Abstract:In this paper, a low-cost repeaterless transmission system is demonstrated at 10Gbit/s using two Sampled Chirped fiber Bragg gratings (SCBG) to realize the dispersion compensation of 210km transmission over G652 single-mode fiber (SSMF). The two SCBGs are used as dispersion management components to mitigate the damage caused by the pulse broadening effort before the receiver terminal. Non-return-to-zero (NRZ) modulation format is adopted and EDFAs as boost amplifier and pre-amplifiers in this system. Low-gain Raman amplifier is used to improve the signal noise ratio (SNR) at the end of the transmission fiber.

Abstract:Using directly modulated lasers (DMLs), avalanche photodiode (APD) receivers, and all-Raman amplification, error-free repeaterless WDM transmission of eight C-band channels at 2.5 Gbit/s over 300 km of standard singlemode fibre (SSMF) span (63.5 dB span loss) is reported. Uncorrected BERs better 10(-10) were achieved for all eight channels with power penalty similar to5.5 dB for the worst channel.

Abstract:We report on the transmission of 40-Gb/s alternate-mark-inversion return-to-zero (RZ-AMI) signals over more than 2600 km (20 x 100 km) of nonzero dispersion fiber at a bit-error ratio of 10(-9). The RZ-AMI signal is generated using a single, non-return-to-zero-driven modulator in combination with an optical delay interferometer. This transmitter allowed for a 40-Gb/s record receiver sensitivity of 78 photons/bit.

Abstract:Based on the practicability issue, using the standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) in the transmission line is important for high-speed optical transmission. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a 640-km SSMF-based high-speed dense wavelength-division-multiplexing (160times114 Gb/s) transmission system in 25-GHz channel spacing employing polarization-division-multiplexing return-to-zero (RZ) eight quadrature amplitude modulation format and digital coherent detection. The filtering effects for RZ and nonreturn-to-zero formats have also been probed in this investigation. For all 160 channels (1530-1560 nm, cover the whole C-band), the bit-error rate is smaller than 2times10-3 without Raman amplification, optical dispersion compensation, and any special fiber in this straight-line slink.

Abstract:We have transmitted a 7 x 224 Gb/s/ch Nyquist wavelength-division-multiplexed signal over a 1600-km conventional single-mode fiber (SMF-28) with 80 km per span and an erbium-doped fiber amplifier-only amplification. Each channel on the 50-GHz grid is modulated using polarization-division-multiplexed quadrature-phase-shift-keying at 56 Gbaud giving a record spectral efficiency of 4 b/s/Hz. Both the post filter and the Viterbi maximum likelihood sequence detection are introduced into digital signal processing, to suppress the undesired noise, linear crosstalk enhancement, and filtering effects. The bit error ratio of all channels after transmission over a 1600-km SMF-28 is smaller than the forward error correction limit of 3.8x10(-3).
