Abstract:A pr-actical and simple approach of achieving a high pulse repetition frequency fiber-coupled laserdiode device is demonstrated both by experiment and TRACEPRO software simulation, which is obtained by beam collimating, spatial beam combining, and polarization beam combining based on multiple cycle-emitting pulsed laser-diode emitters. Using this method, fiber-coupled laser-diode module output pulse repetition frequency from the multimode fiber with 200-mu m core diameter and 0.22 numerical aperture can reach 300 kHz, and the coupling efficiency is beyond 72%. Abstract:A compact LCD projection display system and its optical performance are discussed in this paper. In order to improve optical performance, two flyingeye lens have been employed in the system. It can improve the brightness uniformity of display image. Also, a polarized light transformer, which involves two functions: polarizing light radiation and converting unpolarized light into the same polarization direction light beam for LCD panels, has been developed to increase the optical efficiency and contrast ratio. Moreover, color separation and combination system has been designed and developed. Under these construction, the system with good optical performance and outstanding picture quality has been achieved.

Abstract:A laser-diode-based white lighting module is fabricated via spectral component optimization, which can achieve both high luminous flux and high color rendering index (CRI). In this work, the laser module is constituted by blue laser diodes (LDs) which excite YAG:Ce-Al2O3 and red LDs that can compensate for the lack of red spectrum to improve the CRI of the light source. To fulfill the requirements of flexibility and compactness of light source, the blue and red LDs beams are combined by optical fiber coupling. A simulation framework is employed to optimize the dominant wavelength of red LDs and the power ratio of red to blue LDs. According to the results of the integrating sphere, high luminous flux of 1102 lm and high CRI of 77.8 are achieved simultaneously, which is consistent with the simulation results. The tunable correlated color temperature (CCT) varying from 4000 K to 2800 K and high angular color uniformity (ACU) can be obtained.

Abstract:The green-emissive laser phosphor is urgently demanded for projection displays to compensate the "Green Gap." Herein, the well-known beta-SiAlON:Eu2+ with admirable luminescent feature is incorporated into robust silicate glass matrix, cosintered on sapphire plate, and then constructed into "phosphor wheel," succeeding in retaining excellent green-emissive performance and meanwhile relieving the luminescence droop at high pumping density of blue laser. Probing the local effect of laser-matter interaction reveals that the luminescence saturation is majorly determined by thermal quenching, but the influence of intensity quenching cannot be ignored. Systematical works are performed to optimize glass composition, cosintering procedure, sample parameters, and optical path, turning out the maximal quantum efficiency of 60%, thermal conductivity of 9.5 W m(-1) K-1, and high saturation threshold far beyond 22 W mm(-2). In a proof-of-concept experiment, accompanied with red laser diode, the constructed light engine yields a high brightness with luminous flux of 1310 lm (luminance of 880 Mcd m(-2)), a low etendue of approximate to 1.5 mm(2), and a wide color gamut of 112.5% National Television System Committee (NTSC), demonstrating the composite material as an efficient laser-driven color converter for projection displays.

Abstract:The projection products of pure laser sources arc one of the future trends in the development of display technology. In order to use multiple laser diodes as the light source to achieve high power uniform illumination, a laser illumination system is designed in this paper. Two lenses and a round rod arc added before the uniform illumination system based on the freeform surface array to further improve the uniformity of target surface. The laser array is collimated and then converged into a round rod for transmission. After being collimated by the lens, it passes through the freeform surface array and is converged on the target surface by the field lens to form a uniform illumination area. With the help of software simulation, it is found that the uniformity of the target surface increased from 77.59% to 90.99% after mixing the light with the round rod. In addition, the shape of the freeform array unit is studied. The experimental results show that, compared with the square structure unit, the freeform surface unit with the same aspect ratio as the target surface can get better uniformity.

Abstract:The pumping of Tm-doped crystal or fiber by a 792 nm semiconductor laser is an important way to generate a mid-infrared laser, which is widely used in various fields. In this paper, a high–power 792 nm fiber–coupled semiconductor laser module was successfully fabricated with the output power of 232 W at a 10 A continuous current and the electro-optic conversion efficiency of 48.6%. The laser module is coupled with 24 chips into a fiber by spatial multiplexing and polarization combination technology. For a single emitting laser chip, the continuous wave (CW) output power and threshold current are 10.45 W at 10 A and 1.55 A, respectively. A polarization as high as 94% can also be realized, which is more suitable for laser spatial beam combining. The laser module was aged for more than 4000 h at 12 A and 25 °C without obvious power degradation.

Abstract:Laser 3D display system based on polarization compensated LCOS optical engine take RGB laser with wavelength of 635nm, 532nm and 445nm as the light source, utilize the polarization loss of the traditional LCOS optical engine, realize 3D display and enhance the efficiency of the optical engine when worked in 2D display mode. The polarization compensated LCOS optical engine is mainly composed of two same field-sequential LCOS panels and PBS prisms, RGB laser of different polarization directions entered into optical engine is split into two part with orthogonal linear polarization, each polarization correspond to one of two LCOS panels. In 3D operation, one LCOS panel produces a right-eye image and the other a left-eye image, through the same projection lens, these two images are combined and projected to polarization maintaining metal screen, realize 3D display in single optical engine. When in 2D operation, the same image is presented on each LCOS, producing a double-brightness image on the screen, this improved laser 3D display system realize 3D display, as well as enhance the efficiency of the optical engine when worked in 2D display mode, almost all the light emitted by the lasers is utilized in the process of imaging.

Abstract:The work was dedicated to the laser modules for the spectral range of 975 nm based on single laser diodes with fiber output to be designed and manufactured. The installation of an optical system for the seven laser diodes radiation input into a silica-silica fiber with a core diameter of 105 μm and a numerical aperture of 0.15 has been carried out while investigating their power and spectral characteristics. The maximum output power of the laser module was 65 W in CW operation at a nominal current of 12 A and a thermal stabilization temperature of 25°C, the total efficiency of the laser module was 43%, and the brightness of the laser module amounted to 10.6 MW/(cm 2 sr).

Abstract:Up‐to‐date laser‐driven projection technology puts an urgent demand for green phosphor with stringent requirements on its performance. Herein, by virtue of a new architecture design based on CsPbBr3‐glass nanocomposite, i.e., CsPbBr3 glass ceramic film sintered on sapphire plate, the application availability of this famous green‐emitting phosphor is demonstrated in laser‐driven projection. The mono‐dispersed perovskite CsPbBr3 nanostructure in amorphous glass matrix and the negligible thermal corrosion during co‐sintering with low‐melting‐glass ensure good luminescent properties. The robust glass host and the carried sapphire substrate with high thermal conductivity contribute to good resistances to thermal shock, moisture, and blue laser irradiation. It is revealed that the thermal accumulation effect is relieved due to the pulsed excitation of rotatory “phosphor wheel,” and so the luminescence saturation threshold gets increased. The constructed prototype lighting source yields a low étendue of ≈0.41 mm2, a wide color gamut of 128.4% NTSC (95.9% Rec. 2020), and a moderate luminous flux of 174 lm. The present work highlights an unprecedented design that makes the seemingly impossible application of CsPbBr3 come true.

Abstract:Especially for displays, visible-wavelength lasers are in high demand for a wide range of applications. Active research and development have been devoted to laser-based displays over the past six decades, but the technology's commercial viability has been limited primarily by the high cost and bulk of laser sources. Owing to their reliability, cost-effectivity, and high efficiency, fiber lasers are rapidly becoming the preferred technology for displays. Advances in visible fiber laser techniques, such as nonlinear conversion, upconversion pumping, and direct pumping, are addressed in detail in this review. The potential of visible rare-earth-doped fiber lasers to generate high-power continuous-wave (CW) emission at wavelengths of red, green, blue, and yellow (RGBY) is encouraging, given the recent developments in newly designed active fibers, dielectric end-coated fiber technology, and high-brightness GaN pump diodes. Following this, constraints on the scaling of power in visible fiber lasers are analyzed and discussed. Finally, potential applications of visible fiber lasers as a light source in display technologies are discussed.

Abstract:We demonstrate a fully packaged 10-λ WDM integrated module based on visible light laser diodes. A data-rate of 110.79Gbps can be achieved in 17.5cm free-space and 1.5m fiber link. The experimental results show the potential applications in high-speed indoor access networks and data center interconnect.

Abstract:Abstract Laser‐driven projection display puts forward urgent demand for color converter materials to simultaneously achieve balanced‐spectrum properties and strong heat dissipation. Herein, this work develops a novel optofunctional composite by coupling Y 3 Al 5 O 12 :Ce 3+ transparent ceramics (TC) with CaAlSiN 3 :Eu 2+ phosphor‐in‐glass film (PiGF) for the first time. Remarkably, this new material architecture design enables a balance between the spectrum properties and heat dissipation ability, and can yield high‐quality white light with brightness of over 2500 lm, luminous efficacy (LE) of over 200 lm W −1 , correlated color temperature (CCT) of 3700–4100 K, and improved color rendering index (CRI) of 60–70. Furthermore, the PiGF@TC‐converted laser projection system is also successfully designed, showing natural and real color restoration. Additionally, the combined action of thermal quenching and optical excitation intensity quenching is confirmed for the luminescence saturation upon high‐power blue laser driven. The main mechanism of optical quenching is identified to be energy upconversion dominated by second‐order nonlinear processes. The findings described here suggest a step toward developing the admirable laser‐driven color converters for next‐generation lighting sources.

Abstract:The escalating demand for greater transmission capacities in the forthcoming 6 G communication landscapes necessitates the investigation of upper segments of the electromagnetic spectrum by both academic institutions and the industrial sector. This effort aims to circumvent the impending spectrum resource limitations. Against this backdrop, laser diodes (LDs) emerge as a critical technology for high-speed visible light communication (VLC), owing to their significant modulation bandwidth potential. This paper details what we believe to be a novel visible light laser communication (VLLC) system powered by red/green/blue (RGB) tricolor laser diodes. It highlights a successful 100-meter free-space transmission achieved through a time domain hybrid huffman coding (TDHHC) technique. The system's performance review unveiled impressive data transmission rates for the red, green, and blue laser diodes channels at 16.852 Gbps, 14.442 Gbps, and 15.755 Gbps, respectively, culminating in a cumulative transmission rate of 47.049 Gbps while maintaining a bit error rate (BER) beneath the stringent threshold of 3.8E-3, mandated by 7% hard decision forward error correction (HD-FEC) standards. As far as we known, this marks the highest data rate documented in a long-distance tricolor VLLC system.

Abstract:White light generation by mixing red, green, and blue laser diodes (RGB LDs) was demonstrated with Commission International de l'Eclairage coordinates of (0.2928, 0.2981), a correlated color temperature of 8382 K, and a color rendering index of 54.4 to provide a maximal illuminance of 7540 lux. All the white lights generated using RGB LDs were set within the risk group-1 criterion to avoid the blue-light hazard to human eyes. In addition, the RGB-LD mixed white light was diffused using a frosted glass to avoid optical aberration and to improve the performance of the lighting source. In addition, visible light communication (VLC) by using RGB-LD mixed white-light carriers and a point-to-point scheme over 1 m was performed in the directly modulated 16-QAM OFDM data format. In back-to-back transmission, the maximal allowable data rate at 10.8, 10.4, and 8 Gbps was determined for R, G, and B LDs, respectively. Moreover, the RGB-LD mixed white light-based indoor wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM)-VLC system yielded a total allowable transmission data rate of 8.8 Gbps over 0.5 m in free space. Such a high-speed RGB-LD mixed WDM-VLC system without any channel interference can be used to simultaneously provide data transmission and white lighting in an indoor environment.

Abstract:An InGaAs/GaAs strained quantum well structure semiconductor laser diode with an emission wavelength of 880 nm was grown to achieve linear polarized laser outputs with high powers and better beam quality.Based on the PICS 3D software,Laser Diode Arrays(LDA) with a stripe width of 100 μm and filling factor of 50% was fabricated.The output power of 1 cm bars on conductively cooled package with continuous wave(CW) reaches to 60.8 W at a current of 70 A,the threshold current is 11.1 A and the peak wavelength is 878 nm with a Full Width Half Maximum(FWHM)of 2.4 nm.To improve the beam quality and increase the end pumping power of the DLA,a pair of micro step-mirrors were developed to shape the laser beams come from the high power DLA,and then a high power optical fiber couple module was developed.Results show that the couple module with a core diameter of 400 μm and a Number Aperture(NA) of 0.22 can offer the output power of 44.9 W and couple efficiency of 73.8%.

Abstract:An optical fiber bundle array coupling module with high output power is proposed. The device integrates the coupling technique of the high power laser diode array (LDA) and the flat end-surfaces of fiber array. This module can efficiently couple the output laser of the LDA into the 19-fiber array through the flat-end surface. The fibers are ordinally fixed precisely on the V-grooves, and the fiber array has the same arrange period with the semiconductor laser units of LDA. A cylindrical fiber lens is fixed at the front of the LDA, which will greatly reduce the divergence of the laser beam and assure the laser beam to totally pass through into the end surface of fibers. High output power of 33.2 W of the fiber optic coupling of LDA is achieved, and maximal coupling efficiency is 84%.

Abstract:Laser display becomes a critical technique for the development of next-generation display technology because of its large color gamut, long lifetime, and environment-friendly attributes. Red semiconductor laser diodes form the core light sources of laser displays. With the rapid development of the laser display industry, the demand for high-power red semiconductor laser diodes also increases. Currently, industrial research is focused on increasing the output power and improving the beam quality of the device. Herein, we introduce the basic principles and technical difficulties associated with the high-power red semiconductor laser diodes. Further, we summarize the research status and progress with respect to the usage of red semiconductor laser diodes for laser display at home and abroad. We also analyze the future development directions and prospects for the application of red semiconductor laser diodes.

Abstract:In this letter, we packaged a DFB laser diode chip and a thin film LiNbO 3 modulator chip in a single shell through hybrid integration, and formed an integrated laser emission module. This module exhibits an output power of 15.6mW, an optical insertion loss of 5.60dB, a linewidth of 15.2kHz, a 3dB bandwidth of 36.7GHz. And at 10GHz, it exhibits an 1dB compression point of 13.0dBm, a gain of -39.8dB, an input third-order intercept point of 26.9dBm, and a spurious-free dynamic range of 89.9dB·Hz 3/2 .
