Abstract:For any , let denote the space containing all locally Lipschitz minimal graphs of dimension n and of arbitrary codimension m in Euclidean space with uniformly bounded 2-dilation of their graphic functions. In this paper, we show that this is a natural class to extend structural results known for codimension one. In particular, we prove that any tangent cone C of at infinity has multiplicity one. This enables us to get a Neumann–Poincaré inequality on stationary indecomposable components of C . A corollary is a Liouville theorem for M . For small (we can take any ), we prove that (i) for , M is flat; (ii) for and a non-flat M , any tangent cone of M at infinity is a multiplicity one quasi-cylindrical minimal cone in whose singular set has dimension .

Abstract:Let Vn+1 be an (n + 1)-dimensional real vector space and (F) over tilde = (alpha) over tilde phi(s) s = (beta) over tilde/(alpha) over tilde, be all (alpha, beta)-metric, where (alpha) over tilde is an Euclidean metric and (beta) over tilde is a one form. Minimal surfaces with respect to the Busemann-Hausdorff measure and the Holmes-Thompson measure are called BH-minimal and HT-minimal surfaces, respectively. We give a Bernstein type theorem for minimal graphs in (Vn+1, (F) over tilde) with n <= 7. Let (F) over tilde (b) = (alpha) over tilde phi(s), s = (beta) over tilde/(alpha) over tilde, be a Minkowski metric with b := parallel to(beta) over tilde parallel to(alpha) over tilde. We use a PDE to characterize the BH-minimal and HT-minimal graph over any hyperplane containing the origin in (Vn+1, (F) over tilde (b)). Then we prove that this PDE is an elliptic equation of mean curvature type when b is an element of [0, is an element of) for sonic constant is an element of > 0 and give a Bernstein type theorem for BH-minimal surface in (V-3, (F) over tilde (b)). BH-minimal cones with an isolated singularity at the origin are also given.

Abstract:The authors derive curvature estimates for minimal submanifolds in Euclidean space for arbitrary dimension and codimension via Gauss map. Thus, Schoen-Simon-Yau’s results and Ecker-Huisken’s results are generalized to higher codimension. In this way, Hildebrandt-Jost-Widman’s result for the Bernstein type theorem is improved.

Abstract:We study minimal graphs with linear growth on complete manifolds $M^m$ with $\mathrm{Ric} \ge 0$. Under the further assumption that the $(m-2)$-th Ricci curvature in radial direction is bounded below by $C r(x)^{-2}$, we prove that any such graph, if non-constant, forces tangent cones at infinity of $M$ to split off a line. Note that $M$ is not required to have Euclidean volume growth. We also show that $M$ may not split off any line. Our result parallels that obtained by Cheeger, Colding and Minicozzi for harmonic functions. The core of the paper is a new refinement of Korevaar's gradient estimate for minimal graphs, together with heat equation techniques.

Abstract:This article deals with topological assumptions under which the minimal volume entropy of a closed manifold $M$, and more generally of a finite simplicial complex $X$, vanishes or is positive. These topological conditions are expressed in terms of the growth of the fundamental group of the fibers of maps from a given finite simplicial complex $X$ to lower dimensional simplicial complexes $P$. We also give examples of finite simplicial complexes with zero simplicial volume and arbitrarily large minimal volume entropy.

Abstract:We study minimal graphic functions on complete Riemannian manifolds ∑ with nonnegative Ricci curvature, euclidean volume growth, and quadratic curvature decay. We derive global bounds for the gradients for minimal graphic functions of linear growth only on one side. Then we can obtain a Liouville-type theorem with such growth via splitting for tangent cones of ∑ at infinity. When, in contrast, we do not impose any growth restrictions for minimal graphic functions, we also obtain a Liouville-type theorem under a certain nonradial Ricci curvature decay condition on ∑. In particular, the borderline for the Ricci curvature decay is sharp by our example in the last section. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract:This paper concerns the construction of minimal varieties with small canonical volumes. The first part devotes to establishing an effective nefness criterion for the canonical divisor of a weighted blow-up over a weighted hypersurface, from which we construct plenty of new minimal 3 -folds including 59 families of minimal 3 -folds of general type, several infinite series of minimal 3 -folds of Kodaira dimension 2, 2 families of minimal 3 -folds of general type on the Noether line, and 12 families of minimal 3 -folds of general type near the Noether line. In the second part, we prove effective lower bounds of canonical volumes of minimal n -folds of general type with canonical dimension n - 1 or n - 2. Examples are provided to show that the theoretical lower bounds are optimal in dimension at most 5 and nearly optimal in higher dimensions.
Essential minimal volume of Einstein 4-manifolds

Abstract:The minimal volume of a closed manifold $M$ is the infimum of the volume of $(M,g)$ over all metrics $g$ with sectional curvature between $-1$ and $1$. We introduce a variant called the essential minimal volume, $\mathrm{ess-Minvol}(M)$, which is the limit, as $\delta>0$ goes to $0$, of the infimum of the volume of the $\delta$-thick part of $(M,g)$ over all metrics $g$ with sectional curvature between $-1$ and $1$. We show that, for some universal constant $C>0$, any closed Einstein 4-manifold $M$ with Euler characteristic $e(M)$ satisfies $$C^{-1}e(M) \leq \mathrm{ess-Minvol}(M) \leq Ce(M).$$ As a corollary, these inequalities are true for the essential minimal volume of closed complex surfaces of nonnegative Kodaira dimension. We conjecture that those linear bounds in fact hold for the minimal volume.

Abstract:We study the Dirichlet problem for minimal surface systems in arbitrary dimension and codimension via mean curvature flow, and obtain the existence of minimal graphs over arbitrary mean convex bounded C2 domains for a large class of prescribed boundary data. This result can be seen as a natural generalization of the classical sharp criterion for solvability of the minimal surface equation by Jenkins-Serrin. In contrast, we also construct a class of prescribed boundary data on just mean convex domains for which the Dirichlet problem in codimension 2 is not solvable. Moreover, we study existence and the uniqueness of minimal graphs by perturbation.
Volume gap for minimal submanifolds in spheres

Abstract:For a closed minimal submanifold $f:M^n\looparrowright \mathbb{S}^{N}$ in the unit sphere $(n<N)$, we prove $${\rm Vol}(M^n) \geq\frac{n+1}{n+2}\int_{M}\left( 1+\varphi_{p}^2\right) \geq m{\rm Vol}(\mathbb{S}^{n}),$$ where $\varphi_{p}(x):=\langle f(x),p\rangle$ is the height function in direction $p\in f(M)$, $m$ denotes the multiplicity of $p\in f(M)$ and ${\rm Vol}$ denotes the Riemannian volume functional, and each equality holds if and only if $M$ is totally geodesic. As an application, if the volume of $M^n$ is less than or equal to the volume of any $n$-dimensional minimal Clifford torus, then $M^n$ must be embedded, verifying the non-embedded case of Yau's conjecture. In addition, we also get volume gaps for minimal hypersurfaces with constant scalar curvature, improving Cheng-Li-Yau's classical volume gap in this case. Some other volume gaps and related pinching rigidities are also obtained.

Abstract:We consider stable minimal surfaces of genus 1 in Euclidean space and in Riemannian manifolds. Under the condition of covering stability (all finite covers are stable) we show that a genus 1 finite total curvature minimal surface in $\mathbb R^n$ lies in an even dimensional affine subspace and is holomorphic for some constant orthogonal complex structure. For stable minimal tori in Riemannian manifolds we give an explicit bound on the systole in terms of a positive lower bound on the isotropic curvature. As an application we estimate the systole of noncyclic abelian subgroups of the fundamental group of PIC manifolds. This gives a new proof of the result of [5] that the fundamental cannot contain a noncyclic free abelian subgroup. The proofs apply the structure theory of holomorphic vector bundles over genus 1 Riemann surfaces developed by M. Atiyah [2].

Abstract:Let $\Sigma$ be a complete Riemannian manifold of nonnegative Ricci curvature. We prove a Liouville-type theorem: every smooth solution $u$ to minimal hypersurface equation on $\Sigma$ is a constant provided $u$ has sublinear growth for its negative part. Here, the sublinear growth condition is sharp. Our proof relies on a gradient estimate for minimal graphs over $\Sigma$ with small linear growth of the negative parts of graphic functions via iteration.

Abstract:F.-H. Lin (1989) studied minimal graphs of the Dirichlet problem in the hyperbolic space and proved that any such minimal graph has the same global regularity as the boundary if the dimension of the minimal graph is even and that there is an obstacle to the higher regularity if the dimension is odd. We discuss the odd-dimensional case and study how the higher regularity is obstructed. We introduce the logarithmic distance to the boundary as an additional independent self-variable and establish concise boundary regularity for the minimal graph.
