Abstract:A difficult question arising in the study of effect algebras is how to equip them with a fitting and proper topology such that the topology is compatible with the partial operations ⊕ and Θ. As we know, the Frink ideal topology is an important intrinsic topology for studying partially ordered set theory; in particular, it is the correct topology for chains and direct products of a finite number of chains. In this paper, we show that the Frink ideal topology is also a nice topology for studying effect-algebra theory since it provides the operations with some of the expected continuity properties.

Abstract:Let (E,⊥,⊕,0,1) be a lattice effect algebra and τi its interval topology. In this work we show that if the operation ⊕ is continuous with respect to τi, then τi is Hausdorff. In addition, we also show that if (E,⊥,⊕,0,1) is a complete MV-effect algebra and τi is a Hausdorff topology, then the operations ⊕, ⊖, ∨ and ∧ are τi continuous.

Abstract:In this paper we will give a direct proof of a characterization theorem for continuous posers and also a parallel result for algebraic posets. We also show that a continuous poset P is locally compact with respect to the Scott topology. These results generalize the corresponding results for dcpos.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the concepts of generalized continuous posets and present topological dualities for them. Moreover, we show that the category of generalized continuous posets and continuous morphisms is dually equivalent to the category of F-spaces and F-morphisms. In particular, some special cases are obtained, such as the topological representations for posets, domains, continuous lattices and join-semilattices.

Abstract:Covering-based rough set theory is a useful tool to deal with inexact, uncertain, or vague knowledge in information systems. Geometric lattice has been widely used in diverse fields, especially search algorithm design, which plays an important role in covering reductions. In this paper, we construct three geometric lattice structures of covering-based rough sets through matroids and study the relationship among them. First, a geometric lattice structure of covering-based rough sets is established through the transversal matroid induced by a covering. Then its characteristics, such as atoms, modular elements, and modular pairs, are studied. We also construct a one-to-one correspondence between this type of geometric lattices and transversal matroids in the context of covering-based rough sets. Second, we present three sufficient and necessary conditions for two types of covering upper approximation operators to be closure operators of matroids. We also represent two types of matroids through closure axioms and then obtain two geometric lattice structures of covering-based rough sets. Third, we study the relationship among these three geometric lattice structures. Some core concepts such as reducible elements in covering-based rough sets are investigated with geometric lattices. In a word, this work points out an interesting view, namely, geometric lattice, to study covering-based rough sets.

Topology and its Applications

Abstract:Given a topological space X , there is a natural relation ≤ on the set E∘(X) of all, up to equivalence, zero-dimensional one-point extensions of X which makes it a partially ordered set. We present results on the partially ordered set 〈E∘(X),≤〉 . We associate with each zero-dimensional one-point extension of X , a clopen bornology on X which makes it possible to single out some properties of the partially ordered set 〈E∘(X),≤〉 . For instance, we characterize the maximal (resp., minimal) elements of E∘(X) . We prove that 〈E∘(X),≤〉 is always a lower semi-lattice. For each Y∈E∘(X) , the principal up-set ↑ Y is shown to be a complete partially ordered set, while the principal down-set ↓ Y is a distributive lattice. We show that if X is also locally compact, the partially ordered set E∘(X) determines the topology of the remainder ζX∖X , where ζX is the Banaschewski compactification of X . Finally, we describe the Banaschewski compactification of every zero-dimensional one-point extension of X by means of its associated clopen bornology.

Abstract:In this paper,we define the Scott topology on arbitrary poset by means of S-limit,which extends the Scott topology defined on a dcpo.We will show that the Scott topology defined on a poset or a continuous poset has many similar properties to those of the Scott topology defined on a dcpo or a domain.We also show that the category POSET of posets and Scott continuous maps is not Cartesian closed,thus the categories of FS-posets and B-posets are not Cartesian closed.As a corollary,we show that the category CDCPO of consistent directed complete posets(in short,cdcpos) and Scott continuous maps is a Cartesian closed full subcategory of POSET.

Abstract:An algebraization of the notion of topology has been proposed more than seventy years ago in a classical paper by McKinsey and Tarski. However, in McKinsey and Tarski's setting the model theoretical notion of homomorphism does not correspond to the notion of continuity. We notice that the two notions correspond if instead we consider a preorder relation $ \sqsubseteq $ defined by $a \sqsubseteq b$ if $a$ is contained in the topological closure of $b$. A specialization poset is a partially ordered set endowed with a further coarser preorder relation $ \sqsubseteq $. We show that every specialization poset can be embedded in the specialization poset naturally associated to some topological space, where the order relation corresponds to set-theoretical inclusion. Specialization semilattices are defined in an analogous way and the corresponding embedding theorem is proved. The interest of these structures arises from the fact that they also occur in many rather disparate settings, even far removed from topology.

Abstract:Stanley introduced and studied two lattice polytopes, the order polytope and chain polytope, associated to a finite poset. Recently Ohsugi and Tsuchiya introduce an enriched version of them, called the enriched order polytope and enriched chain polytope. In this paper, we give a piecewise-linear bijection between these enriched poset polytopes, which is an enriched analogue of Stanley's transfer map and bijectively proves that they have the same Ehrhart polynomials. Also we construct explicitly unimodular triangulations of two enriched poset polytopes.

Abstract:Grothendieck toposes, and by extension, logical theories, can be represented by topological structures. Butz and Moerdijk showed that every topos with enough points can be represented as the topos of sheaves on an open topological groupoid. This paper tackles a follow-up question: we characterise, in model-theoretic terms, which open topological groupoids can represent the classifying topos of a theory. Intuitively, this characterises which groupoids of models contain enough information to reconstruct the theory. Our treatment subsumes many of the previous approaches found in the literature, such as that of Awodey, Forssell, Butz and Moerdijk.

Abstract:We introduce and examine order convergence and the interval topology on partially ordered sets in general. Problem 76 of Birkhoff's "Lattice Theory" asks whether for complete Boolean algebras the order topology and the interval topology coincide. We answer this question in the negative.

Abstract:With a frame $L$ as the truth value table, we study the topological representations for frame-valued domains. We introduce the notions of locally super-compact $L$-topological space and strong locally super-compact $L$-topological space. Using these concepts, continuous $L$-dcpos and algebraic $L$-dcpos are successfully represented via $L$-sobriety. By means of Scott $L$-topology and specialization $L$-order, we establish a categorical isomorphism between the category of the continuous (resp., algebraic) $L$-dcpos with Scott continuous maps and that of the locally super-compact (resp., strong locally super-compact) $L$-sober spaces with continuous maps. As an application, for a continuous $L$-poset $P$, we obtain a categorical isomorphism between the category of directed completions of $P$ with Scott continuous maps and that of the $L$-sobrifications of $(P, \sigma_{L}(P))$ with continuous maps.

Abstract:This paper solves the first problem of the open problems in topos theory posted by William Lawvere, which asks the existence of a Grothendieck topos that has a proper class many quotient topoi. This paper concretely constructs such Grothendieck topoi, including the presheaf topos of the free monoid generated by countably infinite elements $\mathbf{PSh}(M_\omega)$. Utilizing the combinatorics of the classifying topos of the theory of inhabited objects and considering pairing functions, the problem is reduced to making rigid relational structures. This is accomplished by using Kunen's theorem on elementary embeddings in set theory.
