Abstract:In this expository article we will summarize recent results on stability and Kähler manifolds of constant scalar curvature. We will see among other things that there is a family of integral invariants which includes obstructions to the existence of Kähler metrics of harmonic Chern forms and obstructions to asymptotic Chow semistability.

Abstract:We define a family of integral invariants containing those which are closely related to asymptotic Chow semi-stability of polarized manifolds. It also contains an obstruction to the existence of Kahler-Einstein metrics and its natural extensions by the author, Calabi and Bando as Kahlerian invariants and by Morita and the author as invariant polynomials of the automorphism groups of compact complex manifolds.

Abstract:The conformai properties of complex Finsler metrics are studied. We first give a characterization of a compact complex Finsler manifold to be globally conformai Kahler. By considering the total holomorphic curvature and total Ricci curvature in the volume preserved conformal classes, we then study the variational properties of Kahler Finsler metrics. By studying the spectral properties of two average metrics, the stabilities of critical Kähler Finsler metrics are verified. Finally, a Yamabe type problem for mean holomorphic Ricci curvature is considered, and a partial existence result is obtained.

Abstract:We prove the existence of Kahler-Einstein metric on a K-stable Fano manifold using the recent compactness result on Kahler-Ricci flows. The key ingredient is an algebro-geometric description of the asymptotic behavior of Kahler-Ricci flow on Fano manifolds. This is in turn based on a general finite dimensional discussion, which is interesting in its own and could potentially apply to other problems. As one application, we relate the asymptotics of the Calabi flow on a polarized Kahler manifold to K-stability assuming bounds on geometry.

Abstract:It is conjectured that the existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics will be equivalent to K-stability, or K-polystability depending on terminology (Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture). There is another GIT stability condition, called the asymptotic Chow polystability. This condition implies the existence of balanced metrics for polarized manifolds (M, L^k) for all large k. It is expected that the balanced metrics converge to a constant scalar curvature metric as k tends to infinity under further suitable stability conditions. In this survey article I will report on recent results saying that the asymptotic Chow polystability does not hold for certain constant scalar curvature Kähler manifolds. We also compare a paper of Ono with that of Della Vedova and Zuddas.

Abstract:Using spin$^c$ structure we prove that K\"ahler-Einstein metrics with nonpositive scalar curvature are stable (in the direction of changes in conformal structures) as the critical points of the total scalar curvature functional. Moreover if all infinitesimal complex deformation of the complex structure are integrable, then the K\"ahler-Einstein metric is a local maximal of the Yamabe invariant, and its volume is a local minimum among all metrics with scalar curvature bigger or equal to the scalar curvature of the K\"ahler-Einstein metric.

Abstract:In this paper we will perturb the scalar curvature of compact Kahler manifolds by incorporating it with higher Chern forms, and then show that the perturbed scalar curvature has many common properties with the unperturbed scalar curvature. In particular the perturbed scalar curvature becomes a moment map, with respect to a perturbed symplectic structure, on the space of all complex structures on a fixed symplectic manifold, which extends the results of Donaldson and Fujiki on the unperturbed case.

Abstract:Non Kähler Calabi Yau theory is a newly developed subject and it arises naturally in mathematical physics and generalized geometry. The relevant geometrics are pluriclosed metrics which are critical points of the generalized Einstein Hilbert action. In this work, we study the critical points of the generalized Einstein Hilbert action and discuss the stability of critical points which are defined as pluriclosed steady solitons. We proved that all Bismut Hermitian Einstein manifolds are linearly stable which generalizes the work from Tian, Zhu, Hall, Murphy and Koiso In addition, all Bismut flat pluriclosed steady solitons with positive Ricci curvature are linearly strictly stable.

Abstract:We prove the instability of conformally Kähler, compact or ALF Einstein 4-manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature which are not half conformally flat. This applies to all the known examples of gravitational instantons which are not hyperKähler and to the Chen-Lebrun-Weber metric in particular.

Abstract:In this expository article we review the problem of finding Einstein metrics on compact K\"ahler manifolds and Sasaki manifolds. In the former half of this article we see that, in the K\"ahler case, the problem fits better with the notion of stability in Geometric Invariant Theory if we extend the problem to that of finding extremal K\"ahler metrics or constant scalar curvature K\"ahler (cscK) metrics. In the latter half of this paper we see that most of ideas in K\"ahler geometry extend to Sasaki geometry as transverse K\"ahler geometry. We also summarize recent results about the existence of toric Sasaki-Einstein metrics.

Abstract:In this article we study an integral invariant which obstructs the existence on a compact complex manifold of a volume form with the determinant of its Ricci form proportional to itself, in particular obstructs the existence of a Kähler-Einstein metric, and has been studied since 1980s. We study this invariant from the view point of locally conformally Kähler geometry. We first see that we can define an integral invariant for coverings of compact complex manifolds with automorphic volume forms. This situation typically occurs for locally conformally Kähler manifolds. Secondly, we see that this invariant coincides with the former one. We also show that the invariant vanishes for any compact Vaisman manifold.

Abstract:These are the notes for lectures given at the Sanya winter school in complex analysis and geometry in January 2016. In Sec. 1, we review the meaning of Ricci curvature of Kähler metrics and introduce the problem of finding Kähler–Einstein metrics. In Sec. 2, we describe the formal picture that leads to the notion of K-stability of Fano manifolds, which is an algebro-geometric criterion for the existence of a Kähler–Einstein metric, by the recent result of Chen–Donaldson–Sun. In Sec. 3, we discuss algebraic structure on Gromov–Hausdorff limits, which is a key ingredient in the proof of the Kähler–Einstein result. In Sec. 4, we give a brief survey of the more recent work on tangent cones of singular Kähler–Einstein metrics arising from Gromov–Hausdorff limits, and the connections with algebraic geometry.

Abstract:We prove that a complete Kähler manifold with holomorphic curvature bounded between two negative constants admits a unique complete Kähler-Einstein metric. We also show this metric and the Kobayashi-Royden metric are both uniformly equivalent to the background Kähler metric. Furthermore, all three metrics are shown to be uniformly equivalent to the Bergman metric, if the complete Kähler manifold is simply-connected, with the sectional curvature bounded between two negative constants. In particular, we confirm two conjectures of R. E. Greene and H. Wu posted in 1979.

Abstract:In this article we develop a new approach to the problem of the stability of locally conformally Kähler structures (l.c.k structures) under small deformations of complex structures and deformations of flat line bundles. We show that under the certain cohomological condition the stability of l.c.k structures does hold. We apply our approach to Hopf manifolds and its generalizations to obtain the stability of l.c.k structures which do not have potential in general. We give an explicit description of the cohomological obstructions of the stability of l.c.k structures on Inoue surfaces with $b_2=0$.
