Abstract:We derive interior curvature bounds for admissible solutions of a class of curvature equations subject to affine Dirichlet data, generalizing a well-known estimate of Pogorelov for equations of Monge-Ampere type. For equations for which convexity of the solution is the natural ellipticity assumption, the curvature bound is proved for solutions with C-1,C-1 Dirichlet data. We also use the curvature bounds to improve and extend various existence results for the Dirichlet and Plateau problems.

Abstract:Let ( M n , g ) be an n -dimensional complete Riemannian manifold. We consider gradient estimates for the positive solutions to the following nonlinear parabolic equation: u_t=Δ u+aulog u+bu on M n × [0, T ], where a , b are two real constants. We derive local gradient estimates of the Li-Yau type for positive solutions of the above equations on Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below. As applications, several parabolic Harnack inequalities are obtained. In particular, our results extend the ones of Davies in Heat Kernels and Spectral Theory, Cambridge Tracts in Mathematics, vol 92, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge,1989, and Li and Xu in Adv Math 226:4456–4491 ( 2011 ).

Abstract:Let M be a noncompact complete Riemannian manifold. In this paper, we consider the following nonlinear parabolic equation on M u_t(x,t)=Δ u(x,t) + a u(x,t)ln u(x,t) + bu^α(x,t). We prove a Li–Yau type gradient estimate for positive solutions to the above equation; as an application, we also derive the corresponding Harnack inequality. These results generalize the corresponding ones proved by Li (J Funct Anal 100:233–256, 1991 ).

Abstract:In this paper we study gradient estimates for the positive solutions of the porous medium equation: \documentclass[12pt]{minimal}\usepackage{amsmath}\usepackage{wasysym}\usepackage{amsfonts}\usepackage{amssymb}\usepackage{amsbsy}\usepackage{mathrsfs}\usepackage{upgreek}\setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt}\begin{document}$$u_t=\Delta u^m$$\end{document} where m>1, which is a nonlinear version of the heat equation. We derive local gradient estimates of the Li–Yau type for positive solutions of porous medium equations on Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below. As applications, several parabolic Harnack inequalities are obtained. In particular, our results improve the ones of Lu, Ni, Vázquez, and Villani (in J. Math. Pures Appl. 91:1–19, 2009). Moreover, our results recover the ones of Davies (in Cambridge Tracts Math vol. 92, 1989), Hamilton (in Comm. Anal. Geom. 1:113–125, 1993) and Li and Xu (in Adv. Math. 226:4456–4491, 2011).

We obtain the Li-Yau type bounds of the above equation, which cover the estimates in Davies (Heat kernels and spectral theory 1989 ), Huang et al. (Ann Glob Anal Geom 43:209–232, 2013 ), Li and Xu (Adv Math 226:4456–4491, 2011 ) and Qian (J Math Anal Appl 409:556–566, 2014 ). Besides, as a corollary, we give a gradient estimate for the corresponding elliptic case: Δ _V u + au log u = 0, which improves the estimates in Chen and Chen (Ann Glob Anal Geom 35:397–404, 2009 ) and Yang ( Proc AMS 136(11):4095–4102, 2008 ).

Abstract:In this paper, by maximum principle and cutoff function, we investigate gradient estimates for positive solutions to two nonlinear parabolic equations under Ricci flow. The related Harnack inequalities are deduced. An result about positive solutions on closed manifolds under Ricci flow is abtained. As applications, gradient estimates and Harnack inequalities for positive solutions to the heat equation under Ricci flow are derived. These results in the paper can be regard as generalizing the gradient estimates of Li-Yau, J. Y. Li, Hamilton and Li-Xu to the Ricci flow. Our results also improve the estimates of S. P. Liu and J. Sun to the nonlinear parabolic equation under Ricci flow.

Abstract:In this short note, we hope to give a rapid induction for non-experts into the world of Differential Harnack inequalities, which have been so influential in geometric analysis and probability theory over the past few decades. At the coarsest level, these are often mysterious-looking inequalities that hold for `positive' solutions of some parabolic PDE, and can be verified quickly by grinding out a computation and applying a maximum principle. In this note we emphasise the geometry behind the Harnack inequalities, which typically turn out to be assertions of the convexity of some natural object. As an application, we explain how Hamilton's Differential Harnack inequality for mean curvature flow of a $n$-dimensional submanifold of $R^{n+1}$ can be viewed as following directly from the well-known preservation of convexity under mean curvature flow, but this time of a $(n+1)$-dimensional submanifold of $R^{n+2}$. We also briefly survey the earlier work that led us to these observations.

Abstract:In this paper we prove some Hamilton type and Li-Yau type gradient estimates on positive solutions to generalized nonlinear parabolic equations on smooth metric measure space with compact boundary. The geometry of the space in terms of lower bounds on the weighted Bakry-Emery Ricci curvature tensor and weighted mean curvature of the boundary are key in proving generalized local and global gradient estimates. Various applications of these gradient estimates in terms of parabolic Harnack inequalities and Liouville type results are discussed. Further consequences to some specific models informed by the nature of the nonlinearities are highlighted.

Abstract:This article presents new local and global gradient estimates of Li-Yau type for positive solutions to a class of nonlinear elliptic equations on smooth metric measure spaces involving the Witten Laplacian. The estimates are derived under natural lower bounds on the associated Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature tensor and find utility in proving general Harnack inequalities and Liouville-type theorems to mention a few. The results here unify, extend and improve various existing results in the literature for special nonlinearities already of huge interest and applications. Some important consequences are presented and discussed.

This contrasts Olivé's gradient estimate, which works mainly for the heat equation rather than nonlinear parabolic equations and the result can be regarded as a generalization of the Li-Yau [P. Li, S. T. Yau, On the parabolic kernel of the Schrödinger operator, Acta Math., 156 (1986), 153–201] and Olivé [X. R. Abstract:In this paper we prove gradient estimates of both elliptic and parabolic types, specifically, of Souplet-Zhang, Hamilton and Li-Yau types for positive smooth solutions to a class of nonlinear parabolic equations involving the Witten or drifting Laplacian on smooth metric measure spaces. These estimates are established under various curvature conditions and lower bounds on the generalised Bakry-Émery Ricci tensor and find utility in proving elliptic and parabolic Harnack-type inequalities as well as general Liouville-type and other global constancy results. Several applications and consequences are presented and discussed.

Abstract:In this paper we consider the gradient estimates on positive solutions to the following elliptic (Lichnerowicz) equation defined on a complete Riemannian manifold $(M,\,g)$: $$\Delta v + \mu v + a v^{p+1} +b v^{-q+1} =0,$$ where $p\geq-1$, $q\geq1$, $\mu$, $a$ and $b$ are real constants. In the case $\mu\geq0$ and $b\geq0$ or $\mu<0$ , $a>0$ and $b>0$ ($\mu$ has a lower bound), we employ the Nash-Moser iteration technique to obtain some refined gradient estimates of the solutions to the above equation, if $(M,\,g)$ satisfies $Ric \geq -(n-1)\kappa$ , where $n\geq3$ is the dimension of $M$ and $\kappa$ is a nonnegative constant, and $\mu$ , $a$ , $b$ , $p$ and $q$ satisfy some technique conditions. By the obtained gradient estimates we also derive some Liouville type theorems for the above equation under some suitable geometric and analysis conditions. As applications, we can derive some Cheng-Yau's type gradient estimates for solutions to the $n$-dimensional Einstein-scalar field Lichnerowicz equation where $n\geq3$.
