Abstract:Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted tremendous interest because of their rapid improvement in power conversion efficiency (PCE) from the initial PCE of 3.8% for the first prototype to the certified PCE of 25.2% in 2019. However, the inherent chemical instability of organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite halides influenced by moisture, heat and ultraviolet light is still a critical issue for them to meet application-specific requirements owing to the weak-bonded organic components in the hybrid crystal structure. The use of all-inorganic perovskites CsPbI3-xBrx (x = 0, 1, 2, and 3) as light-harvesters by completely substituting organic species with inorganic Cs+ ions has been recently regarded as a promising solar conversion technology. Since the initial efficiency of 2.9% achieved in 2015, the highest PCE record for inorganic PSCs has risen to 18.4% through structure optimization, compositional engineering, interfacial engineering, solvent control and surface passivation, etc. This article is dedicated to providing an up-to-date review on the development of inorganic PSCs tailored by various inorganic perovskite materials with gradually changed optical properties and stability, as well as the film-making methods and interfacial engineering technologies. Their limited efficiencies in theory and recombination mechanisms are also predicted with a detailed balance model. Finally, we focused on the state-of-the-art strategies for enhancing the photovoltaic performance and identified new challenges and outlooks for future studies in this field.

Abstract:Recently, the surge in performance of organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells (SCs) has boosted the research field of all-inorganic perovskites for their unique substantial stability over high temperatures. However, most of the commonly used charge-transport layers in high-performance perovskite SCs are expensive and labile organic materials and prone to deteriorate long-term stability of the whole device. Herein, we employ earth-abundant and nontoxic antimony selenide (Sb2Se3) in a p–n heterojunction combined with CsPbBrI2, developing a completely inorganic device structure that achieves a power conversion efficiency exceeding 9% after optimization. The carefully modulated selenization of Sb2Se3 decreases the Fermi level and reinforces the built-in electric field, therefore enhancing the driving force of carrier transport and reducing energy loss of charge recombination. The light-harvesting range of the whole device is broadened because of the narrower band gap of Sb2Se3 compared with CsPbBrI2. Moreover, in the presence of hydrophobic Sb2Se3, ion migration is removed and nearly 80% of the initial efficiency is retained without encapsulation after 60 days. Enhanced Crystallization and Optimized Morphology of Perovskite through Doping Indium-Based Metal-Organic Assembly: Achieving Significant Solar Cell Efficiency Enhancements

Abstract:Perovskite crystallization and morphology are two essential factors to the photoelectric performances of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). A 3D metal-organic assembly [In-2(phen)(3)Cl-6]CH(3)CN2H(2)O (In2) is introduced for the first time into lead iodide precursor to modify the quality of a perovskite thin film through a two-step sequential deposition method. As a result, both the lead iodide and perovskite exhibit improved crystallization and modified morphology. The optimized film presents less trap states and is thus in favor of the charge transfer as well as charge collection. Consequently, open circuit voltage (V-oc) and fill factor obviously show enhancements from 0.99 to 1.04V and from 0.66 to 0.71, respectively, yielding a significant increase in a power conversion efficiency from 15.41% to 17.15%. Meanwhile, the hydrophobic property of In2 can increase the moisture resistance of the perovskite, which offers a simple and effective method to improve the stability of PSCs.

Abstract:With the fast growth of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), inorganic perovskite, represented by Cs-based perovskite, consistently surpasses organic perovskite solar cells in regards of photovoltaic performance. Among them, CsPbIBr2 materials stand out for their excellent efficiency and stability in all-inorganic PSCs. Unfortunately, poor solar energy utilization results from the CsPbIBr2′s wide band gap, which severely limits light harvesting. This work proposes an all-inorganic CsPbIBr2/CsSnI3 heterojunction using CsSnI3 instead of HTL based on the matched band structure of CsSnI3 and CsPbIBr2, then simulations and optimizes it using SCAPS-1D software to increase solar energy utilization and cell efficiency. The results show that the CsPbIBr2/CsSnI3 perovskite heterojunction PSC extends the absorption spectral wavelength range from 600 nm in the visible area to 960 nm in the near-infrared region, which greatly improves solar energy utilization and is more favorable to photogenerated carrier migration. The device's performance is ideal after optimization when Voc = 1.0344 V, Jsc = 39.36 mA/cm2, FF = 89.43%, and PCE = 36.41%. The device efficiency of the optimized CsPbIBr2/CsSnI3 heterojunction is 36.41%, which is significantly higher than the PCE of 5.45% for a single layer of CsPbIBr2. Moreover, the CsPbIBr2/CsSnI3 solar cell can respond to near-infrared light, enabling it to generate power at night. Consequently, this work reveals that the constructed CsPbIBr2/CsSnI3 heterojunction PSCs can enable the bright future of Cs-based inorganic PSCs for practical applications in photovoltaics and optoelectronics.

Abstract:All‐inorganic CsPbIBr2 perovskite solar cells (pero‐SCs) exhibit excellent overall stability, but their power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) are greatly limited by their wide bandgaps. Integrated solar cells (ISCs) are considered to be an emergent technology that could extend their photoresponse by directly stacking two distinct photoactive layers with complementary bandgaps. However, rising photocurrents always sacrifice other photovoltaic parameters, thereby leading to an unsatisfactory PCE. Here, a recast strategy is proposed to optimize the spatial distribution components of low‐bandgap organic bulk‐heterojunction (BHJ) film, and is combined with an all‐inorganic perovskite to construct perovskite/BHJ ISCs. With this strategy, the integrated perovskite/BHJ film with a top‐enriched donor‐material spatial distribution is shown to effectively improve ambipolar charge transport behavior and suppress charge carrier recombination. For the first time, the ISC is not only significantly extended and enhanced the photoresponse achieving a 20% increase in current density, but also exhibits a high open‐circuit voltage and fill factor at the same time. As a result, a record PCE of 11.08% based on CsPbIBr2 pero‐SCs is realized; it simultaneously shows excellent long‐term stability against heat and ultraviolet light.

After thoroughly eliminating labile organic components and noble metals, the all-inorganic PSCs based on CsPb0.9Sn0.1IBr2 and carbon counter electrodes exhibit a high open-circuit voltage of 1.26 V and a remarkable PCE up to 11.33%, which is record-breaking among the existing CsMX3-based PSCs. Moreover, the all inorganic PSCs show good long-term stability and improved endurance against heat and moisture. This study indicates a feasible way to design inorganic halide perovskites through energy-band engineering for the construction of high-performance all-inorganic PSCs.

Abstract:All‐inorganic perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted tremendous attention over the past few years owing to their outstanding thermal and moiture stability. Electron transport layers (ETLs) in PSCs play a prominent role of electron extraction and transportation as well as hole blocking for a high power conversion efficiency (PCE). Indium sulfide (In2S3) films have been introduced as a promising ETL of PSCs recently due to their high carrier mobility, appropriate band gap, and controllable electrical characteristics. Herein, a facile wet chemistry method is proposed to prepare In2S3 films for the ETLs of all‐inorganic CsPbBr3 PSCs with an architecture of fluorine‐doped tin oxide/In2S3/CsPbBr3/carbon. The resultant compact In2S3 films show a certain visible light absorption with a bandgap of 2.51 eV. With the optimal 3000 rpm speed of In2S3 spin‐coating, the best‐performing In2S3 based device presents a higher champion PCE of 5.83% with open circuit voltage of 1.34 V, a short circuit current density of 6.74 mA cm−2 and a fill factor of 0.65. The better performance of devices based on In2S3 ETLs is attributed to their more suitable energy level matching with less open circuit voltage loss, better light harvesting, and electron extraction capability enhancement.

Abstract:The search for stable alternative lead-free perovskites has identified all-inorganic antimony/bismuth halide derivatives as promising materials. Despite attractive optoelectronic properties, their wider band gaps and poor morphological control have greatly limited their solar device performance. In this study, we used the indacenodithiophene-based organic acceptor (ITIC) as a Lewis base to improve the morphology of Cs3Sb2I9 films and also as an electron transport layer to form a complimentary heterojunction, and, thereby, enhance the performance of Cs3Sb2I9 solar cells. The presence of cyano and carbonyl groups in ITIC modulated the rate of crystallization of Cs3Sb2I9 and improved its optoelectronic properties. The panchromatic absorption of the Cs3Sb2I9/ITIC heterostructure provided a power conversion efficiency of 3.25% in inverted solar cell structure under 1-sun irradiation. This enhanced performance when using a complimentary absorption strategy suggests a new pathway for developing wider-band-gap lead-free perovskite derivatives for solar cell applications. Moreover, the optimized Cs3Sb2I9/ITIC heterostructure–based solar cell achieved a PCE of 9.2% under indoor illumination at 1000 lx, highlighting the potential use of such devices in indoor applications.

Abstract:All-inorganic perovskites, adopting cesium (Cs+) cation to completely replace the organic component of A-sites of hybrid organic–inorganic halide perovskites, have attracted much attention owing to the excellent thermal stability. However, all-inorganic iodine-based perovskites generally exhibit poor phase stability in ambient conditions. Herein, we propose an efficient strategy to introduce antimony (Sb3+) into the crystalline lattices of CsPbI2Br perovskite, which can effectively regulate the growth of perovskite crystals to obtain a more stable perovskite phase. Abstract:Hybrid organic-inorganic halide perovskite solarcells (PSCs)have garnered significant attention in the field of photovoltaics.Despite the rapid advancements in photoelectric conversion efficiency(PCE), the sensitivity of hybrid perovskites to moisture and heatposes challenges to device stability. All-inorganic PSCs (AIPSCs)eliminate the use of traditional organic components, resulting insignificantly extended operational lifetimes. Herein, we report thedoping of indium bromide (InBr3) into the lattice of CsPbI2.5Br0.5-based all-inorganic perovskites, leadingto large crystalline grain sizes and tunable energy band levels byadjusting the concentration of InBr3 dopants. AIPSCs basedon highly stable In-doped CsPbI2.5Br0.5 absorberlayers can be conveniently fabricated in an ambient air environment.Moreover, screen-printable nanocarbon counter electrodes with highstability and low cost are introduced to replace unstable organichole-transport materials and expensive noble metal electrodes, thusfurther increasing ambient stability and greatly reducing device costs.As a result, the In-doped CsPbI2.5Br0.5-basedAIPSCs achieve a champion PCE of 12.05% and favorable heat endurancewith a PCE retention of 80% after being continuously heated at 100 & DEG;C for over 1632 h. This work provides a feasible strategy oflattice doping to tackle the intractable issue regarding the intrinsicthermal instability of inorganic perovskite materials for fabricatingAIPSCs with a wide absorption range and high environmental stability.

Abstract:Inherent defects such as ion migration, halide vacancies and ionic dangling bonds based on CsPbIxBr3−x devices are the main reasons for deep-level defects, non-radiative recombination and poor moisture resistance. Interface engineering has been proven to be the most direct and effective way to solve these problems. In this work, a PbS/CdS heterojunction thin layer between the CsPbI1.5Br1.5 and carbon electrode is constructed. The thin layer interacts with perovskite to reduce the trap density, inhibit carrier recombination, increase the built-in potential, inhibit ion migration and greatly improve the stability of the device. As a result, the carbon-based CsPbI1.5Br1.5 PSC achieves an open-circuit voltage of 1.315 V, a fill factor of 77.06% and a power conversion efficiency of 13.65%. As far as we know, this may be the highest efficiency reported for carbon-based CsPbI1.5Br1.5 PSCs so far. The optimized device can maintain more than 90% of the original efficiency and can be stored for 1200 h in atmospheric environment with relative humidity ≈ 30%. It can still retain 87% of the initial efficiency at temperature of 85 °C for 400 h in nitrogen environment. Our work provides a new optimization direction for the high-efficiency and stable all-inorganic PSCs.

Abstract:CsPbI3 perovskite solar cells have attracted intense research interest since the inorganic absorber layer has better thermal stability compared with organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites. However, CsPbI3 suffers from structural instability due to an easily induced phase transition from the photoactive to the photoinactive structure. Here, we clearly identify that the formation of an organic-inorganic hybrid structure by the incorporation of (CH3)2NH2+ into the CsPbI3 lattice is the key to stabilizing the photoactive perovskite structure and improving solar cell performance.

Abstract:Owing to their prominent thermal stability, inorganic halide perovskites have been deemed as promising substitutes for organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites; however, their application is hindered by their mediocre efficiency. High exciton binding energies in inorganic perovskites have been considered to be one of the main obstacles, which lead to insufficient separation of bound excitons and low photocurrent output. Herein, we demonstrated an effective strategy to enhance the exciton dissociation efficiency in inorganic perovskites by incorporating layer-structure-tunable two-dimensional black phosphorous. Importantly, the energy-level configuration and work function alignment of multi-layer black phosphorous can be tuned by adjusting the number of layers, which induces built-in electric field formation and boosts interfacial charge carrier transfer. Furthermore, it is revealed that multi-layer black phosphorous can increase relative permittivity due to its efficient dielectric screening effect in a local dielectric environment, thus diminishing the exciton binding energy, enhancing the exciton dissociation efficiency and leading to a significant increase in the free carrier density of inorganic perovskites. The multi-layer black phosphorous-CsPbI3 heterostructure perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with the inorganic CuSCN hole-transport-layer (HTL) exhibit the current density of 19.3 mA cm(-2) and the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 14.17%, which is one of the highest efficiencies reported to date for PSCs with all-inorganic materials.

Abstract:In the last decade, organic-inorganic halide perovskites (OIHPs) Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have received gigantic research attention owing to their prompt development in power conversion efficiency (PCE) from the initial 3.8% for the first prototype in 2009 to the present state-of-the-art value of 25.5%. However, due to the weak-bonded organic components in the hybrid crystal structure, the intrinsic chemical instability of OIHPs persuaded by humidity, ultraviolet light and heat, remains a challenging issue for them to meet industrialization-specific requirements. Parallel to the flourishing of OIHPs, the progress of inorganic cesium-based metal halide PSCs (CsPbX3, X = I, Br and mixed) is hastening with PCEs over 20%. Due to its excellent stability under thermal and high humidity conditions, the CsPbI2Br is one of the most fascinating inorganic perovskites and a notable research hotspot in the field of perovskite photovoltaics. In this review, recent developments of CsPbI2Br-based PSCs including the optoelectronic properties, processing methods for preparing CsPbI2Br films, stability of devices and efficiency improvements are reviewed and deliberated. Finally, we discussed cutting-edge engineering approaches for optimizing the photovoltaic performance and recognized new challenges and perspectives for future research in this field.This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Employing all-inorganic perovskites as light harvesters has recently drawn increasing attention owing to the strong-bonded inorganic components in the crystal. To achieve the systematic and comprehensive understanding for the structures and properties of Cs-x(Pb/Sn)(y)X-z (X = F, Cl, Br, I) perovskites, this work provides the comparison details about crystal structures, optical properties, electronic structures and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 18 perovskites. The suitable band gaps are detected in CsSnCl3-Pm3m (0.96 eV), gamma-CsPbI3-Pnma (1.75 eV), and CsPbBr3-Pm3m (1.78 eV), facilitating the conversion from absorbing photon energy to generating hole-electron pairs. gamma-CsPbI3-Pnma and CsSnI3-P4/mbm show superior visible-absorption performance depending on their higher absorption coefficient (alpha); meanwhile, strong peaks can be observed in the real part (Re) of photoconductivity of CsPbBr3-Pbnm, gamma-CsPbI3-Pnma, and CsSnI3-P4/mbm in the visible-light range, implying their better photoelectric conversion abilities. The perovskite/tungsten disulfide (WS2) heterojunctions are constructed to calculate the PCE. Although just the PCE result (14.43%) of CsSnI3-Pnma/WS2 is reluctantly competitive, the predictions of PCEs indicate that the PCE of PSCs (perovskite solar cells) can be improved by not only regulating the perovskite to upgrade its own performance but also designing the PSC structure reasonably including the selection of appropriate ETL/HTL (electron/hole transport layer), etc.

Abstract:Forming a 2D capping layer has been recognized as an effective strategy to improve both efficiency and stability of organic-inorganic perovskite solar cells. However, constructing a 2D/3D heterostructure is difficult for inorganic perovskites due to their resistance to cation exchange reaction. Here, we report an effective in situ growth method to form a 2D/3D heterostructure for inorganic CsPbI2Br perovskite. The 2D capping layer was found to form a type-II heterojunction with 3D perovskites, facilitating hole extraction at the perovskite/hole transport layer interface. When exposed to a humid environment, the 2D/3D perovskite films showed greatly enhanced phase stability as compared to the pristine 3D perovskite films. As a result, the optimized 2D/3D CsPbI2Br device reached a power conversion efficiency of 14.5% with improved short-circuit current and significantly enhanced device moisture stability.

Abstract:All-inorganic CsPbI 2 Br perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted intensive attention owing to their suitable bandgaps and excellent photo- and thermal stability, making them promising ideal top cells in high-performance monolithic all-perovskite tandem solar cells (all-PTSCs). However, CsPbI 2 Br PSCs are still facing a challenge due to their relatively low power conversion efficiency (PCE) and moisture sensitivity. Herein, a simple and effective in situ growth method was adopted to construct a two-dimensional/three-dimensional (2D/3D) heterostructure by spinning n -butylammonium bromide (BABr) on the top of a 3D CsPbI 2 Br perovskite film. The such fabricated high-quality 2D/3D CsPbI 2 Br film exhibits excellent hydrophobicity against moisture invasion, and a well-matched energy level with the hole transport layer (HTL) facilitating hole extraction at the perovskite/HTL interface. As a result, the optimized 2D/3D CsPbI 2 Br solar cell achieves an excellent PCE of 16.57% with improved stability. Based on this, we developed an all-PTSC having 2D/3D CsPbI 2 Br and MAPbI 3 as the optical absorption layer of top and bottom cells, respectively, along with a solution-processed PEDOT:PSS film with high conductivity and high transmittance as the recombination layer. The fabricated all-PTSC exhibits a PCE of 10.22% and an ultrahigh open-circuit voltage of 2.33 V, approaching the sum of the light voltages of the two sub-cells. Benefiting from the outstanding thermal stability and hydrophobicity of 2D/3D CsPbI 2 Br, the all-PTSC showed superior stability under heat and air. This work demonstrates that all-inorganic perovskites as the photo-response cores of top cells are appropriate candidates for the fabrication of efficient and stable monolithic all-PTSCs.
