Abstract:Congruences on a graph inverse semigroup were recently described in terms of the underline graph. Based on such descriptions, we show that the congruence lattice of a graph inverse semigroup is upper semimodular but not lower semimodular.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the lattice Subf S of full subsemigroups of an inverse semigroup S. Our first main theorem states that for any inverse semigroup S, Subf S is a subdirect product of the lattices of full subsemigroups of its principal factors, so that Subf S is distributive [meet semidistributive, join semidistributive, modular, semimodular] if and only if the lattice of full subsemigroups of each principal factor is. To examine such inverse semigroups, therefore, we need essentially only consider those which are 0-simple. For a 0-simple inverse semigroup S (not a group with zero), we show that in fact each of modularity, meet semidistributivity and join semidistributivity of Subf S is equivalent to distributivity of S, that is, S is the combinatorial Brandt semigroup with exactly two nonzero idempotents and two nonidempotents. About semimodularity, however, we concentrate only on the completely 0-simple case, that is, Brandt semigroups. For a Brandt semigroup S (not a group with zero), semimodularity of Subf S is equivalent to distributivity of Subf S. Finally, we characterize an inverse semigroup S for which Subf S is a chain.

Abstract:Good congruence aggregates for the semilattice of cancellative monoids are introduced and the good congruences on these semigroups are characterized by means of good congruence aggregates. Furthermore, the meet and the join for the good congruence lattice are determined for the semilattice of commutative cancellative monoids.

Abstract:A necessary and sufficient condition for eventually regular semigroups to have 0-semidistributive lattices of full subsemigroups is given. In particular, the structure of inverse semigroups whose full subsemigroup lattices are 0-semidistributive is characterized. Moreover, the particularly transparent structural descriptions are obtained in the case of strongly eventually inverse semigroups and of orthoepigroups.

Abstract:Each quiver corresponds to a path semigroup, and such a path semigroup also corresponds to an associative K-algebra over an algebraically closed field K. Let Q be a quiver and S_Q, KQ be its path semigroup, path algebra, respectively. In this paper, we study some properties of the congruence lattice of S_Q. First, we show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between congruences on S and certain algebraic ideals of KQ. Based on such a description, we consider acyclic quivers and show that the congruence latices of such path semigroups are strong upper semimodular but not necessarily lower semimodular. Moreover, we provide some equivalent conditions for the congruence lattices to be modular and distributive.

Abstract:Let L be a distributive lattice and M n , q ( L ) (M n ( L ) , resp.) the semigroup (semiring, resp.) of n × q ( n × n , resp.) matrices over L . In this paper, we show that if there is a subdirect embedding from distributive lattice L to the direct product ∏ i = 1 m ‍ L i of distributive lattices L 1 , L 2 , ... , L m , then there will be a corresponding subdirect embedding from the matrix semigroup M n , q ( L ) (semiring M n ( L ) , resp.) to semigroup ∏ i = 1 m ‍ M n , q ( L i ) (semiring ∏ i = 1 m ‍ M n ( L i ) , resp.). Further, it is proved that a matrix over a distributive lattice can be decomposed into the sum of matrices over some of its special subchains. This generalizes and extends the decomposition theorems of matrices over finite distributive lattices, chain semirings, fuzzy semirings, and so forth. Finally, as some applications, we present a method to calculate the indices and periods of the matrices over a distributive lattice and characterize the structures of idempotent and nilpotent matrices over it. We translate the characterizations of idempotent and nilpotent matrices over a distributive lattice into the corresponding ones of the binary Boolean cases, which also generalize the corresponding structures of idempotent and nilpotent matrices over general Boolean algebras, chain semirings, fuzzy semirings, and so forth.

Abstract:Graph inverse semigroups generalize the polycyclic inverse monoids and play an important role in the theory of C*-algebras. This paper has two main goals: first, to provide an abstract characterization of graph inverse semigroups; and second, to show how they may be completed, under suitable conditions, to form what we call the Cuntz-Krieger semigroup of the graph. This semigroup is the ample semigroup of a topological groupoid associated with the graph, and the semigroup analogue of the Leavitt path algebra of the graph.

Abstract:In this paper we present an algorithm for computing a congruence on an inverse semigroup from a collection of generating pairs. This algorithm uses a myriad of techniques from computational group theory, automata, and the theory of inverse semigroups. An initial implementation of this algorithm outperforms existing implementations by several orders of magnitude.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to study the generalization of inverse semigroups (without order). An ordered semigroup S is called an inverse ordered semigroup if for every a 2 S, any two inverses of a are H-related. We prove that an ordered semigroup is complete semilattice of t-simple ordered semigroups if and only if it is completely regular and inverse. Furthermore characterizations of inverse ordered semigroups have been characterized by their ordered idempotents.

Abstract:A solution is given for the word problem for free idempotent distributive semirings. Using this solution the lattice L (ID) of subvarieties of the variety ID of idempotent distributive semirings is determined. It turns out that L (ID) is isomorphic to the direct product of a four-element lattice and a lattice which is itself a subdirect product of four copies of the lattice L (B) of all band varieties. Therefore L (ID) is countably infinite and distributive. Every subvariety of ID is finitely based.

Abstract:The height of a poset $P$ is the supremum of the cardinalities of chains in $P$. The exact formula for the height of the subgroup lattice of the symmetric group $\mathcal{S}_n$ is known, as is an accurate asymptotic formula for the height of the subsemigroup lattice of the full transformation monoid $\mathcal{T}_n$. Motivated by the related question of determining the heights of the lattices of left- and right congruences of $\mathcal{T}_n$, we develop a general method for computing the heights of lattices of both one- and two-sided congruences for semigroups. We apply this theory to obtain exact height formulae for several monoids of transformations, matrices and partitions, including: the full transformation monoid $\mathcal{T}_n$, the partial transformation monoid $\mathcal{PT}_n$, the symmetric inverse monoid $\mathcal{I}_n$, the monoid of order-preserving transformations $\mathcal{O}_n$, the full matrix monoid $\mathcal{M}(n,q)$, the partition monoid $\mathcal{P}_n$, the Brauer monoid $\mathcal{B}_n$ and the Temperley-Lieb monoid $\mathcal{TL}_n$.

In the present paper, we considered the semimodularity and distributivity of the collection of (functorially finite) torsion classes. Abstract:We prove that the acyclic reorientation poset of a directed acyclic graph $D$ is a lattice if and only if the transitive reduction of any induced subgraph of $D$ is a forest. We then show that the acyclic reorientation lattice is always congruence normal, semidistributive (thus congruence uniform) if and only if $D$ is filled, and distributive if and only if $D$ is a forest. When the acyclic reorientation lattice is semidistributive, we introduce the ropes of $D$ that encode the join irreducibles acyclic reorientations and exploit this combinatorial model in three directions. First, we describe the canonical join and meet representations of acyclic reorientations in terms of non-crossing rope diagrams. Second, we describe the congruences of the acyclic reorientation lattice in terms of lower ideals of a natural subrope order. Third, we use Minkowski sums of shard polytopes of ropes to construct a quotientope for any congruence of the acyclic reorientation lattice.
