Abstract:By using the octadentate ligand tetrakis[(3,5-dicarboxyphenoxy) methyl] methane (H8L), a rare (4,8)-scu type microporous coordination polymer, [In2L][NH2(CH3)(2)](2)center dot(DMF)(4)(H2O)(16), was synthesized and structurally characterized. The compound possesses an anionic three-dimensional open framework and exhibits permanent porosity with selective gas adsorption of CO2 over CH4. It exhibited strong fluorescence emission upon excitation at RT, and a selective, efficient emission quenching response towards nitroaromatic explosives.

Abstract:A microporous metal–organic framework (MOF) Eu3(MFDA)4(NO3)(DMF)3 (1, H2MFDA = 9,9-dimethylfluorene-2,7-dicarboxylic acid) has been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. 1 is a three-dimensional coordination polymer with pcu type rod-packing structure, through which 1D rhombic channels penetrate. The solvent-free form 1a could be obtained by direct heating of 1. Both 1 and 1a exhibit high intensity red light emissions with high quantum yields and long luminescence lifetimes when excited at 336 nm at ambient temperature. The potential of 1a for nitro explosive sensing is studied through luminescence quenching experiments, which show that 1a is a potential luminescent sensory material for nitro explosives.

Abstract:A new 3D metal-organic framework (MOF), {[Eu2L3(H2O)5]2·3DMF}n (1) has been successfully synthesized via 2-amino-4,4'-biphthalic acid (H2L) and Eu(NO3)3·4H2O by using solvothermal method. For complex 1, the carboxylates bridged two kinds of ions to form double rope one-dimensional chain [Eu(COO)3]n, the adjacent one-dimensional chains are connected to generate three-dimensional structure by adjacent ligands. Luminescent sensing experiments revealed 1 can efficiently detect 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and 2, 4, 6-trinitrophenol (TNP) with excellent sensitivity and selectivity. Additionally, the detection mechanism for these nitro aromatic compounds was further explored by calculations and experiments.

Abstract:The rapid and selective detection of the highly toxic and explosive nitro-containing aromatic compounds has been drawn more and more attention. Herein, a lanthanide-based metal-organic framework (1) was synthesized by incorporating a tetraphenylethylene moiety as the four-point connected node, and exhibits a three-dimensional porous material. This new synthesized MOF exhibits excellent fluorescence activity, due to the ligand-emission effect, and could be regarded as a sensitive and selective fluorescence sensor for p-nitroaniline (NA) over the nitro-containing aromatic compounds with almost complete fluorescence quenching after adding NA into the suspension system. The mechanism of fluorescence sensing process has been also researched by DFT studies and UV–vis adsorption spectra to gain an insight analysis.

Abstract:Nanocrystals of [Eu2(BDC)3(H2O)2]n (1), a lanthanide-containing metal-organic framework (MOF) with a two-dimensional layer structure, were synthesized by using a surfactant-assisted hydothermal method. Nanorods with different sizes were prepared in the presence of a cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide, depending on various reaction times. To demonstrate the ability of 1 nanorods for detection of nitroaromatic explosives, the fluorescence quenching and fluorescence titration experiments were carried out. Fluorescence of 1 nanorods was found to be highly sensitive to the nitroaromatics such as 2-nitrotoluene, 4-nitrotoluene, 2,4-dinitrotoluene, and 2,6-dinitrotoluene, suggesting that lanthanide-containing MOF nanocrystals can be excellent candidates for the rapid detection of nitroaromatic explosives.

Abstract:A chemically stable and thermally stable luminescent Cd(II)-based metal–organic framework (MOF), [Cd3(DBPT)2(H2O)4]·5H2O (1), featuring an open Lewis basic triazolyl active site in the host, was successfully assembled by using the multifunctional ligand of 3-(3,5-dicarboxylphenyl)-5-(4-carboxylphenyl)-1-H-1,2,4-triazole (H3DBPT) to bridge hexanuclear {Cd6} clusters. The host material exhibits ligand-based photoluminescence and solvent-dependent fluorescent intensities, which could selectively detect nitroaromatic compounds (NACs) of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) and 4-nitroaniline (4-NA). The most striking property of 1 is the remarkable sensitivity and selectivity toward TNP and 4-NA even in the presence of other NACs of nitrobenzene (NB), which can be attributed to a photoinduced electron transfer mechanism and resonance energy transfer mechanism. Their photoluminescence quenching could be detected at very low concentrations of 1.14 and 0.70 ppm, respectively, and the maximum quenching efficiencies were found to be 98% and 95%, respectively, at 0.08 mM. Significantly, compound 1 also exhibits excellent sensing performance toward nitroimidazole-based drug molecules of ornidazole (ONZ), metronidazoles (MNZ), dimetridazole (DMZ), and 2-methyl-5-nitroimidazole (2-M-5-MZ), which represents one of the rare MOFs-based fluorescent sensors for simultaneous selective detecting drug molecules and NACs. Their photoluminescence quenching efficiencies increase drastically with the analyte amount even in the low concentration range (<0.15 mM) and reach nearly complete quenching (>95%). The remarkable chemical stability and the unusual sensing performance make this Cd-based MOF a promising multiresponsive sensory material for chemical sensing of NACs and nitroimidazole-based drugs.

Abstract:The metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), {[Cd(L)(H2O)]CH3OHDMF} (1) and [Pb(L)(DMF)] (2) (L = 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde nicotinoylhydrazone), were synthesized and characterized using microanalyses, IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Single crystal X-ray analyses revealed that both 1 and 2 exhibit 2D grid networks. The photoluminescence investigation indicates that 1 and 2 could be a prospective candidate for developing luminescencent sensors for the selective sensing of nitrobenzene, which is used as a precursor for explosives. The luminescent properties of 1 and 2 in different solvents were investigated and corroborated by theoretical calculations. Additionally compounds 1 and 2 also show selective sensing ability for Fe3+ as well as for CrO42- ions.

Abstract:A novel metal-organic framework {[In 3 (TATAT) 2 ]·3CH 3 NH 3 ·7NMF·8H 2 O}[JLU-MOF101, H 6 TATAT=5,5′,5′′-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyl) tris-(azanediyl)triisophthalate, NMF= N -methylformamide] with cor topology has been synthesized under solvothermal conditions. The framework of JLU-MOF101 is constructed by {In(COO) 4 } − nodes and a hexacarboxylic organic ligand. JLU-MOF101 exhibits excellent fluorescence properties in N, N -dimethylformamide(DMF) solution, and its emission spectrum can be greatly overlapped with the ultraviolet absorption spectra of trinitrophenol(TNP) and 2,4-dinitrophenol(2,4-DNP). As a result, JLU-MOF101 exhibits excellent performance of fluorescence quenching for TNP and 2,4-DNP. In addition, we demonstrate the selective detection capability of JLU-MOF101 through a large number of anti-interference tests.

Abstract:By incorporating an anthracene moiety into a framework, a multiresponsive luminescent metal-organic framework (1) has been synthesized, which exhibits both direct chemiluminescence (CL) and dual tunable photoluminescence. By utilizing the CL, 1 has been explored as a selective visual sensor for hydrogen peroxide. Moreover, 1 also exhibits tunable fluorescence response toward different analytes. For electron-rich aromatics, "turn-on" and "turnoff" responses can be simply switched by varying the excitation wavelength. For nitroaromatics, 1 exhibits novel linear quantitative quenching response. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experiments have been carried out to study the unique fluorescence response. The multiple luminescence properties and dual tunable sensing response indicate that incorporating anthracene moieties into frameworks should be a promising strategy to develop unprecedented luminescent materials with remarkable sensing properties.

Abstract:Luminescent open metal sites within a microporous Eu(BTC) (see figure, BTC = benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate) metal-organic framework are used for binding and sensing small molecules. Abstract:Because of serious environmental pollutions, the detection of hazardous and explosive nitro-aromatic compounds using metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has been a promising research field in the current scenario. Here, we report a new fluorescent MOF, [Zn2(TCPE)(tta)2]·2DMF·4H2O·2Me2NH2+ (HNU-34, H4TCPE = 1,1,2,2-tetra(4-carboxylphenyl)ethylene, 1H-tta = 1H-tetrazole), which possesses a three-dimensional configuration and one-dimensional channels along the c-axis. It can serve as a luminescence sensor for the detection of nitrophenol explosives through different quenching effects, especially for mononitrophenol and dinitrophenol. The detection limits of 2,6-dinitrophenol and trinitrophenol are 29.45 and 36.15 nM, respectively, which are among the high level of the reported MOF sensors, especially for dinitrophenol.
