Abstract:In this paper, the suppression effect of CO2-O-2 jets on the combustion instability in a swirled non-premixed combustor was experimentally investigated. The CO2-O-2 microjets were injected into the liquid-fuel flame at different axial heights with different flow rates and mixing ratios. The results show that the larger the jet flow rate, the more obvious the attenuation of combustion instability. At the same time, the concentration of nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions decreased. The amplitudes of dynamic pressure and heat release rate reduced by 74% and 83%, respectively, when CO2-O-2 jets were injected into the flame root at a flow rate of 12 L/min. Besides, the jets hardly changed the dominant frequency of combustion instability. Increased CO2 volume ratio in the jet blend decreased the NOx emissions. NOx decreased from 11.8 ppm to 7.0 ppm when 80% vol. of CO2-O-2 was injected to the flame root. Injecting CO2-O-2 into the flame root has the best comprehensive control effect on unstable combustion and NOx emissions. At the same time, it was found that jets barely changed the flame shape, however, the combustion was stable. This research may help to the design of safe and clean non-premixed liquid-fueled combustors. (C) 2021 Published by Elsevier Ltd on behalf of Energy Institute.
