Abstract:We solve a motivic version of the Adams conjecture with the exponential characteristic of the base field inverted. In the way of the proof we show that the higher motivic stable stems are of bounded torsion and obtain a motivic version of mod k Dold theorem. We also give a motivic version of Brown's trick studying the homogeneous variety of maximal tori in a general linear group, which turns out to be not stably A1-connected.

Stable Comodule Deformations and the Synthetic Adams-Novikov Spectral Sequence

Abstract:We study the Adams-Novikov spectral sequence in $\mathbb{F}_p$-synthetic spectra, computing the synthetic analogs of $\mathrm{BP}$ and its cooperations to identify the synthetic Adams-Novikov $\mathrm{E}_2$-page, computed in a range with a synthetic algebraic Novikov spectral sequence. We then identify deformations associated to the Cartan-Eilenberg and algebraic Novikov spectral sequences in terms of stable comodule categories, categorifying an algebraic Novikov spectral sequence result of Gheorghe-Wang-Xu. We then apply Isaksen-Wang-Xu methods in $\mathbb{F}_p$-synthetic spectra to deduce differentials in the synthetic Adams-Novikov for the sphere, producing almost entirely algebraic computations through the 45-stem.

Abstract:For each prime $p$, we define a $t$-structure on the category $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau\text{-}\mathbf{Mod}_{harm}^b$ of harmonic $\mathbb{C}$-motivic left module spectra over $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau$, whose MGL-homology has bounded Chow-Novikov degree, such that its heart is equivalent to the abelian category of $p$-completed $BP_*BP$-comodules that are concentrated in even degrees. We prove that $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau\text{-}\mathbf{Mod}_{harm}^b$ is equivalent to $\mathcal{D}^b({{BP}_*{BP}\text{-}\mathbf{Comod}}^{ev})$ as stable $\infty$-categories equipped with $t$-structures. As an application, for each prime $p$, we prove that the motivic Adams spectral sequence for $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau$, which converges to the motivic homotopy groups of $\widehat{S^{0,0}}/\tau$, is isomorphic to the algebraic Novikov spectral sequence, which converges to the classical Adams-Novikov $E_2$-page for the sphere spectrum $\widehat{S^0}$. This isomorphism of spectral sequences allows Isaksen and the second and third authors to compute the stable homotopy groups of spheres at least to the 90-stem, with ongoing computations into even higher dimensions.

Abstract:We show a few nontrivial extensions in the classical Adams spectral sequence. In particular, we compute that the 2-primary part of $\pi_{51}$ is $\mathbb{Z}/8\oplus\mathbb{Z}/8\oplus\mathbb{Z}/2$. This was the last unsolved 2-extension problem left by the recent works of Isaksen and the authors (\cite{Isa1}, \cite{IX}, \cite{WX1}) through the 61-stem. The proof of this result uses the $RP^\infty$ technique, which was introduced by the authors in \cite{WX1} to prove $\pi_{61}=0$. This paper advertises this method through examples that have simpler proofs than in \cite{WX1}.

Abstract:Explicit extensions representing cocycles $x \in Ext_{A}^{s,t}(F_2,F_2)$ are useful in calculating Steenrod operations $Sq^i : Ext_{A}^{s,t}(F_2,F_2) \longrightarrow Ext_{A}^{s+i,2t}(F_2,F_2)$ by a method devised by the second author. This can be used to identify explicit cocycles in the minimal resolutions produced by the first author's computer programs, and this information is useful in determining differentials in the Adams spectral sequence.
Minimal resolutions of Iwasawa modules

Abstract:In this paper, we study the module-theoretic structure of classical Iwasawa modules. More precisely, for a finite abelian $p$-extension $K/k$ of totally real fields and the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension $K_{\infty}/K$, we consider $X_{K_{\infty},S}={\rm Gal}(M_{K_{\infty},S}/K_{\infty})$ where $S$ is a finite set of places of $k$ containing all ramifying places in $K_{\infty}$ and archimedean places, and $M_{K_{\infty},S}$ is the maximal abelian pro-$p$-extension of $K_{\infty}$ unramified outside $S$. We give lower and upper bounds of the minimal numbers of generators and of relations of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_p[[{\rm Gal}(K_{\infty}/k)]]$-module, using the $p$-rank of ${\rm Gal}(K/k)$. This result explains the complexity of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_p[[{\rm Gal}(K_{\infty}/k)]]$-module when the $p$-rank of ${\rm Gal}(K/k)$ is large. Moreover, we prove an analogous theorem in the setting that $K/k$ is non-abelian. We also study the Iwasawa adjoint of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$, and the minus part of the unramified Iwasawa module for a CM-extension. In order to prove these theorems, we systematically study the minimal resolutions of $X_{K_{\infty},S}$.

Combinatorial Bounds in Distal Structures

Abstract:We provide polynomial upper bounds for the minimal sizes of distal cell decompositions in several kinds of distal structures, particularly weakly $o$-minimal and $P$-minimal structures. The bound in general weakly $o$-minimal structures generalizes the vertical cell decomposition for semialgebraic sets, and the bounds for vector spaces in both $o$-minimal and $p$-adic cases are tight. We apply these bounds to Zarankiewicz's problem and sum-product bounds in distal structures.

Stable Bases of the Springer Resolution and Representation Theory

Abstract:In this expository note, we review the recent developments about Maulik and Okounkov’s stable bases for the Springer resolution \documentclass[12pt]{minimal}\usepackage{amsmath}\usepackage{wasysym}\usepackage{amsfonts}\usepackage{amssymb}\usepackage{amsbsy}\usepackage{mathrsfs}\usepackage{upgreek}\setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt}\begin{document}$$T^*(G/B)$$\end{document}. In the cohomology case, we compute the action of the graded affine Hecke algebra on the stable basis, which is used to obtain the localization formulae. We further identify the stable bases with the Chern–Schwartz–MacPherson classes of the Schubert cells. This relation is used to prove the positivity conjecture of Aluffi and Mihalcea. For the K theory stable basis, we first compute the action of the affine Hecke algebra on it, which is used to deduce the localization formulae via root polynomial method. Similar as the cohomology case, they are also identified with the motivic Chern classes of the Schubert cells. This identification is used to prove the Bump–Nakasuji–Naruse conjecture about the unramified principal series of the Langlands dual group over non-Archimedean local fields. In the end, we study the wall R-matrices, which relate stable bases for different alcoves. As an application, we give a categorification of the stable bases via the localization of Lie algebras over positive characteristic fields.

Abstract:For and , let denote the complex moduli stack of n-marked smooth hyperelliptic curves of genus g. A normal crossings compactification of this space is provided by the theory of pointed admissible -covers. We explicitly determine the resulting dual complex, and we use this to define a graph complex which computes the weight zero compactly supported cohomology of . Using this graph complex, we give a sum-over-graphs formula for the -equivariant weight zero compactly supported Euler characteristic of . This formula allows for the computer-aided calculation, for each , of the generating function for these equivariant Euler characteristics for all n. More generally, we determine the dual complex of the boundary in any moduli space of pointed admissible G-covers of genus zero curves, when G is abelian, as a symmetric -complex. We use these complexes to generalize our formula for to moduli spaces of n-pointed smooth abelian covers of genus zero curves.

Abstract:First, I will quickly recall some of the basic elements of the minimal model program. Then, I concentrate on the interactions between the minimal model program and some moduli problems. In particular, I explain the construction of moduli spaces of varieties of general type via the minimal model program. Abstract. The Hecke symmetry is a salient feature of Shimura varieties. In the more recent past these symmetries have led to the notion of leaves, a global structure on the reduction of modular varieties of PEL type defined by Oort, and conjecturally for all Shimura varieties with good reduction. The Hecke symmetry also led to the notion of canonical coordinates on leaves, generalizing the classical Serre-Tate coordinates. We will discuss some recent works related to the Hecke symmetry : (1) -adic and p-adic monodromy of leaves, and irreducibility of leaves (joint work with F. Oort). One of the methods for showing that the p-adic monodromy is big is inspired by H. Hida. (2) CM lifting modulo Hecke symmetry (joint work with B. Conrad and F. Oort). Abstract. In this lecture we explain how to attach a p-adic representation to a vector bundle with strongly semistable reduction of degree zero on a p-adic curve. We also discuss higher dimensional generalizations. This is a report on joint work with Annette Werner. Abstract. Since the proof of Iwasawa's main conjecture in the classical case (the- orem of Mazur and Wiles), automorphic forms on GL(2) have played an essential role to understand GL(1)-problems. After the breakthrough by A. Wiles ((1)), there has been a substantial progress in the class field theory for GL2. In this talk, open problems in classical Iwasawa theory are discussed from this perspective, based on Galois deformations.

Abstract:The o-minimal structure generated by the restricted Pfaffian functions, known as restricted sub-Pfaffian sets, admits a natural measure of complexity in terms of a format $\mathcal{F}$, recording information like the number of variables and quantifiers involved in the definition of the set, and a degree $D$ recording the degrees of the equations involved. Khovanskii and later Gabrielov and Vorobjov have established many effective estimates for the geometric complexity of sub-Pfaffian sets in terms of these parameters. It is often important in applications that these estimates are polynomial in $D$. Despite much research done in this area, it is still not known whether cell decomposition, the foundational operation of o-minimal geometry, preserves polynomial dependence on $D$. We slightly modify the usual notions of format and degree and prove that with these revised notions this does in fact hold. As one consequence we also obtain the first polynomial (in $D$) upper bounds for the sum of Betti numbers of sets defined using quantified formulas in the restricted sub-Pfaffian structure.

On the Computation of the Cohomological Invariants of Bott–Samelson Resolutions of Schubert Varieties

Abstract:Let be a Schubert variety in a flag manifold and let be a Bott–Samelson resolution of X . In this paper, we prove an effective version of the decomposition theorem for the derived pushforward . As a by-product, we obtain recursive procedure to extract Kazhdan–Lusztig polynomials from the polynomials introduced by Deodhar [ 7 ], which does not require prior knowledge of a minimal set. We also observe that any family of equivariant resolutions of Schubert varieties allows to define a new basis in the Hecke algebra and we show a way to compute the transition matrix, from the Kazhdan–Lusztig basis to the new one.

Minimal Attached Primes of Local Cohomology Modules of Binomial Edge Ideals of Block Graphs

Abstract:We calculate the minimal attached primes of the local cohomology modules of the binomial edge ideals of block graphs. In particular, we obtain a combinatorial characterisation of which of these modules are non-vanishing. We also show that the main result of this paper follows from a recent result of Lax, Rinaldo, and Romeo (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2405.08671" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2405.08671">arXiv:2405.08671</a>, Theorem 3.2), which was published independently during the writing of this paper. This provides a short alternative proof of our result.

Abstract:We present a deterministic algorithm for computing spaces of weight 1 modular forms with exotic representations. This algorithm is an improved version of Schaeffer's Hecke stability method, utilising the author's previous work on the twist-minimal trace formula for weight 2 holomorphic forms, and presenting a method of lifting forms from characteristic p. The algorithm was used to compute all such forms with level at most 10,000. Together with Sutherland's computation of dihedral forms, this allows us to present the dimensions of all weight 1 newform spaces up to level 10,000.

Abstract:We study ways to expedite Yates's algorithm for computing the zeta and Moebius transforms of a function defined on the subset lattice. We develop a trimmed variant of Moebius inversion that proceeds point by point, finishing the calculation at a subset before considering its supersets. For an $n$-element universe $U$ and a family $\scr F$ of its subsets, trimmed Moebius inversion allows us to compute the number of packings, coverings, and partitions of $U$ with $k$ sets from $\scr F$ in time within a polynomial factor (in $n$) of the number of supersets of the members of $\scr F$. Relying on an intersection theorem of Chung et al. (1986) to bound the sizes of set families, we apply these ideas to well-studied combinatorial optimisation problems on graphs of maximum degree $\Delta$. In particular, we show how to compute the Domatic Number in time within a polynomial factor of $(2^{\Delta+1-2)^{n/(\Delta+1)$ and the Chromatic Number in time within a polynomial factor of $(2^{\Delta+1-\Delta-1)^{n/(\Delta+1)$. For any constant $\Delta$, these bounds are $O\bigl((2-\epsilon)^n\bigr)$ for $\epsilon>0$ independent of the number of vertices $n$.

Abstract:The moduli space of stable rational curves with marked points has two distinguished families of maps: the forgetful maps, given by forgetting some of the markings, and the Kapranov maps, given by complete linear series of $\psi$-classes. The collection of all these maps embeds the moduli space into a product of projective spaces. We call the multidegrees of this embedding ``Kapranov degrees,'' which include as special cases the work of Witten, Silversmith, Gallet--Grasegger--Schicho, Castravet--Tevelev, Postnikov, Cavalieri--Gillespie--Monin, and Gillespie--Griffins--Levinson. We establish, in terms of a combinatorial matching condition, upper bounds for Kapranov degrees and a characterization of their positivity. The positivity characterization answers a question of Silversmith and gives a new proof of Laman's theorem characterizing generically rigid graphs in the plane. We achieve this by proving a recursive formula for Kapranov degrees and by using tools from the theory of error correcting codes.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe a novel way of identifying Adams spectral sequence $E_2$-terms in terms of homological algebra of quiver representations. Our method applies much more broadly than the standard techniques based on descent-flatness, bearing on a varied array of ring spectra. In the particular case of $p$-local integral homology, we are able to give a decomposition of the $E_2$-term, describing it completely in terms of the classical Adams spectral sequence. In the appendix, which can be read independently from the main body of the text, we develop functoriality of deformations of $\infty$-categories of the second author and Patchkoria.
