Abstract:Let $mathbf G$ be a complex orthogonal or complex symplectic group, and let $G$ be a real form of $mathbf G$, namely $G$ is a real orthogonal group, a real symplectic group, a quaternionic orthogonal group, or a quaternionic symplectic group. For a fixed parity $mathbb pin mathbb Z/2mathbb Z$, we define a set $mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$ of nilpotent $mathbf G$-orbits $mathfrak g$ (the Lie algebra of $mathbf G$). When $mathbb p$ is the parity of the dimension of the standard module of $mathbf G$, this is the set of the stably trivial special nilpotent orbits, which includes all rigid special nilpotent orbits. For each $mathcal O in mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$, we construct all unipotent representations of $G$ (or its metaplectic cover when $G$ is a real symplectic group and $mathbb p$ is odd) attached to $mathcal O$ via the method of theta lifting and show particular that they are unitary.

Abstract:Holomorphic representations are lowest weight representations for simple Lie groups of Hermitian type and have been studied extensively. Inspired by the work of Kobayashi on discrete series for indefinite Stiefel manifolds, Gross-Wallach on quaternonic discrete series and their analytic continuation, and Orsted-Wolf on Borel-de Siebenthal discrete series, we define and study Borel-de Siebenthal representations (also called quasi-holomorphic representations) associated with Borel-de Siebenthal root systems for simple Lie groups of non-Hermitian type.

Abstract:We derive the quantization map in geometric quantization of symplectic manifolds via the Poisson sigma model. This gives a polarization-free (path integral) definition of quantization which pieces together most known quantization schemes. We explain how this allows Schur's lemma to address the invariance of polarization problem. We compute this quantization map for the torus and obtain the noncommutative torus and its standard irreducible representation.

On the regular representation of solvable Lie groups with open coadjoint quasi-orbits

Abstract:We obtain a Lie theoretic intrinsic characterization of the connected and simply connected solvable Lie groups whose regular representation is a factor representation. When this is the case, the corresponding von Neumann algebras are isomorphic to the hyperfinite II$_\infty$ factor, and every Casimir function is constant. We thus obtain a family of geometric models for the standard representation of that factor. Finally, we show that the regular representation of any connected and simply connected solvable Lie group with open coadjoint orbits is always of type I, though the group needs not be of type I, and include some relevant examples.

Abstract:We first introduce an invariant index for G-equivariant elliptic differential operators on a locally compact manifold M admitting a proper cocompact action of a locally compact group G. It generalizes the Kawasaki index for orbifolds to the case of proper cocompact actions. Our invariant index is used to show that an analog of the Guillemin–Sternberg geometric quantization conjecture holds if M is symplectic with a Hamiltonian action of G that is proper and cocompact. This essentially solves a conjecture of Hochs and Landsman.

Abstract:Geometric quantization transforms a symplectic manifold with Lie group action to a unitary representation. In this article, we extend geometric quantization to the super setting. We consider real forms of contragredient Lie supergroups with compact Cartan subgroups, and study their actions on some pseudo-Kähler supermanifolds. We construct their unitary representations in terms of sections of some line bundles. These unitary representations contain highest weight Harish-Chandra supermodules, whose occurrences depend on the image of the moment map. As a result, we construct a Gelfand model of highest weight Harish-Chandra supermodules. We also perform symplectic reduction, and show that quantization commutes with reduction.

Abstract:We categorify the highest weight integrable representations and their tensor products of a symmetric quantum Kac-Moody algebra. As byproducts, we obtain a geometric realization of Lusztig's canonical bases of these representations as well as a new positivity result. The main ingredient in the underlying geometric construction is a class of micro-local perverse sheaves on quiver varieties.

Abstract:We characterize the square-integrable representations of (connected, simply connected) solvable Lie groups in terms of the generalized orbits of the coadjoint action. We prove that the normal representations corresponding, via the Pukánszky correspondence, to open coadjoint orbits are type I, not necessarily square-integrable representations. We show that the quasi-equivalence classes of type I square-integrable representations are in bijection with the simply connected open coadjoint orbits, and the existence of an open coadjoint orbit guarantees the existence of a compact open subset of the space of primitive ideals of the group. When the nilradical has codimension 1, we prove that the isolated points of the primitive ideal space are always of type I. This is not always true for codimension greater than 2, as shown by specific examples of solvable Lie groups that have dense, but not locally closed, coadjoint orbits.

Abstract:In this work, we present straightforward and concrete computations of the unitary irreducible representations of the Euclidean motion group $M(2)$ employing the methods of deformation quantization. Deformation quantization is a quantization method of classical mechanics and is an autonomous approach to quantum mechanics, arising from the Wigner quasiprobability distributions and Weyl correspondence. We advertise the utility and power of deformation theory in Lie group representations. In implementing this idea, many aspects of the method of orbits is also learned, thus further adding to the mathematical toolkit of the beginning graduate student of physics. Furthermore, the essential unity of many topics in mathematics and physics (such as Lie groups and Lie algebras, quantization, functional analysis and symplectic geometry) is witnessed, an aspect seldom encountered in textbooks, in an elementary way.

Abstract:In this paper, the irreducible representations of the coordinate ring Oq(spC2n) of quantum symplectic space are classified. Especially, the De Concini–Kac–Procesi conjecture is proved to be true for this algebra. The main steps are the computation of the center and the degree of the algebra Oq(spC2n) by using the associated quasipolynomial algebra Oq(spC2n), find some “good” points in the underlying symplectic leaves and construct some quasipolynomial algebras correspond to these “good” points.

Abstract:We prove a double coset formula for induced representations of compact Lie groups. We apply it to the representation rings of unitary and symplectic groups to obtain Hopf algebras. We also construct a Heisenberg algebra representation based on the restiction and induction of representations of unitary groups.

Abstract:This book provides a thorough introduction to the theory of complex semisimple quantum groups, that is, Drinfeld doubles of q-deformations of compact semisimple Lie groups. The presentation is comprehensive, beginning with background information on Hopf algebras, and ending with the classification of admissible representations of the q-deformation of a complex semisimple Lie group. The main components are: - a thorough introduction to quantized universal enveloping algebras over general base fields and generic deformation parameters, including finite dimensional representation theory, the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt Theorem, the locally finite part, and the Harish-Chandra homomorphism, - the analytic theory of quantized complex semisimple Lie groups in terms of quantized algebras of functions and their duals, - algebraic representation theory in terms of category O, and - analytic representation theory of quantized complex semisimple groups. Given its scope, the book will be a valuable resource for both graduate students and researchers in the area of quantum groups.

Quantum geometry of moduli spaces of local systems and representation theory

Abstract:Let G be a split semi-simple adjoint group, and S a colored decorated surface, given by an oriented surface with punctures, special boundary points, and a specified collection of boundary intervals. We introduce a moduli space P(G,S) parametrizing G-local system on S with some boundary data, and prove that it carries a cluster Poisson structure, equivariant under the action of the cluster modular group M(G,S), containing the mapping class group of S, the group of outer automorphisms of G, and the product of Weyl / braid groups over punctures / boundary components. We prove that the dual moduli space A(G,S) carries a M(G,S)-equivariant cluster structure, and the pair (A(G,S), P(G,S)) is a cluster ensemble. These results generalize the works of V. Fock & the first author, and of I. Le. We quantize cluster Poisson varieties X for any Planck constant h s.t. h>0 or |h|=1. First, we define a *-algebra structure on the Langlands modular double A(h; X) of the algebra of functions on X. We construct a principal series of representations of the *-algebra A(h; X), equivariant under a unitary projective representation of the cluster modular group M(X). This extends works of V. Fock and the first author when h>0. Combining this, we get a M(G,S)-equivariant quantization of the moduli space P(G,S), given by the *-algebra A(h; P(G,S)) and its principal series representations. We construct realizations of the principal series *-representations. In particular, when S is punctured disc with two special points, we get a principal series *-representations of the Langlands modular double of the quantum group Uq(g). We conjecture that there is a nondegenerate pairing between the local system of coinvariants of oscillatory representations of the W-algebra and the one provided by the projective representation of the mapping class group of S.

Abstract:We show that $\frak{su}(2)$ Lie algebras of coordinate operators related to quantum spaces with $\frak{su}(2)$ noncommutativity can be conveniently represented by $SO(3)$-covariant poly-differential involutive representations. We show that the quantized plane waves obtained from the quantization map action on the usual exponential functions are determined by polar decomposition of operators combined with constraint stemming from the Wigner theorem for $SU(2)$. Selecting a subfamily of $^*$-representations, we show that the resulting star-product is equivalent to the Kontsevich product for the Poisson manifold dual to the finite dimensional Lie algebra $\mathfrak{su}(2)$. We discuss the results, indicating a way to extend the construction to any semi-simple non simply connected Lie group and present noncommutative scalar field theories which are free from perturbative UV/IR mixing.
