Abstract:This simulation study presents a process based on plasma gasifiers for hydrogen (H 2 ) production while also producing high-value-added products carbon nanotubes (CNTs) from biomass and waste plastics. To assess the efficacy of this process, Aspen Plus V12 was employed. The accuracy of the model was confirmed through comparison with other experiments and calculations, yielding a root mean square error (RSME) of 6% and 3%, respectively. Based on this model, parameters of H 2 production are studied, and the process of energy, efficiency, and environment (3-E) are analyzed. At optimal operational parameters, such as the gasifier being 1000°C, the reformer being 800°C, the steam to feedstocks ratio (S/F) of the gasifier being 0.6, S/F of the reformer being 0.5, and plastics to biomass ratio (P/B) being 0.25, a maximum H 2 content of 73.3% could be attained. Following that, 3-E analysis shows that the energy utilization efficiency is 57.8%, the conversion efficiency of H is 75.6%, and the specific CO 2 emission rate of this system is only 234.9 kg MWh −1 . Overall, the proposed model can give significant information for large-scale gasifier and H 2 production unit design, operation, commercial applications, and optimization with respect to feedstock composition.
