Abstract:A novel red emitting coordination polymer (CP), [Cu(tpp)center dot H2O](2n) (1) [Htpp - 1-(4-tetrazol-5 "-yl) benzyl-3-( pyraziny-l) pyrazole], has been successfully constructed using a nitrogen heterocyclic ring ligand and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared (IR) studies, elemental analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). 1 is a rare 3D supramolecular assembly based on a 1D polymeric chain substructure of {Cu2N4} bridged by the Htpp ligand, which is propagated to form an extended 3D structure with the help of pi-pi stacking and C-H center dot center dot center dot pi hydrogen-bonded packing. Based on the phosphorescence of Cu(I)-CP, 1 is chosen as a probe for sensing different small molecules and metal ions. The luminescence properties of 1 well dispersed in different solvents have been investigated systematically, which demonstrates distinct solvent-dependent luminescence spectra with emission intensities that are significantly quenched by acetone (detection limit: 0.0842 vol%). Besides that, 1 with open Lewis basic nitrogen atoms on the chain surface was exploited for the binding and specific sensing of metal ions via Lewis base interactions, and shows high selectivity and sensitivity (K-sv = 4.6 X 10(4) L mol(-1)) for Fe3+ ions with luminescence quenching. Solid-state 1 displays excellent red lighting properties, which can be comparable with rare earth compounds. Subsequently, 1 blended poly(methyl methacrylate) PMMA film demonstrates comparable intensity with the solid state at concentrations of 1.5%, accompanied by an improvement of the luminescence lifetimes.

Abstract:The contamination of heavy metal ions in the aqueous environment constitutes an important threat to human survival. Hence, the development of simple, effective, and cheap detection of heavy metals and pesticide residues is essential for environmental control. Here, we synthesized a yellow carbon dots-linked ZIF-8 (yCDs/ZIF-8) composite, which was prepared with excellent photoluminescence properties and aqueous stability, and characterized by strong yellow fluorescence emission. The ratio metric fluorescence sensor has been constructed using its stable light blue carbon dots. The fluorescence sensor has excellent selectivity and sensitivity as a sensing probe for Fe3+ ions, with a detection limit of 0.3690 μM. In addition, the fluorescence quench mechanism was investigated. It has been shown that the yCDs/ZIF-8 fluorescence could be quenched by Fe3+ via static quenching and absorption competition mechanisms. The probe has high-quality application potential in terms of food safety and environmental monitoring due to the fact of its simplicity, high yield, and low cost.

Abstract:Two metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), namely {[Zn3(L)2(4,4′-bipy)(DMF)2]·2H2O}n (1) and {[Cd3(L)2(4,4′-bipy)(H2O)2].2DMF}n (2) (4,4′-bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide), were solvothermally prepared based on a rigid tricarboxylic acid 3-(3,5-dicarboxylphenyl)-5-(3-carboxylphenyl)-1-H-1,2,4-triazole (H3L). X-ray crystallographic analysis reveals that 1 and 2 are isostructural and both emit blue light. Notably, 1 exhibits good luminescent sensing for nitro-containing compounds and Fe3+ ions. In addition, the emission colors of 1 can be tuned from yellow to white and to blue by encapsulating different mole ratios of Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions and changing the excitation wavelength. A white emission with the Commission International de l’Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.331, 0.337), which fall within the white-light region, emerges upon excitation at 340nm.

Abstract:Fluorescent detection is a new spectroscopic measurement for ions sensing due to the advantages of real-time determination with high selectivity, accuracy, and low cost. However, chemosensors based on fluorescent detection are usually determined by absolute intensity from a monochromatic emission signal, which is easy to be fluctuated by the external environment, especially for Fe(3+)detection in complex fluids. Herein, we rationally design a dual-emission Eu3+: CDs@ZIF-8 to construct a ratiometric fluorescent sensor with self-calibrating ability for Fe(3+)determination. High efficient carbon dots (CDs) are embedded in europium ions (Eu3+)-doped MOF by simple stirring preparation at room temperature. The label-free ratiometric fluorescent probe (ICDs@ZIF-8/I-Eu) exhibits simultaneous blue and red emission under the same excitation at 365 nm. Remarkably, Eu3+: CDs@ZIF-8 displays the superiority of high selectivity to Fe3+, which shows ratiometric fluorescence characteristics (I-0/I) in a range of 0-6 mu mol\L with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.897 mu mol\L. Besides, the CDs-MOF nanocomposite holds good aqueous dispersibility and low cytotoxicity, which shows great potential applications in medical aid including biological detection and clinical diagnosis.

Abstract:A novel metal-organic framework {[In 3 (TATAT) 2 ]·3CH 3 NH 3 ·7NMF·8H 2 O}[JLU-MOF101, H 6 TATAT=5,5′,5′′-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyl) tris-(azanediyl)triisophthalate, NMF= N -methylformamide] with cor topology has been synthesized under solvothermal conditions. The framework of JLU-MOF101 is constructed by {In(COO) 4 } − nodes and a hexacarboxylic organic ligand. JLU-MOF101 exhibits excellent fluorescence properties in N, N -dimethylformamide(DMF) solution, and its emission spectrum can be greatly overlapped with the ultraviolet absorption spectra of trinitrophenol(TNP) and 2,4-dinitrophenol(2,4-DNP). As a result, JLU-MOF101 exhibits excellent performance of fluorescence quenching for TNP and 2,4-DNP. In addition, we demonstrate the selective detection capability of JLU-MOF101 through a large number of anti-interference tests.

Abstract:A new coordination polymer, namely, [Cd2(L)(bimid)(DMF)2]·(DMF) (1), was solvothermally prepared in the presence of the flexible tetrahedral carboxylate ligand tetrakis[(4-carboxyphenyl)oxamethyl]-methane acid (H4L) and benzimidazole (bimid) ligand. The compound possesses 2-fold interpenetrating 3D frameworks, and there are uncoordinated nitrogen atoms of imidazole groups in the framework. Topological analysis reveals that complex 1 is a classical 4-connected diamond (dia) net. Compound 1 exhibited strong blue fluorescence emission at room temperature upon excitation. Fluorescence titration shows the emission intensity of the compound 1 varied upon contacting with different solvents or analytes, exhibiting selective emission quenching responses towards Fe3+ ion and nitroaromatics which suggests that compound 1 is a dual-responsive luminescent sensor material for Fe3+ ion and nitroaromatics.

Abstract:Special recognition sites in luminescent covalent organic frameworks (LCOFs) are extremely important to improve the selectivity of detection. Herein, we report on a novel LCOF named TFBD-Py-COF with three-in-one recognition traps composed of hydrogen bonding, reversible protonation of N and O–H⋯NC chelating unit. TFBD-Py-COF is synthesized via 3,3′,5,5′-tetraformyl-4,4′biphenyldiol (TFBD) and 4,4′,4′′,4′′′-(pyrene-1,3,6,8-tetrayl) tetra aniline (PyTTA), which has a two-dimensional dual rhombic pore structure based on AA stacking with the pore diameters of 0.88 and 1.38 nm. The hydroxyl group of TFBD-Py-COF can form hydrogen bonds with imines and induce the trans conformation of the mesoimine, as evidenced by the single crystal structure of the model compound. TFBD-Py-COF exhibits good chemical and thermal stability with a high BET surface area of 750 m2 g−1. TFBD-Py-COF shows visible fluorescent color from blue to green when dispersed in different organic solvents. TFBD-Py-COF has the fluorescence chemo-sensing ability for nitro-pesticides based on electron transfer-induced fluorescence quenching mechanism, allowing a high sensitivity and low detection limit of 4.0 × 10−2 ppm for p-nitroaniline. In addition, TFBD-Py-COF shows reversible acidochromic behaviors and concomitant distinct fluorescent color change due to the protonation of the imine N. Furthermore, the fluorescence of TFBD-Py-COF is selectively quenched by Fe3+ with a Ksv of 1.1 × 104 and a detection limit of 0.2 μM, owing to the coordination of Fe3+ with the O–H⋯NC chelating unit. This study demonstrates great potential of LCOFs for multifunctional detection.

Abstract:Two novel metal-organic frameworks, formulated as [Mn(CIP-)2] (1) and [Ag(CIP-)] (2) (HCIP = 4-(4-carboxylphenyl)-2,6-di(4-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl)pyridine), were solvothermally synthesized based on a pyridyl-imidazole-carboxyl multifunctional ligand. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that complex 1 is a 3D microporous framework with uncoordinated imidazole groups, and complex 2 is a 2D + 2D → 2D 3-fold parallel interpenetrated network. Complex 1 exhibited excellent CO2 selective absorption over N2 and CH4. IAST calculations revealed that the selectivities of 1 for the CO2/CH4 (50 : 50) and CO2/N2 (15 : 85) mixtures were 8.0 and 117 at 273 K under 1 bar, respectively. Moreover, the luminescence investigations displayed that complex 2 is an excellent MOF-based multiresponsive fluorescent probe for Fe3+, CrO42-/Cr2O72- and the pesticide 2,6-Dich-4-nitroaniline, with high selectivity and sensitivity. Notably, complex 2 exhibited a highly sensitive sensing ability (5.2 × 104 M-1) and a low detection limit (1.7 × 10-7 M) for 2,6-Dich-4-nitroaniline. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first Ag-MOF-based fluorescent sensor that can simultaneously detect metal ions, inorganic anions and pesticides.

Abstract:The reaction of Zn(NO3)(2)center dot 6H(2)O/Cd(NO3)(2)center dot 4H(2)O with a semi-flexible ligand 4'-(4-(3,5-dicarboxylphenoxy) phenyl)-4,2': 6',4"-terpyridine (H(2)dbp) gave two new metal-organic frameworks of [Zn(dbp)](n) (1) and [Cd(dbp)(H2O)center dot 2H(2)O center dot CH3CN](n) (2). Single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that both 1 and 2 show three-dimensional, two-fold interpenetrating four-connected networks with 4(4).6(10).8 topology. The photoluminescence investigation indicates that both 1 and 2 could be prospective candidates for developing luminescence sensors for the sensing of Mn2+, Cr2O72- and nitroaromatic analytes. Furthermore, the photocatalysis properties of 1-2 for the degradation of methyl violet and rhodamine B were examined.

Abstract:Herein, we develop a novel method to synthesize lanthanide-functionalized carbon quantum dots via free-radical copolymerization using the methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer as a functional monomer and introducing a lanthanide complex to obtain the dual-emission fluorescent composite material FCQDs-Ln(TFA)3 (Ln = Eu, Tb; TFA: trifluoroacetylacetone). The obtained composites were fully characterized, and their structures were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H NMR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Subsequently, a series of white-light-emitting polymer composite films FCQDs- (Eu:Tb)(TFA)3/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were designed and synthesized by adjusting the ratio of Eu(TFA)3/Tb(TFA)3 under different wavelengths. More significantly, FCQDs-Tb(TFA)3 was selected as a sensitive probe for sensing metal cations due to excellent photoluminescence properties, revealing a unique capability of FCQDs-Tb(TFA)3 of detecting Fe(III) cations with high efficiency and selectivity. Furthermore, the sensing experiment results indicated that FCQDs-Tb(TFA)3 is ideal as a fluorescent nanoprobe for Fe3+ ion detection, and the lowest detection limit for Fe3+ is 0.158 μM, which is superior to many other previous related research studies. This pioneering work provides a new idea and method for constructing a dual-emission ratio sensor based on carbon quantum dots and also extends the potential application in the biological and environmental fields.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:By using the octadentate ligand tetrakis[(3,5-dicarboxyphenoxy) methyl] methane (H8L), a rare (4,8)-scu type microporous coordination polymer, [In2L][NH2(CH3)(2)](2)center dot(DMF)(4)(H2O)(16), was synthesized and structurally characterized. The compound possesses an anionic three-dimensional open framework and exhibits permanent porosity with selective gas adsorption of CO2 over CH4. It exhibited strong fluorescence emission upon excitation at RT, and a selective, efficient emission quenching response towards nitroaromatic explosives.

Abstract:By incorporating a cationic dye within a metal-organic framework (MOF) through an ion-exchange process, a responsive dye@bio-MOF-1 composite has been synthesized, serving as a dual-emitting platform for enhanced detection of different kinds of nitro-explosives, especially nitroalkanes, nitramines, and nitrate esters. The dye@bio-MOF-1 composite was constructed with free amines on their well-defined cavities, which is essential for the capture of explosives into their confined nanospace. It was observed that the encapsulation of explosives into the constructed dye@bio-MOF-1 composite could dramatically alter the luminescent properties of the dyes as well as the MOF skeletons owing to the size exclusivity and confinement-induced effect. For nitroaromatics, the dye@bio-MOF-1 composite exhibits turn-off responses via fluorescence quenching. Unexpectedly, the composite shows unique turn-on responses for aliphatic nitro-organics via confinement-induced enhancement, demonstrating enhanced ability to detecting different kinds of explosives selectively in aqueous solution. Furthermore, the dye@bio-MOF-1 film was facilely fabricated, making the chemical sensing more convenient and easier to realize the discrimination of the targeted explosives. The dual tunable responses indicate that dye@bio-MOF-1 composites are favorable materials for molecular sensing. On the basis of the host-guest properties of the constructed dye@bio-MOF-1 composite, our work can be further extended to sensing specific analytes with remarkable turn-on sensing properties, in particular those difficult to recognize with conventional methods.

Abstract:A stable porous carbazole-based luminescent metal-organic framework, NENU-522, was successfully constructed. It is extremely stable in air and acidic/basic aqueous solutions, which provides the strategy for luminescent material encapsulation of Ln(3+) ions with tunable luminescence for application in light emission. More importantly, Ln(3+)@NENU-522 can emit white light by encapsulating different molar ratios of Eu(3+) and Tb(3+) ions. Additionally, Tb(3+)@NENU-522 is found to be useful as a fluorescent indicator for the qualitative and quantitative detection of nitroaromatic explosives with different numbers of -NO2 groups, and the concentrations of complete quenching are about 2000, 1000, and 80 ppm for nitrobenzene, 1,3-dinitrobenzene, and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol, respectively. Meanwhile, Tb(3+)@NENU-522 displays high selectivity and recyclability in the detection of nitroaromatic explosives.
