Abstract:A fixed point theorem is used to study a singular second order three-point boundary value problem. The problem is more general. Combining the method of constructing Green functions with operators defined piecewise, the existence result of positive solutions to a singular second order three-point boundary value problem is established. The nonlinearity can be allowed to change sign.

Abstract:The solutions to semilinear elliptic partial differential equations contain rich infor-mation about the equations, which is very important for describing the development of various phenomena. The existence of equilibrium solutions of multi-species mutual aid model and the economic equilibrium point can be transformed into the existence of the solutions to Neumann boundary value problems. In this paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of the solutions for a class of semilinear elliptic equations with Neumann boundary value conditions. Using the topological degree theory and the eigenvalue comparison principle, we obtain the existence of the solutions under the assumption that the nonlinear terms satisfy the asymptotic nonuniform conditions. Using the eigenvalue comparison principle, we prove the uniqueness of the solutions. The obtained results extend and complement some relevant existing works. As an application, an example is given to verify the obtained results.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the problem of solution uniqueness for the second order elliptic boundary value problem, by looking at its finite element or finite difference approximations. We derive several equivalent conditions, which are simpler and easier than the boundedness of the entries of the inverse matrix given in Yamamoto et al., [T. Yamamoto, S. Oishi, Q. Fang, Discretization principles for linear two-point boundary value problems, II, Numer. Funct. Anal. Optim. 29 (2008) 213-224]. The numerical experiments are provided to support the analysis made. Strictly speaking, the uniqueness of solution is equivalent to the existence of nonzero eigenvalues in the corresponding eigenvalue problem, and this condition should be checked by solving the corresponding eigenvalue problems. An application of the equivalent conditions is that we may discover the uniqueness simultaneously, while seeking the approximate solutions of elliptic boundary equations. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:In this paper, a boundary value problem of fractional difference equation with p-Laplacian operator is considered. The sufficient conditions for uniqueness of solutions and existence of positive solutions are obtained by using properties of the corresponding Green's function,the contrac-tion mapping theorem and the fixed point theory in the cone. Additionally, some examples are given to guarantee the main results.

Abstract:This paper investigates the existence, multiplicity, nonexistence, and uniqueness of positive solutions to a kind of two-point boundary value problem for nonlinear fractional differential equations withp-Laplacian operator. By using fixed point techniques combining with partially ordered structure of Banach space, we establish some criteria for existence and uniqueness of positive solution of fractional differential equations withp-Laplacian operator in terms of different value of parameter. In particular, the dependence of positive solution on the parameter was obtained. Finally, several illustrative examples are given to support the obtained new results. The study of illustrative examples shows that the obtained results are applicable.

Abstract:In this paper we study the Dirichlet problem for real-valued second order divergence form elliptic operators with boundary data in Hölder spaces. Our context is that of open sets $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, $n \ge 2$, satisfying the capacity density condition, without any further topological assumptions. Our main result states that if $\Omega$ is either bounded, or unbounded with unbounded boundary, then the corresponding Dirichlet boundary value problem is well-posed; when $\Omega$ is unbounded with bounded boundary, we establish that solutions exist, but they fail to be unique in general. These results are optimal in the sense that solvability of the Dirichlet problem in Hölder spaces is shown to imply the capacity density condition. As a consequence of the main result, we present a characterization of the Hölder spaces in terms of the boundary traces of solutions, and obtain well-posedness of several related Dirichlet boundary value problems. All the results above are new even for 1-sided chord-arc domains, and can be extended to generalized Hölder spaces associated with a natural class of growth functions.

Abstract:We describe a general method for constructing Heisenberg uniqueness pairs in the euclidean space based on the study of boundary value problems for partial differential equations. As a result, we show, for instance, that any pair made of the boundary of a bounded convex set and a sphere is an Heisenberg uniqueness pair if and only if the square of the radius of is not an eigenvalue of the Laplacian on . The main ingredients for the proofs are the Paley–Wiener theorem, the uniqueness of a solution to a homogeneous Dirichlet or initial boundary value problem, the continuity of single layer potentials, and some complex analysis in . Denjoy's theorem on topological conjugacy of circle diffeomorphisms with irrational rotation numbers is also useful.
