Abstract:We show that if G is an amenable group acting on a dendrite X, then the restriction of G to any minimal set K is equicontinuous, and K is either finite or homeomorphic to the Cantor set.

Abstract:Let $\Gamma$ be a higher rank lattice acting on a nondegenerate dendrite $X$ with no infinite order points. We show that there exists a nondegenerate subdendrite $Y$ which is $\Gamma$-invariant and satisfies the following items: (1) There is an inverse system of finite actions $\{(Y_i, \Gamma):i=1,2,3,\cdots\}$ with monotone bonding maps $\phi_i: Y_{i+1}\rightarrow Y_i$ and with each $Y_i$ being a dendrite, such that $(Y, \Gamma|Y)$ is topologically conjugate to the inverse limit $(\underset{\longleftarrow}{\lim}(Y_i, \Gamma), \Gamma)$. (2) The first point map $r:X\rightarrow Y$ is a factor map from $(X, \Gamma)$ to $(Y, \Gamma|Y)$; if $x\in X\setminus Y$, then $r(x)$ is an end point of $Y$ with infinite orbit; for each $y\in Y$, $r^{-1}(y)$ is contractible, that is there is a sequence $g_i\in \Gamma$ with ${\rm diam}(g_ir^{-1}(y))\rightarrow 0$.

Abstract:Let X be a compact metric space, G be a countable discrete infinite amenable group continuously acting on X and F be a Følner sequence of G . In this paper, we acquire some ergodic properties of the discrete amenable group action (X,G) . By virtue of these properties, we prove the existence of syndetic sensitivity of the minimal F -centre of attraction of a point x∈X provided that the minimal F -centre of attraction of x is not S -generic and admits a dense set of quasi-weakly almost periodic points relative to F of (X,G) . The presented results enhance some main results of [Z. Chen and X. Dai, Chaotic dynamics of minimal centre of attraction of discrete amenable group actions , J. Math. Anal. Appl. 456 (2017), pp. 1397–1414.].

Abstract:Based on a fixed point theorem by Shi and Ye for amenable group actions on dendrites, we show that if X is a Peano continuum having the property that for any there are only finitely many circles in X with diameters , then there exists no expansive polycyclic group action on X . As a corollary, we obtain that local dendrites and Peano continua containing no -curves admit no expansive polycyclic group actions.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a compact metric space and $G$ a finitely generated group. Suppose $\phi:G\rightarrow {\rm Homeo}(X)$ is a continuous action. We show that if $\phi$ is both distal and expansive, then $X$ must be finite. A counterexample is constructed to show the necessity of finite generation condition on $G$. This is also a supplement to a result due to Auslander-Glasner-Weiss which says that every distal action by a finitely generated group on a zero-dimensional compactum is equicontinuous.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a countable discrete group. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a transitive $G$-system to be disjoint with all minimal $G$-systems, which implies that if a transitive $G$-system is disjoint with all minimal $G$-systems, then it is $\infty$-transitive, i.e. $(X^k,G)$ is transitive for all $k\in\N$, and has dense minimal points. In addition, we show that any $\infty$-transitive $G$-system with dense distal points are disjoint with all minimal $G$-systems.

Abstract:The weak mean equicontinuity for a countable discrete amenable group G acting continuously on a compact metrizable space X is studied. It is shown that weak mean equicontinuity, continuously pointwise ergodicity and uniformity are coincided. Moreover, we prove that ( X , G ) is mean equicontinuous if and only if the product system is weak mean equicontinuous.

Abstract:This article takes the inspiration from two milestones in the study of non minimal actions of groups on the circle: Duminy's theorem about the number of ends of semi-exceptional leaves and Ghys' freeness result in analytic regularity. Our first result concerns groups of analytic diffeomorphisms with infinitely many ends: if the action is non expanding, then the group is virtually free. The second result is a Duminy's theorem for minimal codimension one foliations: either non expandable leaves have infinitely many ends, or the holonomy pseudogroup preserves a projective structure.

Abstract:We study the definable topological dynamics (G(M),SG(M)) of a definable group acting on its type space, where M is either an o-minimal structure or a p-adically closed field, and G a definably amenable group. We focus on the problem raised in [13] of whether weakly generic types coincide with almost periodic types, showing that the answer is positive when G has boundedly many global weakly generic types. We also give two “minimal counterexamples” where G has unboundedly many global weakly generic types, extending the main results in [21] to a more general context.

Abstract:Let G be an infinite countable amenable group and P a polyhedron with the topological dimension dim ⁡ ( P ) < ∞ . We construct a minimal subshift (X, G) of ( P G , G ) such that its mean topological dimension is equal to dim ⁡ ( P ) . This result answers the question of Dou (2017 Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 37 1411–24). Moreover, it extends the work of Jin and Qiao (2023 arXiv:2102.10339) for Z -action.

Abstract:We study the rigidity in the sense of Zimmer for higher rank lattice actions on dendrites and show that: (1) if $\Gamma$ is a higher rank lattice and $X$ is a nondegenerate dendrite with no infinite order points, then any action of $\Gamma$ on $X$ cannot be almost free; (2) if $\Gamma$ is further a finite index subgroup of $SL_n(\mathbb Z)$ with $n\geq 3$, then every action of $\Gamma$ on $X$ has a nontrivial almost finite subsystem. During the proof, we get a new characterization of the left-orderability of a finitely generated group through its actions on dendrites.

Abstract:In the first part of this work we have established an efficient method to obtain a topological classification of locally discrete, finitely generated, virtually free subgroups of real-analytic circle diffeomorphisms. In this second part we describe several consequences, among which the solution (within this setting) to an old conjecture by P. R. Dippolito [Ann. Math. 107 (1978), 403-453] that actions with invariant Cantor sets must be semi-conjugate to piecewise linear actions. In addition, we exhibit examples of locally discrete, minimal actions which are not of Fuchsian type.

Abstract:Reid-Smith recently parametrised groups acting on trees with Tits' independence property (P) using graph-based combinatorial structures known as local action diagrams. Properties of the acting (topological) group, such as being locally compact, compactly generated or simple, are reflected in its local action diagram. In this article we provide necessary and sufficient conditions on the local action diagram for the associated group to be discrete.

Amenable actions of compact and discrete quantum groups on von Neumann algebras

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{G}$ be a compact quantum group and $A\subseteq B$ an inclusion of $\sigma$-finite $\mathbb{G}$-dynamical von Neumann algebras. We prove that the $\mathbb{G}$-inclusion $A\subseteq B$ is strongly equivariantly amenable if and only if it is equivariantly amenable, using techniques from the theory of non-commutative $L^p$-spaces. In particular, if $(A, \alpha)$ is a $\mathbb{G}$-dynamical von Neumann algebra with $A$ $\sigma$-finite, the action $\alpha: A \curvearrowleft \mathbb{G}$ is strongly (inner) amenable if and only if the action $\alpha: A \curvearrowleft \mathbb{G}$ is (inner) amenable. By duality, we also obtain the same result for $\mathbb{G}$ a discrete quantum group, so that, in particular, a discrete quantum group is inner amenable if and only it is strongly inner amenable. This result can be seen as a dynamical generalization of Tomatsu's result on the amenability/co-amenability duality. We also provide the first explicit examples of amenable discrete quantum groups that act non-amenably on a von Neumann algebra.

Abstract:Let $G$ be an infinite residually finite group. We show that for every minimal equicontinuous Cantor system $(Z,G)$ with a free orbit, and for every minimal extension $(Y,G)$ of $(Z,G)$, there exist a minimal almost 1-1 extension $(X,G)$ of $(Z,G)$ and a Borel equivariant map $\psi:Y\to X$ that induces an affine bijection $\psi^*$ between $M(Y,G)$ and $M(X,G)$, the spaces of invariant probability measures of $(Y,G)$ and $(X,G)$, respectively. If $Y$ is a Cantor set, then $(Y,G)$ and $(X,G)$ are Borel isomorphic, i.e., $\psi^*$ is also a homeomorphism. As an application, we show that the family of Toeplitz subshifts is a test for amenability for residually finite groups, i.e., a residually finite group $G$ is amenable if and only if every Toeplitz $G$-subshift has invariant probability measures.

Abstract:Let $f:X\to X$ be a hereditarily locally connected continuum homeomorphism and denote respectively by $P(f)$, $AP(f)$ and $\Omega(f)$, the sets of periodic points, almost periodic points and the non-wandering points of $f$. We show that any $\omega$-limit set (resp. $\alpha$-limit set) is minimal. Moreover, we show that $\Omega(f)=AP(f)$. We also prove that if $P(f)=\emptyset$, then there exists a unique minimal set. On the other hand, if $P(f)\neq\emptyset$ then we prove that any infinite minimal set has the adding machine structure and the absence of Li-Yorke pairs. Consequently, we partially solve the positive entropy conjecture which remains open even in the case of hereditarily locally connected continuum.

Abstract:Let be a locally finite tree without vertices of degree . We show that among the closed subgroups of acting with a bounded number of orbits, the Chabauty-closure of the set of topologically simple groups is the set of groups without proper open subgroup of finite index. Moreover, if all vertices of have degree , then the set of isomorphism classes of topologically simple closed subgroups of acting doubly transitively on ∂ carries a natural compact Hausdorff topology inherited from Chabauty. Some of our considerations are valid in the context of automorphism groups of locally finite connected graphs. Applications to Weyl-transitive automorphism groups of buildings are also presented.

Abstract:Let $\X$ be a class of finite groups closed under taking the subgroups, homomorphic images and extensions. By $\D_\X$ denote the class of finite groups $G$ in which every two $\X$-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate. In the paper, the following statement is proven. Let $A$ be a normal subgroup of a finite group $G$. Then \centerline{$G\in\D_\X$ if and only if $A\in \D_\X$ and $G/A\in \D_\X$.} This statement implies that the $\X$-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate if and only if the so called $\X$-sub\-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate. Thus we obtain an affirmative solution to a problem posed by H.Wielandt in 1964.

Abstract:Let [Formula: see text] be a compact metric space and [Formula: see text] a countable infinite discrete amenable group acting on [Formula: see text]. Like in the [Formula: see text]-action cases we define the notion of local entropy and by it we bound the difference between metric entropy and that of a partition, and bound the difference between topological entropy and that of a separated set, which generalize Theorems 1(1) and 1(2) in [Newhouse, 1989] from [Formula: see text]-actions to amenable group actions. We further prove that the entropy function [Formula: see text] is upper semi-continuous on [Formula: see text] for an asymptotic entropy expansive amenable group action.
