Abstract:In this paper, we prove that for every local pi-saturated Fitting class F with char(F) = P, the F-radical of every finite pi-soluble groups G has the property: C-G(G(F)) subset of G(F). From this, some well known results are followed and some new results are obtained.

Abstract:For a Baer-local (composition) Fitting formation $\mathfrak{F}$ the polynomial time algorithm for the computation of the $\mathfrak{F}$-radical of a permutation group is suggested. In particular it is showed how one can compute the $\mathfrak{F}$-radical in case when $\mathfrak{F}$ is a primitive saturated formation of soluble groups. Moreover, the polynomial time algorithms for the computation of different lengthes associated with a group are presented.

Abstract:In this paper the relationship between the Ricci curvature and the fundamental groups of Finsler manifolds are studied. We give an estimate of the first Betti number of a compact Finsler manifold. Two finiteness theorems for fundamental groups of compact Finsler manifolds are proved. Moreover, the growth of fundamental groups of Finsler manifolds with almost-nonnegative Ricci curvature are considered.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the growth of fundamental groups of Finsler manifolds. Some relationships between the growth of fundamental groups and the volume growth of universal covers of Finsler manifolds are found. Some estimates of entropies and the number of generators of fundamental groups of Finsler manifolds are given. Moreover, the quasi-isometry and the geometric norm in Finsler geometry are considered.

Abstract:Suppose that π be a set of primes and F-fraktur sign a local Fitting class. Let Kπ(F-fraktur sign) be the set of finite π-soluble groups with a Hall π-subgroup belonging to F-fraktur sign. In this paper, we show that the class Kπ(F-fraktur sign) is a local Fitting class. Thus, an interesting Shemetkov question for Fitting classes will be answered positively. By using the result, the F-fraktur sign-radical of a Hall π-subgroup of a finite π-soluble group is described. For an H-function f, we also give the definition and its description of f-radical of a finite π-soluble group. Some known important results follow. © 2007 Heldermann Verlag.
Radical subgroups of finite reductive groups

Abstract:Radical subgroups play an important role in both finite group theory and representation theory. This is the first of a series of papers of ours in classifying radical $p$-subgroups of finite reductive groups and in verifying the inductive blockwise Alperin weight condition for them, contributing to the program of proving the Alperin weight conjecture by verifying its inductive condition for finite simple groups. In this paper we present a uniform method of classifying radical subgroups of finite reductive groups. As applications, we investigate the inductive blockwise Alperin weight condition for classical groups, as well as groups of type $\bf F_4$.

Abstract:Let G be a finite group and F a saturated formation of finite groups. We say that G is quasi-F-group if for every F-eccentric chief factor H/K of G and every x. G, x induces an inner automorphism on H/K. In particular, we have the concepts of quasisoluble, quasisupersoluble, quasimetanilpotent groups, and so on. In this article, we obtain some results about the quasi-F-groups and use them to give the conditions under which a group is quasisoluble, quasimetanilpotent, or quasisupersoluble.

Abstract:We describe the structure of finite groups with $\mathfrak{F}$-subnormal or self-normalizing primary cyclic subgroups when $\mathfrak{F}$ is a subgroup-closed saturate superradical formation containing all nilpotent groups. We prove that groups with absolutely $\mathfrak{F}$-subnormal or self-normalizing primary cyclic subgroups are soluble when $\mathfrak{F}$ is a subgroup-closed saturate formation containing all nilpotent groups.

Abstract:We study the Hirsch-Plotkin radical of stability groups of (general) subspace series of infinite dimensional vector spaces. We show that in countable dimension and some other cases, the HP-radical of the stability group coincides with the set of all space automorphisms that fix a finite sub-series; this implies that the HP radical is a Fitting group. Conversely, we prove that every countable Fitting group, which is either torsion-free or a p-group may be represented as a subgroup of the HP radical of a series stabilizer.

Abstract:In this paper we consider the Fitting subgroup $F(G)$ of a finite group $G$ and its generalizations: the quasinilpotent radical $F^*(G)$ and the generalized Fitting subgroup $\tilde{F}(G)$ defined by $\tilde{F}(G)\supseteq \Phi(G)$ and $\tilde{F}(G)/\Phi(G)=Soc(G/\Phi(G))$. We sum up known properties of $\tilde{F}(G)$ and suggest some new ones. Let $R$ be a subgroup of a group $G$. We shall call a subgroup $H$ of $G$ the $R$-subnormal subgroup if $H$ is subnormal in $ \langle H,R\rangle$. In this work the influence of $R$-subnormal subgroups (maximal, Sylow, cyclic primary) on the structure of finite groups are studied in the case when $R\in\{F(G), F^*(G),\tilde{F}(G)\}$.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the following theorem: Let p be a prime number, P a Sylow p-subgroup of a group G and π = π(G) \ {p}. If P is seminormal in G, then the following statements hold: 1) G is a p-soluble group and P′ ≤ O p (G); 2) l p (G) ≤ 2 and l π (G) ≤ 2; 3) if a π-Hall subgroup of G is q-supersoluble for some q ∈ π, then G is q-supersoluble.

Abstract:Let F be a class of groups. A subgroup H of a group G is called F-s-supplemented in G if there exists a subgroup K of G such that G = HK and K/K boolean AND H-G belongs to F. We obtain some results about the F-s-supplemented subgroups and use them to determine the structure of some groups. In particular, some new criteria of p-nilpotency, solubility, supersolubility of a group are obtained.

Abstract:We first determine in this paper the structure of the generalized Fitting subgroup F * ( G ) of the finite groups G all of whose defect groups (of blocks) are conjugate under the automorphism group Aut( G ) to either a Sylow p -subgroup or a fixed p -subgroup of G . Then we prove that if a finite group L acts transitively on the set of its proper Sylow p -intersections, then either L/O p ( L ) has a T.I. Sylow p -subgroup or p = 2 and the normal closure of a Sylow 2-subgroup of L/O 2 ( L ) is 2-nilpotent with completely descripted structure. This solves a long-open problem. We also obtain some generalizations of the classic results by Isaacs and Passman on half-transitivity.

Abstract:Let f(x) be a non-zero polynomial with integer coefficients. An automorphism φ of a group G is said to satisfy the elementary abelian identity f(x) if the linear transformation induced by φ on every characteristic elementary abelian section of G is annihilated by f(x). We prove that if a finite (soluble) group G admits a fixed-point-free automorphism φ satisfying an elementary abelian identity f(x), where f(x) is a primitive polynomial, then the Fitting height of G is bounded in terms of deg⁡(f(x)). We also prove that if f(x) is any non-zero polynomial and G is a σ′-group for a finite set of primes σ=σ(f(x)) depending only on f(x), then the Fitting height of G is bounded in terms of the number irr(f(x)) of different irreducible factors in the decomposition of f(x). These bounds for the Fitting height are stronger than the well-known bounds in terms of the composition length α(|φ|) of 〈φ〉 when deg⁡f(x) or irr(f(x)) is small in comparison with α(|φ|).

Abstract:By developing a tangible way to decompose unipotent radicals into irreducible submodules of Singer cycles, we achieve a classification of solvable factors of finite classical groups of Lie type. This completes previous work on factorizations of classical groups with a solvable factor. In particular, it resolves the final uncertain case in the long-standing problem of determining exact factorizations of almost simple groups. As a byproduct of the classification, we also obtain a new characterization of one-dimensional transitive groups, offering further insights into their group structure.

Abstract:A chief factor HI/K of G is called a F-central in G provided (H/K) x (G/C-G(H/K)) is an element of F. A normal subgroup N of G is said to be pi F-hypercentral in G if either N = 1 or N not equal 1 and every chief factor of G below N of order divisible by at least one prime in pi is F-central in G. The symbol Z(pi F)(G) denotes the pi F-hypercentre of G, that is, the product of all the normal pi F-hypercentral subgroups of G. We say that a subgroup H of G is pi F-embedded in G if there exists a normal subgroup T of G such that HT is s-quasinormal in G and (H boolean AND T)H-G/H-G <= Z(pi F) (G/H-G), where H-G is the maximal normal subgroup of G contained in H. In this paper, we use the pi F-embedded subgroups to determine the structures of finite groups. In particular, we give some new characterizations of p-nilpotency and supersolvability of a group.

Abstract:The existence of a solvable non-normal Fitting class F which is not a Lockett class but for which the Lockett Conjecture still holds are studied. We also prove that there exists an ω-local Fitting class F which does not satisfy the Lockett conjecture but the Lockett conjecture still holds under a given condition. As a consequence of our result, a generalized version of the Lausch's problem in the well-known Kourovka Notebook is answered.
