functionalization of allenes with high regio- and stereoselectivity using a nonmetallic catalyst is described. Inexpensive and easily available sulfinates and TMSN3 were employed as sulfone and azido sources, respectively. The method is characterized by satisfactory substrate compatibility and tolerance toward functional groups. The straightforward initial mechanistic experiments suggested that the reaction could follow a radical pathway. The synthesis of vinylsulfone azide derivatives presented here offers a promising scaffold for the future development of vinyl sulfone-based drugs and functional bioorthogonal reagents.

Abstract:A highly regioselective iodosulfonylation of allenes in the presence of CuI and 1,10-phenanthroline has been developed for the synthesis of various useful ( E)-α-iodomethyl vinylsulfones in moderate to excellent yields. This practical reaction is fast, operationally simple, and in particular, proceeds under very mild conditions to afford the target products with high regio- and stereoselectivity. The selectivity was illustrated by a conceptual DFT analysis.

Abstract:As an attractive C1 synthon, carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) has been extensively used in organic synthesis to produce carboxylic acids. In this research, stereoselective electrochemical carboxylation of α,β -unsaturated sulfones has been developed under transition-metal-free conditions. All the cinnamic acids and the derivatives are obtained selectively in the E -configuration. Besides, arylpropiolates also can be produced from alkynyl sulfones.

Abstract:Copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative C-S bond coupling reaction between thiophenols and aryl-substituted alkenes for (E)-vinyl sulfones synthesis is reported here. With air utilized as a green oxidant, this transformation not only produces various vinyl sulfones in moderate to good yields but also possesses a simple and ecofriendly system. To clarify the mechanism, kinetic experiments has been investigated.

Abstract:We report a versatile copper-catalyzed carbomagnesiation reaction of poly- and fully substituted 1-halocyclopropenyl esters. By fine-tuning the regioselectivity of the addition, we were able to access configurationally stable fully substituted cyclopropyl carbenoid intermediates. Abstract:Conjugate addition of (E)-3-trimethylsilyl-1-propenylziroconocene to (E,E)-divinylketones in the presence of catalytic amount of CuBr.SMe 2 affords (E)-allylsilanes containing (E)-α,β-unsaturated carbonyl moiety under mild conditions with good yield. Abstract:An efficient and general copper(I)-catalyzed method for the synthesis of multi-substituted vinylsilanes is reported. Multi-substituted allenes with electron-withdrawing groups and propiolate derivatives reacted well with (dimethylphenylsilyl)boronic acid pinacol ester to afford silyl-substituted butenoate derivatives and β-silyl-substituted acrylate derivatives, respectively. The corresponding products could be obtained in moderate to high yields and with good to excellent stereoselectivities.

Abstract:Vinyl sulfones are important structural motifs with a wide range of applications in the biomedical field. Although the hydrosulfonylation of alkynes have provided straightforward strategies for the synthesis of vinyl sulfones, these methods still exhibit several drawbacks, such as the use of large amounts of transition metal catalysts or/and additional additives. Herein, we report an efficient and mild multicomponent reaction (MCR) for the preparation of vinyl sulfones by hydrosulfonylation of alkynes with the corresponding aryl diazonium salts, K2S2O5 and thiophenols at room temperature without any metal catalysts or additives. This transformation is the first example of thiophenols as hydrogen source reacting with vinyl radical with the advantages of high chemoselectivity and step-economy. Notably, the method is also applicable to alkyl alkynes circumventing the limitations of existing methods, and the gram-scale experiment proceeded smoothly to prove the practicality of the methodology.

Abstract:Cyclic sulfones have demonstrated important applications in drug discovery. However, the catalytic and enantioselective synthesis of chiral cyclic sulfones remains challenging. Herein, we develop nickel-catalyzed regiodivergent and enantioselective hydroalkylation of sulfolenes to streamline the synthesis of chiral alkyl cyclic sulfones. The method has broad scope and high functional group tolerance. The regioselectivity can be controlled by ligands only. A neutral PYROX ligand favors C3-alkylation whereas an anionic BOX ligand favors C2-alkylation. This control is kinetic in origin as the C2-bound Ni intermediates are always thermodynamically more stable. Reactivity study of a wide range of relevant Ni intermediates reveal a NiI/NiIII catalytic cycle with a NiII-H species as the resting state. The regio- and enantio-determining step is the insertion of this NiII-H species into 2-sulfolene. This work provides an efficient catalytic method for the synthesis of an important class of organic compounds and enhances the mechanistic understanding of Ni-catalyzed stereoselective hydroalkylation.

Abstract:The stereodefined and highly substituted vinylsilanes are essential building blocks for constructing complex organic molecules. Transition metal-mediated silylmetalation of alkynes was developed to overcome the limitations of conventional hydrosilylations; however, a very limited study was carried out to utilize transient vinylmetal species in cross-coupling reactions. Moreover, they produce syn-adduct, and the anti-selective cross-coupling is still unknown and highly desired. Silylzinc reagents are highly functional group tolerant, however, their synthesis from pyrophoric silyllithium and dissolved lithium salts hampers cross-coupling reactions. Our novel solid silylzinc reagents circumvent these constraints are employed in the anti-selective synthesis of vinylsilanes via a multi-component reaction involving Me3SiZnI, terminal alkynes, and activated alkyl halides. An intensive computational and experimental investigation of the mechanism reveals an equilibrium between the intermediate syn- and anti-adducts; the greater barrier at the single electron reduction of alkyl halides and the thermodynamic stability of the Ni(III) adduct determine the anti-selectivity.
