The Study of the Current Situation and the Strategy in the Collection of Foreign Law Journals in Chinese Academic Libraries

Abstract:Based on the data sources of Guidelan,this article makes an analysis of the collection of foreign law journals of Scopus and EBSCO in five 985universities(Fudan University,Shanghai Jiao Tong University,Nanjing University,Zhejiang University and Southeast University).Several problems can be found such as: the number of paper-based foreign journals is not enough,too many duplicates of both the paper-based foreign journals and the electronic foreign journals,the number of foreign core-journals cannot always be guaranteed,the repeated collections of foreign journals are formed by so-called the discipline construction,too many duplicates of foreign law journals in different universities.This article is aiming at making a higher level collection of the foreign law journals in China academy libraries by adopting the following policies: the libraries should give the priority to the subscription of electronic journals,increase numbers and sorts of the foreign core journals,subscribe the foreign journals by considering the discipline construction,optimize the quality of journal collection,cut down the duplicates,boost the level of guarantee,and adhere to joint acknowledge,construction and sharing of the foreign journals so as to upgrade the collection level.
