Abstract:This article contains a digest of the theory of electromagnetism and a review of the transformation between inertial frames, especially under low speed limits. The covariant nature of the Maxwell's equations is explained using the conventional language. We show that even under low speed limits, the relativistic effects should not be neglected to get a self-consistent theory of the electromagnetic fields, unless the intrinsic dynamics of these fields has been omitted completely. The quasi-static limits, where the relativistic effects can be partly neglected are also reviewed, to clarify some common misunderstandings and imprecise use of the theory in presence of moving media and other related situations. The discussions presented in this paper provide a clear view of why classical electromagnetic theory is relativistic in its essence.

Abstract:We determine the Lorentz transformations and the kinematic content and dynamical framework of special relativity as purely an extension of Galileo's thoughts. No reference to light is ever required: The theories of relativity are logically independent of any properties of light. The thoughts of Galileo are fully realized in a system of Lorentz transformations with a parameter 1/c^2, some undetermined, universal constant of nature; and are realizable in no other. Isotropy of space plays a deep and pivotal role in all of this, since here three-dimensional space appears at first blush, and persists until the conclusion: Relativity can never correctly be fully developed in just one spatial dimension.

Abstract:We discuss pedagogical problems associated with the conventional approach in teaching relativity and the potential value of "Lorentzian route to relativity" for addressing these pedagogical problems. We think that Lorentzian approach may be valuable part of an introduction to relativity but the historical route should be followed up to its end. It must namely include Einstein's application of Occam's razor in reinterpreting Lorentz transformations kinematically and the discussion of the central role of the evolution from Lorentz's "local time" to relativity of simultaneity. We discuss also what Occam's razor is not and why it should not cut "too deeply or too permanently". Some misleading remarks in relativity text books concerning for example Kennedy Thorndike experiment and Trouton-Noble experiment indicate the not uncommon lack of awareness about the degree observational equivalence between prerelativistic (Lorentzian) and relativistic viewpoints as far as special relativistic experiments are considered. Abstract:This paper completes and comments on some aspects of our previous publications. In ref [1], we have derived a set of space-time transformations referred to as the extended space-time transformations. These transformations, which assume the existence of a preferred aether frame and the variability of the one-way speed of light in the other frames, are compared to the Lorentz-Poincare transformations. We demonstrate that the extended transformations can be converted into a set of equations that have a similar mathematical form to the Lorentz-Poincare transformations, but which differ from them in that they connect reference frames whose co-ordinates are altered by the systematic unavoidable measurement distortions due to length contraction and clock retardation and by the usual synchronization procedures, a fact that the conventional approaches of relativity do not show. As a result, we confirm that the relativity principle is not a fundamental principle of physics [i.e, it does not rigorously apply in the physical world when the true co-ordinates are used]. It is contingent but seems to apply provided that the distorted coordinates are used. The apparent invariance of the speed of light also results from the measurement distortions. The space-time transformations relating experimental data, therefore, conceal hidden variables which deserved to be disclosed for a deeper understanding of physics.

Abstract:We report that a general principle of physical independence of mathematical background manifolds brings a replacement of common derivative operators by co-derivative ones. Then we obtain a new Lagrangian for the ordinary minimal standard model with supplementary terms containing the Lorentz invariance violation information measured by a new matrix, denoted as the Lorentz invariance violation matrix. We thus provide a new fundamental theory to study Lorentz invariance violation effects consistently and systematically.

Abstract:Besides two fundamental postulates, (i) the principle of relativity and (ii) the constancy of the speed of light in all inertial frames of reference, the special theory of relativity uses another assumption. This other assumption concerns the Euclidean structure of gravity-free space and the homogeneity of gravity-free time in the usual inertial coordinate system. Introducing the primed inertial coordinate system, in addition to the usual inertial coordinate system, for each inertial frame of reference, we assume the Euclidean structures of gravity-free space and time in the primed inertial coordinate system and their generalized Finslerian structures in the usual inertial coordinate system. We combine the alternative assumption with the two postulates (i) and (ii) to modify the special theory of relativity. The modified special relativity theory involves two versions of the light speed, infinite c′ in the primed inertial coordinate system and finite c in the usual inertial coordinate system. It also involves the c′-type Galilean transformation between any two primed inertial coordinate systems and the localized Lorentz transformation between two corresponding usual inertial coordinate systems. Since all our experimental data are collected and expressed in the usual inertial coordinate system, the physical principle is: the c′-type Galilean invariance in the primed inertial coordinate system plus the transformation from the primed inertial coordinate system to the usual inertial coordinate system. This principle is applied to a reformulation of mechanics, field theory and quantum field theory. Relativistic mechanics in the usual inertial coordinate system is unchanged, while field theory is developed and divergence-free. Any c′-type Galilean-invariant field system can be quantized by using the canonical quantization method in the primed inertial coordinate system. We establish a transformation law for quantized field systems as they are transformed from the primed to the usual inertial coordinate system. It is shown that the modified special relativity theory, together with quantum mechanics, leads to a convergent and invariant quantum field theory, in full agreement with experimental facts. The formulation of this quantum field theory does not demand departures from the concepts such as local Lorentz invariance in the usual inertial coordinate system, locality of interactions, and local or global gauge symmetries.
Resolution of two fundamental issues in the dynamics of relativity and exposure of a real version of the emperor's new clothes

Abstract:In this paper, we aim to resolve two fundamental issues in the dynamics of relativity: (i) Under what condition, the time-column space integrals of a Lorentz four-tensor constitute a Lorentz four-vector, and (ii) under what condition, the time-element space integral of a Lorentz four-vector is a Lorentz scalar; namely two "conservation laws", which are mispresented in traditional textbooks, and widely used in fundamental research, such as relativistic analysis of the momentum of light in a medium, and the proofs of the positive mass theorem in general relativity. To resolve issue (i), we have developed a generalized Lorentz \emph{four-vector} theorem based on the principles of classical mathematical analysis, with a simplified analytic example given to illustrate how to transform a space integral from one inertial frame to another, and a strict mathematical derivation provided to confirm the effect of Lorentz contraction. We use this four-vector theorem to verify M{\o}ller's theorem, and surprisingly find that M{\o}ller's theorem is fundamentally wrong. We provide a corrected version of M{\o}ller's theorem. We also use this four-vector theorem to analyze a plane light wave in a moving uniform medium, and find that the momentum and energy of Minkowski quasi-photon constitute a Lorentz four-vector and Planck constant is a Lorentz invariant. To resolve issue (ii), we have developed a generalized Lorentz \emph{scalar} theorem. We use this theorem to verify the "invariant conservation law" in relativistic electrodynamics, and unexpectedly find that it is also fundamentally wrong. Thus the two "conservation laws" in traditional textbooks, which have magically attracted several generations of most outstanding scientists, turned out to be imaginary, just like the emperor's new clothes; creating a scientific myth in the modern theoretical and mathematical physics: Believing is seeing.

Abstract:We elucidate how different theoretical assumptions bring about radically different interpretations of the same experimental result. We do this by analyzing special relativity as it was originally formulated. Then, we examine the relationship of the theory with the result of the Michelson and Morley experiment. We point out that in diverse a historical context the same experiment can be thought of as providing different conceptualizations of phenomena. This demonstrates why special relativity prevailed over its rival theories. This theory made a new reinterpretation of the experiment by associating it with a novel phenomenon, namely, the invariance of the speed of light, a phenomenon that was not the one originally investigated. This leads us to an understanding of how this experiment could have been interpreted in a completely different historical context.

Abstract:The major extant relativity theories - Galileo's Relativity (GaR), Lorentz's Relativity (LR) and Einstein's Special Relativity (SR), with the latter much celebrated, while the LR is essentially ignored. Indeed it is often incorrectly claimed that SR and LR are experimentally indistinguishable. Here we show that (i) SR and LR are experimentally distinguishable, (ii) that comparison of gas-mode Michelson interferometer experiments with spacecraft earth-flyby Doppler shift data demonstrate that it is LR that is consistent with the data, while SR is in conflict with the data, (iii) SR is exactly derivable from GaR by means of a mere linear change of space and time coordinates that mixes the Galilean space and time coordinates. So it is GaR and SR that are equivalent. Hence the well-known SR relativistic effects are purely coordinate effects, and cannot correspond to the observed relativistic effects. The connections between these three relativity theories has become apparent following the discovery that space is an observable dynamical textured system, and that space and time are distinct phenomena, leading to a neo-Lorentz Relativity (nLR). The observed relativistic effects are dynamical consequences of nLR and 3-space. In particular a proper derivation of the Dirac equation from nLR is given, which entails the derivation of the rest mass energy mc^2

Abstract:It is proved that local Lorentz transformations for different systems cannot derive varying speed of light. Based on the special relativity principle, an invariant speed is necessarily obtained. Therefore, the exact basic principles of the special relativity should be redefined as: I. The special relativity principle, which derives necessarily an invariant speed. II. Suppose that the invariant speed in the theory is the speed of light in the vacuum c. If the second principle does not hold, for example, the superluminal motions exist, the theory will be still the extensive special relativity, in which the formulations are the same, only c is replaced by the invariant speed. If the invariant speed are various invariant velocities, the diversity of space-time will correspond to many worlds. Varying speed of light theory is probably connected only with the general relativity.

Abstract:Introducing the primed inertial coordinate system, for each inertial frame of reference, in addition to the usual inertial coordinate system, we assume that gravity-free space and time possess the Euclidean structures in the primed inertial coordinate system and the generalized Finslerian structures in the usual inertial coordinate system. We combine these assumptions with two fundamental postulates, (i) the principle of relativity and (ii) the constancy of the speed of light in all inertial frames of reference, to derive the localized Lorentz transformation as a linear transformation between any two usual inertial coordinate systems. Based on this, it is proposed that all laws of physics are locally Lorentz-invariant in the usual inertial coordinate system. As a Lorentz-invariant law of physics must be locally Lorentz-invariant while a locally Lorentz-invariant law is not necessarily Lorentz-invariant, the change from the requirement of Lorentz invariance to that of the local Lorentz invariance on laws of physics provides with a larger acceptable scope to explore these laws.
