Abstract:Distributed electro-hydraulic braking systems (DEHB) are brake-by-wire systems for new energy and intelligent vehicles. Brake actuators control the system braking pressure, so the pressure control of the brake actuator is a key part of the system. The research objective of this study is to achieve fast, stable and accurate system pressure control. A pressure control actuator is tested in bench tests, including open-loop and close-loop tests. In the open-loop tests, the highest braking pressure generated by the actuator exceeds 12 MPa with 160 ms needed for the pressure to rise to 10 MPa. The tests show that the open-loop performance of the brake actuator meets the open-loop specifications. A gain-scheduling proportional integral (PI) controller is used for the close-loop pressure control. The rise time for step responses under 6.5 MPa is less than 161 ms, the time lag for an 8 Hz sine response under 6 MPa is less than 17.8 ms, the step response overshoot is less than the minimum of 0.5 MPa and 15% of the step amplitude, and the root-mean-square errors for normal and pumped braking are less than 0.1 MPa and 0.2 MPa. Thus, the tests show that the response speed as well as the stability and accuracy of the pressure control satisfies the close-loop specifications. Tests on stalling of the actuator motor for half an hour show that the heat dissipation of the electronic control unit circuit board is good, which indicates that the electronic control unit circuit board can continuously work with large currents.
