Abstract:A novel heterogeneous strong acid catalyst has been synthesized through the copolymerization of p -toluenesulfonic acid and paraformaldehyde with sulfuric acid as catalyst. The novel catalyst owns the strong acidity as much as 4.0 mmol/g, while Nafion and Amberlyst-15 only has the acidity of about 0.8 mmol/g. Furthermore, the catalyst possesses the advantages of the high thermal stability (200 °C) and low cost for the simple synthetic procedure. The catalytic activities of the novel catalyst were taken through esterification of acetic acid and ethanol and acetalization of benzolaldehyde and 1,2-ethandiol. The results showed that the novel catalyst showed much higher activities than the Amberlyst-15 and owned even the comparative activity to sulfuric acid, which made the catalyst hold great potential for the replacement of the traditional homogeneous catalyst for the green process.

Abstract:Asymmetric epoxidation of allylic and homoallylic amine derivatives catalyzed by Hf(IV)-bishydroxamic acid complexes is described. Under similar conditions, aldimine and ketimine produced oxaziridines. The sulfonyl group is demonstrated to be an effective directing group for these transformations.

Abstract:Developing an effective and selective catalyst for epoxide hydration under low water/epoxide ratios and atmos-pheric pressure is still a challenge. Through tuning the anion, azolate ILs with different basicities were used in the hydration of epoxides. The results showed that the basicity has a great effect on conversion and selectivity, where [Emim][Triz] exhibited high conversion and selectivity under 1 bar CO2, leading to the yield of 99%. Furthermore, these ionic liquids could be used four times and retain good catalytic activity. Spectroscopic investigations, isotope labeling experiments, and quantum chemical calculations indicated that high yield was derived from synergetic catalysis by an azolate ionic liquid, which was more favorable than the hydration process catalyzed by bromine and organic bases.

Abstract:An air-stable supported Cu(I) catalyst, CuI@PS-Phen, was designed and synthesized. CuI@PS-Phen can efficiently catalyze the click polymerization of diynes a and diazides b to produce soluble and thermally stable polytriazoles with high molecular weights ( M w up to 30800), and low copper residue content (down to 190 ppm) in high yields (up to 94.2%) under mild reaction conditions without the exclusion of oxygen.

Abstract:Substrate-directed enantioselective olefin epoxidation was limited to a few types of directing groups and relatively low catalyst activities. Herein, an expeditious asymmetric epoxidation protocol is reported for allylic amides and sulfonamides using a hafnium-BINAM-salen catalyst with high enantioselectivity and turnover frequency. Aryl carboxamides of allylic amines with a trisubstituted olefin motif were suitable substrates. Sequential intramolecular ring-opening in a one-pot reactor furnished highly enantiopure oxazoline alcohols. Crystallographic studies suggested the catalyst possessed a mononuclear cis-alpha configuration. Computational studies of the transition state indicated that this conversion underwent a substrate-directed pathway.

Abstract:The development of inexpensive and effective catalysts for the epoxidation of olefins to epoxides, key commodities for the chemical industry, is a continuing challenge. In this context, we present a supramolecular solution with the development of new host‐guest assemblies of sulfate ions and amidoammonium receptor cations that, for the first time, are shown to act as catalysts for olefin epoxidation by hydrogen peroxide under biphasic conditions. Analysis of the reaction mechanism shows that reactive and oxidizing peroxymonosulfate is formed in the organic phase. Furthermore, a variety of readily available precursors may be used to form the guest supramolecular cations, so enabling large scale synthesis of the catalysts while maintaining catalytic control and effectiveness.

Abstract:A solid acid catalyst has been prepared by grafting Boron trifluoride on mesoporous molecular sieve MCM-41 and characterized by XRD and FTIR techniques. The XRD and FTIR results indicated that the BF3 • Et2O interlocks with the silicon groups of MCM-41 surface to form strong solid acid. The solid acid catalyst would effectively promote the opening of epichlorohydrin with isobutanol to form 1-isobutoxy-3-chloropropanol, and showed a nice activity and selectivity.

Abstract:The supported boron trifluoride (BF3/HY) solid acid catalyst was synthesized, resulting in a uniform dispersion of BF3 on the HY support. The combination of Lewis acid center and hydroxyl group on the surface of HY made BF3/HY shown Brønsted acidity. Functioning as the microporous catalyst, remarkable catalytic efficiency in facilitating ring-opening of epoxides was detected, and different alkyl- and aryl-substituted aldehydes could be obtained with exceptional yields and selectivity. Furthermore, BF3/HY was easy to be separated from the reaction system and the recyclability of this catalytic material was proved by recycle experiments. Since the catalyst was safe, stable and exhibited excellent reactivity, it could be effectively utilized in the synthesis of valuable intermediates in chemical industry.

Abstract:We present the synthesis and characterization of a new Cu(I) complex supported on SBA‐15 as a catalyst for preparing anilines from the reaction of aryl halides with sodium azide. The SBA‐15 support was modified by treating it sequentially with (3‐aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES), cyanuric chloride, and 2‐aminothiazole (AT). The modified mesoporous silica, SBA‐15@BAT, was then treated with a CuI solution in acetonitrile to give SBA‐15@BAT‐Cu(I). The catalyst underwent thorough characterization using conventional methods. X‐Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis corroborated the presence of copper in the +1 oxidation state in the catalyst. The supported Cu(I) complex sufficiently catalyzed the amination reaction of iodo‐, bromo‐, and chloroarenes with NaN3. The catalyst was centrifuged, washed, and applied in the subsequent run. We investigated the effects of various reaction components and parameters to determine the optimal conditions for the reaction. The heterogeneous catalyst exhibited noticeable stability and was reused over seven runs with slight deactivation.
