Abstract:The conformai properties of complex Finsler metrics are studied. We first give a characterization of a compact complex Finsler manifold to be globally conformai Kahler. By considering the total holomorphic curvature and total Ricci curvature in the volume preserved conformal classes, we then study the variational properties of Kahler Finsler metrics. By studying the spectral properties of two average metrics, the stabilities of critical Kähler Finsler metrics are verified. Finally, a Yamabe type problem for mean holomorphic Ricci curvature is considered, and a partial existence result is obtained.

Stability, integral invariants and canonical kähler metrics

Abstract:In this expository article we will summarize recent results on stability and Kähler manifolds of constant scalar curvature. We will see among other things that there is a family of integral invariants which includes obstructions to the existence of Kähler metrics of harmonic Chern forms and obstructions to asymptotic Chow semistability.

Abstract:We prove that a complete Kähler manifold with holomorphic curvature bounded between two negative constants admits a unique complete Kähler-Einstein metric. We also show this metric and the Kobayashi-Royden metric are both uniformly equivalent to the background Kähler metric. Furthermore, all three metrics are shown to be uniformly equivalent to the Bergman metric, if the complete Kähler manifold is simply-connected, with the sectional curvature bounded between two negative constants. In particular, we confirm two conjectures of R. E. Greene and H. Wu posted in 1979.

Abstract:Given a polarized Kähler manifold (X,L). The space ℋ of Kähler metrics in $$ 2_\Pi {c_1}{(L)}$$ is an infinite-dimensional Riemannian symmetric space. As a metric space, it has non-positive curvature. There is associated to ℋ a sequence of finite-dimensional symmetric spaces $$ \mathcal{B}_{k}{({k}\, \epsilon \,\mathbb{N})} $$ of non-compact Type. We prove that ℋ is the limit of $$ \mathcal{B}_{k} $$ as metric spaces in certain sense. As applications, this provides more geometric proofs of certain known geometric properties of the space ℋ.

Abstract:International Journal of Mathematics, Ahead of Print. Given a compact almost complex manifold [math], the almost complex invariant [math] is defined as the complex dimension of the cohomology space [math]. Its properties have been studied mainly when [math]. If we endow [math] with an almost Hermitian metric [math], then the number [math], i.e. the complex dimension of the space of Hodge–de Rham harmonic [math]-forms, does not depend on the choice of almost Kähler metrics when [math]. In this paper, we study the relationship between [math] and [math] in dimension [math]. We prove [math] if [math] is non-integrable and observe that [math] if the metric is almost Kähler. If [math] is a compact quotient of a completely solvable Lie group and [math] is a left-invariant almost Kähler structure on [math], we prove [math]. Finally, we study the [math]-pure and [math]-full properties of [math] on [math]-forms for the special dimension [math].

Abstract:These are the notes for lectures given at the Sanya winter school in complex analysis and geometry in January 2016. In Sec. 1, we review the meaning of Ricci curvature of Kähler metrics and introduce the problem of finding Kähler–Einstein metrics. In Sec. 2, we describe the formal picture that leads to the notion of K-stability of Fano manifolds, which is an algebro-geometric criterion for the existence of a Kähler–Einstein metric, by the recent result of Chen–Donaldson–Sun. In Sec. 3, we discuss algebraic structure on Gromov–Hausdorff limits, which is a key ingredient in the proof of the Kähler–Einstein result. In Sec. 4, we give a brief survey of the more recent work on tangent cones of singular Kähler–Einstein metrics arising from Gromov–Hausdorff limits, and the connections with algebraic geometry.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the “interpolation–degeneration” strategy to study Kähler–Einstein metrics on a smooth Fano manifold with cone singularities along a smooth divisor that is proportional to the anti-canonical divisor. By “interpolation” we show the angles in (0, 2π] that admit a conical Kähler–Einstein metric form a connected interval, and by “degeneration” we determine the boundary of the interval in some important cases. As a first application, we show that there exists a Kähler–Einstein metric on ${\mathbb{P}^2}$ with cone singularity along a smooth conic (degree 2) curve if and only if the angle is in (π/2, 2π]. When the angle is 2π/3 this proves the existence of a Sasaki–Einstein metric on the link of a three dimensional A 2 singularity, and thus answers a question posed by Gauntlett–Martelli–Sparks–Yau. As a second application we prove a version of Donaldson’s conjecture about conical Kähler–Einstein metrics in the toric case using Song–Wang’s recent existence result of toric invariant conical Kähler–Einstein metrics.

Abstract:In this article we study an integral invariant which obstructs the existence on a compact complex manifold of a volume form with the determinant of its Ricci form proportional to itself, in particular obstructs the existence of a Kähler-Einstein metric, and has been studied since 1980s. We study this invariant from the view point of locally conformally Kähler geometry. We first see that we can define an integral invariant for coverings of compact complex manifolds with automorphic volume forms. This situation typically occurs for locally conformally Kähler manifolds. Secondly, we see that this invariant coincides with the former one. We also show that the invariant vanishes for any compact Vaisman manifold.

Abstract:This paper, the second of a series, deals with the function space R of all smooth Kahler metrics in any given n-dimensional, closed complex manifold V, these metrics being restricted to a given, fixed, real cohomology class, called a polarization of V. This function space is equipped with a pre-Hilbert metric structure introduced by T. Mabuchi [10], who also showed that, formally, this metric has nonpositive curvature. In the first paper of this series [4], the second author showed that the same space is a path length space. He also proved that 7 is geodesically convex in the sense that, for any two points of H, there is a unique geodesic path joining them, which is always length minimizing and of class C-1,C-1. This partially verifies two conjectures of Donaldson [8] on the subject. In the present paper, we show first of all, that the space is, as expected, a path length space of nonpositive curvature in the sense of A. D. Aleksandrov. A second result is related to the theory of extremal Kahler metrics, namely that the gradient flow in H of the "K energy" of V has the property that it strictly decreases the length of all paths in H, except those induced by one parameter families of holomorphic automorphisms of M.

Abstract:We establish the unique complete Kahler-Einstein metric with negative scalar curvature on a broad class of complete Kahler manifolds, including those manifolds whose covering space can be biholomorphically embedded into a Kahler manifold with holomorphic sectional curvature bounded above by a negative constant. We further present several new examples of complete noncompact Kahler-Einstein manifolds, generated by the results.

Abstract:In this paper we generalize the definition of the FKMM-invariant introduced in [DG2] for the case of "Quaternionic" vector bundles over involutive base spaces endowed with free involution or with a non-finite fixed-point set. In [DG2] it has already be shown how the FKMM-invariant provides a cohomological description of the Fu-Kane-Mele index used to classify topological insulators in class AII. It follows that the FKMM-invariant described in this paper provides a cohomological generalization of the Fu-Kane-Mele index which is applicable to the classification of protected phases for other type of topological quantum systems (TQS) which are not necesarily related to models for topological insulators (e.g. the two-dimensional models of adiabatically perturbed systems discussed in [GR]). As a byproduct we provide the complete classification of "Quaternionic" vector bundles over a big class of low dimensional involutive spheres and tori.

Abstract:We introduce a new holomorphic invariant on any compact Kahler manifolds with positive first Chern class and nontrivial holomorphic vector fields, which contains the Futaki invariant as a special case. This invariant is shown to be an obstruction to the existence of Kahler-Ricci solitons. By solving a complex Monge-Ampere equation, we prove the uniqueness of Kahler-Ricci solitons. Abstract:Let M be a connected compact KaÈhler manifold. An obvious necessary condition for M to admit a KaÈhler-Einstein metric is that the ®rst Chern class c1M is either negative, zero or positive, where a real 2-dimensional de Rham cohomology class is said to be negative (resp. positive) if it is represented by a negative (resp. positive) de®nite 1; 1-form. Conversely, if c1M is negative or zero then M admits a KaÈhler-Einstein metric by the solution to the Calabi conjectures (Aubin [1], Yau [21]). In the remaining case where c1M is positive, in which case M is often called a Fano manifold, there are further necessary conditions. First of all the Lie algebra hM of all holomorphic vector ®elds on a KaÈhler-Einstein Fano manifold M is reductive (Matsushima [14]). Secondly a Lie algebra character f : hM ! C introduced in [10] must vanish on a KaÈhler-Einstein Fano manifold. It was also proven by Bando-Mabuchi [5] that if M admits a KaÈhlerEinstein metric then certain functional, called K-energy, of M is bounded from below. This analytic necessary condition played a theoretically important role in the later studies. In fact Ding and Tian [9] extended the results of [10] and [5] to obtain a necessary condition applicable to manifolds which do not carry any non-zero holomorphic vector ®elds. Tian [20] further extended these ideas to de®ne certain notions of stability, called K-stability and CM-stability, and presented an example of a Fano manifold with no non-zero holomorphic vector ®elds and no KaÈhler-Einstein metrics. On the other hand there are known su1⁄2cient conditions for the existence of positive KaÈhler-Einstein metrics by Aubin [2], Ding [8], Siu [17], Tian [18] and Nadel [15]. Now one would hope to have a necessary and su1⁄2cient condition for the existence of positive KaÈhler-Einstein metrics. To state such a condition, Tian [20] introduced a notion of properness for the K-energy and a functional introduced by Ding [8]. Abstract:We focus on the classical open problem of the classification of Kähler-Einstein manifolds that can be Kähler immersed into a complex projective space endowed with the Fubini-Study metric. In particular, we will deal with such problem in the special case of Kähler- Einstein metrics admitting symmetries of rotational type. This leads to certain integrable distributions allowing a classification of such metrics.

Abstract:In this paper, a new holomorphic invariant is defined on a compact Kähler manifold with positive first Chern class and nontrivial holomorphic vector fields. This invariant generalizes the Futaki invariant. We prove that this invariant is an obstruction to the existence of Kähler-Ricci solitons. In particular, using this invariant together with the main result in [TZ1], we solve completely the uniqueness problem of Kähler-Ricci solitons. Two functionals associated to the new holomorphic invariant are also discussed. The main result here was announced in [TZ2].
