Abstract:In this article, we study the following Dirichlet problem to the sub-linear Lane–Emden equation where , . By establishing an equivalent integral equation, we give a lower bound of the Kelvin transformation . Then, by constructing a new comparison function, we apply the maximum principle based on comparisons and the method of moving planes to obtain that u only depends on x n . Based on this, we prove the non-existence of non-negative solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we will study harmonic functions on the complete and incomplete spaces with nonnegative Ricci curvature which exhibit inhomogeneous collapsing behaviors at infinity. The main result states that any nonconstant harmonic function on such spaces yields a definite exponential growth rate which depends explicitly on the geometric data at infinity.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce an index $\ell_c \in \mathbb{N}_0 \cup \lbrace \infty \rbrace$ which we call the `regularization index' associated to the endpoints, $c\in\{a,b\}$, of nonoscillatory Sturm-Liouville differential expressions with trace class resolvents. This notion extends the limit circle/limit point dichotomy in the sense that $\ell_c~=~0$ at some endpoint if and only if the expression is in the limit circle case. In the limit point case $\ell_c>0$, a natural interpretation in terms of iterated Darboux transforms is provided. We also show stability of the index $\ell_c$ for a suitable class of perturbations, extending earlier work on perturbations of spherical Schrödinger operators to the case of general three-coefficient Sturm-Liouville operators. We demonstrate our results by considering a variety of examples including generalized Bessel operators, Jacobi differential operators, and Schrödinger operators on the half-line with power potentials.

Abstract:For $\left(C(t)\right)_{t\in\mathbb R}$ being a cosine family on a unital normed algebra, we show that the estimate $\limsup_{t\to\infty^{+}}\|C(t) - I\| <2$ implies that $C(t)=I$ for all $t\in\mathbb R$. This generalizes the result that $\sup_{t\geq0}\|C(t)-I\|<2$ yields that $C(t)=I$ for all $t\geq0$. We also state the corresponding result for discrete cosine families and for semigroups.

Abstract:In this paper, we firstly discuss the question: Is $l_{2}^{\infty}$ homeomorphic to a rectifiable space or a paratopological group? And then, we mainly discuss locally compact rectifiable spaces, and show that a locally compact and separable rectifiable space is $\sigma$-compact, which gives an affirmative answer to A.V. Arhangel'skiǐ and M.M. Choban's question [On remainders of rectifiable spaces, Topology Appl., 157(2010), 789-799]. Next, we show that a rectifiable space $X$ is strongly Fr$\acute{e}$chet-Urysohn if and only if $X$ is an $\alpha_{4}$-sequential space. Moreover, we discuss the metrizabilities of rectifiable spaces, which gives a partial answer for a question posed in \cite{LFC2009}. Finally, we consider the remainders of rectifiable spaces, which improve some results in \cite{A2005, A2007, A2009, Liu2009}.

Abstract:N. G. de Bruijn (1958) studied the asymptotic expansion of iterates of sin$(x)$ with $0 < x \leq \pi/2$. Bencherif & Robin (1994) generalized this result to increasing analytic functions $f(x)$ with an attractive fixed point at 0 and $x > 0$ suitably small. Mavecha & Laohakosol (2013) formulated an algorithm for explicitly deriving required parameters. We review their method, testing it initally on the logistic function $\ell(x)$, a certain radical function $r(x)$, and later on several transcendental functions. Along the way, we show how $\ell(x)$ and $r(x)$ are kindred functions; the same is also true for sin$(x)$ and arcsinh$(x)$.

Abstract:Let I be a closed interval and f:I --> I be continuous. We investigate the structure of the inverse limit space lim(I, f) which contains no indecomposable subcontinuum. In particular, we show that the set of nondegenerate maximal nowhere dense subcontinua of lim(I, f) is finite if f is piecewise monotone with zero topological entropy. Applying the above result, we show that if f: I --> I is piecewise monotone, then the following statements are equivalent:(1) lim(I, f) contains no indecomposable subcontinuum.(2) The topological entropy of f is zero.(3) lim(I, f) is Suslinean.(4) Each homeomorphism of lim(I, f) has zero topological entropy.We also show how the order of lim(I, f) is dependent on the set of periods of f when f is piecewise monotone with zero topological entropy. Abstract:This short note is motivated by an attempt to understand the distinction between the Laplace operator and the hyperbolic Laplacian on the unit ball of $\mathbb{R}^n$, regarding the Lipschitz continuity of the solutions to the corresponding Dirichlet problems. We investigate the Dirichlet problem \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{ll} \Delta_{\vartheta} u = 0, & \text{ in }\, \mathbb{B}^n,\\ u=\phi, & \text{ on }\, \mathbb{S}^{n-1}, \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} where \[ \Delta_{\vartheta} := (1-|x|^2) \bigg\{ \frac {1-|x|^2} {4} \Delta + \vartheta \sum_{j=1}^n x_{j} \frac {\partial } {\partial x_j} + \vartheta \left( \frac {n}{2}-1- \vartheta \right) I\bigg\}. \] We show that the Lipschitz continuity of boundary data always implies the Lipschitz continuity of the solutions if $\vartheta > 0$, but does not when $\vartheta \leq 0$.

Abstract:It is well known that the Liénard system x˙=y−F(x), y˙=−g(x) with symmetry (i.e. F(x) and g(x) are odd functions) has a unique limit cycle under some hypotheses. In this paper we will show that the unique limit cycle locates in the strip region |x|0 is uniquely and directly determined by ∫0x⁎F(x)g(x)dx=0. In other words, an explicit upper bound x⁎ is given for the amplitude (i.e. the maximal value of the x-coordinate) of the unique limit cycle. As a simple application we obtain a uniform estimate A(μ)<5≐2.2361 for each μ>0, where A(μ) denotes the amplitude of the unique limit cycle in the Liénard system x˙=y−μ(x3/3−x), y˙=−x for the van der Pol equation x¨+μ(x2−1)x˙+x=0. The upper bound 5 improves the existing ones.
Boundary behavior of limit-interfaces for the Allen-Cahn equation on Riemannian manifolds with Neumann boundary condition

Abstract:We study the boundary behavior of any limit-interface arising from a sequence of general critical points of the Allen-Cahn energy functionals on a smooth bounded domain. Given any such sequence with uniform energy bounds, we prove that the limit-interface is a free boundary varifold which is integer rectifiable up to the boundary. This extends earlier work of Hutchinson and Tonegawa on the interior regularity of such limit-interface. A key novelty in our result is that no convexity assumption of the boundary is required and it is valid even when the limit-interface clusters near the boundary. Moreover, our arguments are local and thus works in the Riemannian setting. This work provides the first step towards the regularity theory for the Allen-Cahn min-max theory for free boundary minimal hypersurfaces, which was developed in the Almgren-Pitts setting by the first-named author and Zhou.
