Abstract:where / ( / ) is a differentiate function defined on the real number interval [a, b), and x may be a real or complex number with x*0 and x*l. Obviously, the case for x = l of (1.1) could be generally treated by means of the well-known Euler-Maclaurin summation formula. The object of this paper is to find a general summation formula for (1.1) that could be applied readily to some interesting special cases, e.g., those with f{i)-t (2 ei?), / ( / ) = logf (V>1), and f(t) = q (0<q<l)9 respectively. Related results will be presented in Sections 3-5. Recall that for the particular case f(t) = t and [a, b) = [0, oo) with/? being a positive integer, we have the classical result (cf. [1], [2], [4])

Abstract:In 2014, Ibrahim M Alabdulmohsin wrote a paper called "Summability Calculus" where he developed a method to generalize sigma notation to non-integer upper bounds. His paper included a theorem, known as Theorem 6.1.1 (denoted here as Lemma 2.1 because of its simplicity and location in this paper), but doesn't study it much. Another paper by Mueller and Schleicher also analyzed this formula, but doesn't integrate or differentiate the formula and states some specific applications. This paper will analyze the simple formula that generalizes sigma notation to non-integer upper and lower bounds. We state and prove this formula in Section 2. Section 3 states a few algebraic properties for the sum and product formulae and shows how differentiation of sums and products works. Because integrating a product is challenging, we only analyze the integration of sums in the fourth part of Section 3. In Section 4 we apply the formula in the second section to create analytic continuations for functions defined as partial sums, formulate an infinite series representation to any limit, create a great approximation for functions that approach a certain limit, make an analytic continuation for products, and calculate the sum of anti-derivatives. We then conclude with a discussion of the material of this paper.

Abstract:In recent years, Sun proposed several sophisticated conjectures on congruences for finite sums with terms involving combinatorial sequences such as central trinomial coefficients, Domb numbers and Franel numbers. These sums are double summations of hypergeometric terms. Using the telescoping method and certain mathematical software packages, we transform such a double summation into a single sum. With this new approach, we confirm several open conjectures of Sun.

Abstract:A real number usually cannot be exactly represented by a floating-point number in a computer. Namely, a floating-point number frequently stands for any real number in a specific interval. In this paper, we present a method for computing the sign of a dot product sum. Each initial datum that is a floating-point number is considered as an interval. With interval analysis and floating-point summation methods, an explicit formula for calculating the minimal interval of a dot product sum is presented. Error analysis and some examples are provided as well.

Abstract:A numerical method is established for computing the weakly lower semicontinuous envelope of integral functionals with non-quasiconvex integrands. The convergence of the method is proved and it is shown that the method is capable of capturing curved and non-homogeneous microstructures. Numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of the method for capturing curved and non-homogeneous laminated microstructures.

Abstract:Suppose that A and B are two positive-definite matrices, then, the limit of (Ap/2BpAp/2)1/p as p tends to 0 can be obtained by the well known Lie-Trotter formula. In this article, we generalize the usual product of matrices to the Hadamard product denoted as * which is commutative, and obtain the explicit formula of the limit (Ap * Bp)1/p as p tends to 0. Furthermore, the existence of the limit of (Ap * Bp)1/p as p tends to +∞ is proved.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss a method that utilizes the recurrence of $A_{n,k}$ to solve summations of the form $\sum_{k=n_0}^{n} A_{n,k}$. It is observed that by repeating the procedure, the upper bound of summation is reduced and tilts toward the lower bound. This method of summation is mostly suitable for combinatorial sequences such as binomial coefficients, Stirling numbers of both kinds, etc. After the main method is displayed, some examples are illustrated. Some useful identities about Stirling and r-Stirling numbers are obtained. Finally, two transforms called rising and falling factorial transforms which turn the basis of power polynomials into factorial basis are derived. These transforms verify and simplify the results obtained in the examples section. Also, these transforms describe the relationship between fractional derivatives (or fractional integrals) and falling factorial (or rising factorial) by its series expansion.

Abstract:In this short, we study sums of the shape $\sum_{n\leqslant x}{f([x/n])}/{[x/n]},$ where $f$ is Euler totient function $\varphi$, Dedekind function $\Psi$, sum-of-divisors function $\sigma$ or the alternating sum-of-divisors function $\beta.$ We improve previous results when $f=\varphi$ and derive new estimates when $f=\Psi, f=\sigma$ and $f=\beta.$

Abstract:Series expansions for the mathematical constant $\beta(4)$ are rare in the history. With the help of the operator method and a hypergeometric transformation, we prove a surprising conjectural series of Sun for $\beta(4)$. Furthermore, we find five new series for the same constant in this paper.

In this paper, we mainly introduce a new technique to determine the universality of some sums in the form $x(a_1x+a_2)/2+y(b_1y+b_2)/2+z(c_1z+c_2)/2$ conjectured by Sun, using various identities of Ramanujan's theta functions.

Abstract:In the theory of hypergeometric series and generalized hypergeometric series, classical summation theorems, such as the two of Gauss and those of Kummer and Bailey for the series 2F1; those of Watson, Dixon, Whipple, and Saalschutz for the series 3F2; and others, play a key role. Applications of these classical summation theorems are well known. Berndt pointed out that a large number of interesting summations (including Ramanujan's summations and the Gregory–Leibniz pi summation) can be obtained very quickly by employing the above-mentioned classical summation theorems. Also, several interesting results involving products of generalized hypergeometric series have been obtained by Bailey by employing the above-mentioned classical summation theorems. Recently, the above-mentioned classical summation theorems have been generalized and extended. In our present investigations, our aim is to demonstrate the applications of the extended Kummer's summation theorem in establishing (i) extensions of Gauss's second summation theorem and Bailey's summation theorem; (ii) extensions of several summations (including Ramanujan's summations); (iii) extensions of several results involving products of generalized hypergeometric series; and (iv) an extension of classical Dixon's summation theorem. As special cases, we recover several known summations (including several Ramanujan summations and the Gregory–Leibniz pi summation) and various results involving products of generalized hypergeometric series due to Bailey.

Limit theorems for compensated weighted sums and application to numerical approximations

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a "compensated" random sum that arises from numerical approximation of stochastic integrations and differential equations. We show that the compensated sum exhibits some surprising cancellations among its components, a property which allows to transform it into a Skorohod-type Riemann sum. We then establish limit theorem for the compensated sum based on study of the Skorohod-type Riemann sum. Our proof employs techniques from Malliavin calculus and rough path. We apply our limit theorem result to the Euler approximation method for stochastic integrals and additive stochastic differential equations, filling a notable gap in this area of research. We show that the Euler method converges to the solution at the rate $(1/n)^{H+1/2}$, and that this rate is exact in the sense that the asymptotic error distribution solves a linear differential equation.
