Abstract:The central limit theorem of martingales is the fundamental tool for studying the convergence of stochastic processes, especially stochastic integrals and differential equations. In this paper, the central limit theorem and the functional central limit theorem are obtained for martingale-like random variables under the sub-linear expectation. As applications, the Lindeberg’s central limit theorem is obtained for independent but not necessarily identically distributed random variables, and a new proof of the Lévy characterization of a GBrownian motion without using stochastic calculus is given. For proving the results, Rosenthal’s inequality and the exponential inequality for the martingale-like random variables are established.

Abstract:Let $\{q_n\}_{n=0}^\infty\subset [0,1]$ satisfy $q_0=0$, $\sum_{n=0}^\infty q_n=1$, and $\gcd\{n\geq 1\mid q_n\neq 0\}=1$. We consider the following process: Let $x$ be a real number. We first set $x=0$. Then $x$ is increased by $i$ with probability $q_i~(i=0,1,2,\cdots)$ every time. For $n\geq 0$, let $p_n$ be the probability such that $x=n$ occurs, so we have $p_0=1$ and $p_n=q_1p_{n-1}+q_2p_{n-2}+\cdots+q_np_0~(n\geq 1)$. In this setting, we have $\lim_n p_n=1/\sum_{i=0}^\infty iq_i$, where we define $1/\sum_{i=0}^\infty iq_i=0$ if $\sum_{i=0}^\infty iq_i=+\infty$. This result is known as (discrete case of) Blackwell's renewal theorem. The proof of $\lim_n p_n=1/\sum_{i=0}^\infty iq_i$ is not trivial, while the meaning of $\lim_n p_n=1/\sum_{i=0}^\infty iq_i$ is clear since the expected value of increasing number $i$ is $\sum_{i=0}^\infty iq_i$. Many proofs of this result have been given. In this paper, we will also provide a proof of this result. The idea of our proof is based on Fourier-analytic methods and Tauberian theorems for almost convergent sequences, while we actually need only elementary analysis.

Abstract:Let s be positive integer. Let Ω(s), Z(s) and H(s) denote the number of solutions of equation sum from i=1 to s(1/x_i+1/(x_1…x_s))=1, Znám's problem and system congruences x1…xi-1xi+1…xs+1≡0(modxi) alterately. The authors give two new methods to structure solutions of the equation, and prove that Ω(8)≥73, Ω(9)≥279, Ω(10)≥576. Meanwhile, the number of solutions of the equation is furtherly improved. And it is proved that if 2-s≥12, then Ω(s+1)≥Ω(s)+101, and if 2■s≥11, then Ω(s+1)≥Ω(s)+70.

Abstract:In 2012, Zhi-Wei Sun posed many conjectures about the monotonicity of sequences of form $\{ \sqrt[n]{{z_n }}\} $, where {z n } is a familiar number-theoretic or combinatorial sequence. We show that if the sequence {z n+1/z n } is increasing (resp., decreasing), then the sequence $\{ \sqrt[n]{{z_n }}\} $ is strictly increasing (resp., decreasing) subject to a certain initial condition. We also give some sufficient conditions when {z n+1/z n } is increasing, which is equivalent to the log-convexity of {z n }. As consequences, a series of conjectures of Zhi-Wei Sun are verified in a unified approach.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the monotone iterative technique combined with cone theory to investigate the existence of solutions to the Cauchy problem for Caputo fractional differential equations in Banach spaces.
