Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the order structure-continuous poset, a generalization of a continuous dcpo(i.e., domain). The Cartesian product of continuous posets is studied. Some other properties of continuous posets and algebraic posets are given. Some equivalent characterization of continuous posets is given.

Abstract:In this paper we will give a direct proof of a characterization theorem for continuous posers and also a parallel result for algebraic posets. We also show that a continuous poset P is locally compact with respect to the Scott topology. These results generalize the corresponding results for dcpos.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the concepts of generalized continuous posets and present topological dualities for them. Moreover, we show that the category of generalized continuous posets and continuous morphisms is dually equivalent to the category of F-spaces and F-morphisms. In particular, some special cases are obtained, such as the topological representations for posets, domains, continuous lattices and join-semilattices.

Abstract:In this paper,we define the Scott topology on arbitrary poset by means of S-limit,which extends the Scott topology defined on a dcpo.We will show that the Scott topology defined on a poset or a continuous poset has many similar properties to those of the Scott topology defined on a dcpo or a domain.We also show that the category POSET of posets and Scott continuous maps is not Cartesian closed,thus the categories of FS-posets and B-posets are not Cartesian closed.As a corollary,we show that the category CDCPO of consistent directed complete posets(in short,cdcpos) and Scott continuous maps is a Cartesian closed full subcategory of POSET.

Abstract:A chain poset, by definition, consists of chains of ordered elements in a poset. We study the chain posets associated to two posets: the Boolean algebra and the poset of isotropic flags. We prove that, in both cases, the chain posets satisfy the strong Sperner property and are rank-log concave.

Abstract:The upper powerdomain of an arbitrary dcpo L can be constructed by the Scott completion of the directed upper powerspace of L . By means of this result, we investigate the upper powerdomains of quasicontinuous domains. The main results are: (1) The upper powerdomain PU(L) of a quasicontinuous domain L is quasicontinuous iff the directed upper powerspace of L is endowed with the Scott topology, iff PU(L) is isomorphic to Q(L) , the semilattice of nonempty Scott compact saturated subsets of L . (2) There exists a quasicontinuous dcpo whose upper powerdomain is not quasicontinuous. (3) The upper powerdomain of a strongly quasicontinuous domain L is isomorphic to Q(L) .

Abstract:We introduce a notion of strong proximity join-semilattice, a predicative notion of continuous lattice which arises as the Karoubi envelop of the category of algebraic lattices. Strong proximity join-semilattices can be characterised by the coalgebras of the lower powerlocale on the wider category of proximity posets (also known as abstract bases or R-structures). Moreover, locally compact locales can be characterised in terms of strong proximity join-semilattices by the coalgebras of the double powerlocale on the category of proximity posets. We also provide more logical characterisation of a strong proximity join-semilattice, called a strong continuous finitary cover, which uses an entailment relation to present the underlying join-semilattice. We show that this structure naturally corresponds to the notion of continuous lattice in the predicative point-free topology. Our result makes the predicative and finitary aspect of the notion of continuous lattice in point-free topology more explicit.

A survey of congruences and quotients of partially ordered sets

Abstract:A quotient of a poset $P$ is a partial order obtained on the equivalence classes of an equivalence relation $\theta$ on $P$; $\theta$ is then called a congruence if it satisfies certain conditions, which vary according to different theories. The literature on congruences and quotients of partially ordered sets contains a large and profilerating array of approaches, but little in the way of systematic exposition and examination of the subject. We seek to rectify this by surveying the different theories in the literature and providing philosophical discussion on requirements for notions of congruences of posets. We advocate a pluralist approach which recognises that different types of congruence arise naturally in different mathematical situations. There are some notions of congruence which are very general, whilst others capture specific structure which often appears in examples. Indeed, we finish by giving several examples where quotients of posets appear naturally in mathematics.

Partially Ordered Sheaves on a Locale. I (II)

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the order algebraic structure in the category of sheaves on a given locale X. Since every localic topos has a generating set formed by its subterminal objects, we define a "point" of a partially ordered sheaf to be a morphism from a subterminal sheaf to the partially ordered sheaf. Using the concept of "points," we investigate the completeness of posheaves systemically. Some internal characterizations of complete partially ordered sheaves and frame sheaves are given. We also give an explicit description of the construction of associated sheaf locales and show directly that the category Sh(X) of sheaves on a locale X is equivalent to the slice category LH/X of locales and local homeomorphisms over X. Applying this equivalence, we give characterizations of partially ordered sheaves and complete partially ordered sheaves in terms of sheaf locale respectively. This paper is a continuation of our paper [1]. In this paper, we first introduce the concept of directed complete partially ordered sheaves (shortly dcposheaves) on a given locale. some internal characterizations of dcposheaves and meet continuous dcposheaves are given respectively. We also give characterizations of continuous posheaves and completely distributive posheaves, and show that an algebraic completely distributive posheaf is spatial.

Abstract:Given a symmetric monoidal category $C$ with product $\sqcup$, where the neutral element for the product is an initial object, we consider the poset of $\sqcup$-complemented subobjects of a given object $X$. When this poset has finite height, we define decompositions and partial decompositions of $X$ which are coherent with $\sqcup$, and order them by refinement. From these posets, we define complexes of frames and partial bases, augmented Bergman complexes and related ordered versions. We propose a unified approach to the study of their combinatorics and homotopy type, establishing various properties and relations between them. Via explicit homotopy formulas, we will be able to transfer structural properties, such as Cohen-Macaulayness.

A complete characterization of monotonicity equivalence for continuous-time Markov processes

Abstract:Dai Pra et al studied two notions of monotonicity for continuous-time Markov processes on a finite partially ordered set (poset), and conjectured that monotonicity equivalence holds for a poset of W-glued diamond, and that there is no other case when it has no acyclic extension. We proved their conjecture and were able to provide a complete characterization of posets for monotonicity equivalence.

Abstract:With a frame $L$ as the truth value table, we study the topological representations for frame-valued domains. We introduce the notions of locally super-compact $L$-topological space and strong locally super-compact $L$-topological space. Using these concepts, continuous $L$-dcpos and algebraic $L$-dcpos are successfully represented via $L$-sobriety. By means of Scott $L$-topology and specialization $L$-order, we establish a categorical isomorphism between the category of the continuous (resp., algebraic) $L$-dcpos with Scott continuous maps and that of the locally super-compact (resp., strong locally super-compact) $L$-sober spaces with continuous maps. As an application, for a continuous $L$-poset $P$, we obtain a categorical isomorphism between the category of directed completions of $P$ with Scott continuous maps and that of the $L$-sobrifications of $(P, \sigma_{L}(P))$ with continuous maps.

Abstract:We extend the chain algebra, originally defined in \cite{GN} for finite distributive lattices to that of finite pure posets. We show this algebra corresponds to the Ehrhart ring of a (0,1)-polytope, termed the chain polytope, and characterize the indecomposability of this polytope. Furthermore, we prove the normality of the chain algebra, describe its canonical module, and extend one of main results from \cite{GN} by computing its Krull dimension. For width-2 pure posets, we determine the algebra's regularity and conditions for it to be Gorenstein or nearly Gorenstein.

Abstract:Working constructively, we study continuous directed complete posets (dcpos) and the Scott topology. Our two primary novelties are a notion of intrinsic apartness and a notion of sharp elements. Being apart is a positive formulation of being unequal, similar to how inhabitedness is a positive formulation of nonemptiness. To exemplify sharpness, we note that a lower real is sharp if and only if it is located. Our first main result is that for a large class of continuous dcpos, the Bridges-Vîţǎ apartness topology and the Scott topology coincide. Although we cannot expect a tight or cotransitive apartness on nontrivial dcpos, we prove that the intrinsic apartness is both tight and cotransitive when restricted to the sharp elements of a continuous dcpo. These include the strongly maximal elements, as studied by Smyth and Heckmann. We develop the theory of strongly maximal elements highlighting its connection to sharpness and the Lawson topology. Finally, we illustrate the intrinsic apartness, sharpness and strong maximality by considering several natural examples of continuous dcpos: the Cantor and Baire domains, the partial Dedekind reals, the lower reals and finally, an embedding of Cantor space into an exponential of lifted sets.

Abstract:For a finite non-empty set $X$, let $\mathfrak{P}(X)$ denote the set of all posets with carrier $X$, ordered by inclusion of their partial order relations. We investigate properties of posets $P \in \mathfrak{P}(X)$ for which no lower cover or no upper cover in $\mathfrak{P}(X)$ has the fixed point property. We derive two conditions, one of them sufficient for that no lower cover of $P$ has the fixed point property, the other one sufficient for that no upper cover of $P$ has the fixed point property, and we apply these results on several types of posets.

Abstract:The classical way to study a finite poset (X, ≤ ) using topology is by means of the simplicial complex ΔX of its nonempty chains. There is also an alternative approach, regarding X as a finite topological space. In this article we introduce new constructions for studying X topologically: inspired by a classical paper of Dowker (Ann Math 56:84–95, 1952), we define the simplicial complexes KX and LX associated to the relation ≤. In many cases these polyhedra have the same homotopy type as the order complex ΔX. We give a complete characterization of the simplicial complexes that are the K or L-complexes of some finite poset and prove that KX and LX are topologically equivalent to the smaller complexes K′X, L′X induced by the relation <. More precisely, we prove that KX (resp. LX) simplicially collapses to K′X (resp. L′X). The paper concludes with a result that relates the K-complexes of two posets X, Y with closed relations R ⊂ X × Y.

Abstract:We first consider the class K of graphs on a zero-dimensional metrizable compact space with continuous chromatic number at least three. We provide a concrete basis of size continuum for K made up of countable graphs, comparing them with the quasi-order associated with injective continuous homomorphisms. We prove that the size of such a basis is sharp, using odometers. However, using odometers again, we prove that there is no antichain basis in K, and provide infinite descending chains in K. Our method implies that the equivalence relation of flip conjugacy of minimal homeomorphisms of the Cantor space is Borel reducible to the equivalence relation associated with our quasi-order. We also prove that there is no antichain basis in the class of graphs on a zero-dimensional Polish space with continuous chromatic number at least three. We study the graphs induced by a continuous function, and show that any basis for the class of graphs induced by a homeomorphism of a zero-dimensional metrizable compact space with continuous chromatic number at least three must have size continuum, using odometers or subshifts.
