Abstract:Ultrasonic motors(USM) have the advantages of low speed,high torque,quick response,high resolution and anti-electromagnetic interference capability,which bring them broad application prospect in fields of robots,industrial instruments and security technologies.Multi-degree-of-freedom(MDOF) motor is one of the most cutting-edge aspects in the ultrasonic motor researches.Several typical MDOF ultrasonic motors of different types were introduced.The structure,working principle and characteristics were mainly discussed.Some typical examples were given and the key achievements were summarized,as well as their applications.The research and development trends were proposed.

Abstract:Based on the up to date development of the ultrasonic machining (USM) technology, applications and development trends of the ultrasonic machining tool are described. Automatic control including intelligent control and adaptive control, also tools in processing as an attachment and load matching system are trends in ultrasonic machining tool. The latest applications of ultrasonic machining technology in deep hole machining, ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting, ultrasonic grinding, ultrasonic milling and ultrasonic combined machining are summarized, processing accuracy and processing efficiency have got a lot of progress. The development trends and future prospect of the ultrasonic machining technology are expounded. Studying the ultrasonic cutting mechanism, ultrasonic combined machining technology and micro-ultrasonic machining technology are the trends of ultrasonic machining.

Abstract:The traveling-wave type ultrasonic motor(TWUSM) is driven by the friction force between the stator and the rotator.In this paper,it briefly states the characteristics of ultrasonic motor and the applications in the aerospcace field;Then represents the structure,friction material,adhesive technology,temperature characteristics,mechanical characteristics,transient characteristics of series of TWUSM.Finally,proposes a nerve unit self-adaptive PID control algorithm to realize the precisely speed and position control of TWUSM.It is shown from the research results that TWUSM has a good performance and suitably be applicated in some space structures,such as space robot,lunar vehicle,solar panel and CCD,and so on.The priority research works are presented according to the aerospace application demands of TWUSM.

Abstract:The detailed parameters and characteristics of typical hybrid USMs that have been published are in this paper, and both advantages and disadvantages of them are indicated. A new type USM using diagonal slits as longitudinal-torsional converter is introduced. It is attractive for its simple structure and large torque. For the goal of fabricating large torque USM, some pivotal difficulties and their resolvents are given.

Abstract:Fristly, it is emphasized that the test research on the ultrasonic motors is very important for development of USM techniques in the paper, and some test imstruments and facilityes built are presented and some progress of the test reseaches on USMs are reported since the research center of ultrasonic motors of NUAA was found in 1997.Secondly, the paper describes in detail the objects, methods, and experiences of the modal test, transient charactistic test and mechanical performance test for the USMs.Some typical test results for the USMs developped by our center are summaried.Finally, authors point out that in order to increasee the quality of the USMs and to enlarge makets of its applications, we must contitune to improve some old test systems and to develop more and newer test systems.

Abstract:A longitudinal-torsional hybrid-type ultrasonic motor has larger torque and lower revolution speed compared with other kinds of ultrasonic motors. It drives devices directly and precisely, so it is adaptable to many fields, especially aeronautics and astronautics, as a servo actuator. Due to the different sound propagation speeds of longitudinal and torsional vibrations in the stator, it is difficult to match resonant frequencies of longitudinal and torsional vibrations. In this paper, a new radial-torsional vibration hybrid-type ultrasonic motor is put forward, which utilizes longitudinal vibration derived from radial vibration by the Poisson effect. The short, hollow cylindrical structure easily makes resonant frequencies of first-order radial and torsional vibrations into degeneracy. First, the new structure of the motor is presented. Second, the principle of matching the resonant frequencies is developed, and the motor geometry is optimized by ANSYS software. Finally, a 60-mm diameter prototype is fabricated, which performs well. The no-load velocity and maximum torque are 25 r/min and 5 N.m, respectively. This kind of motor is small, light, and noiseless.

Abstract:The objective of our research is to investigate the performance evaluation of traveling-wave ultrasonic motor with two-degree of freedom (2DOF-USM). The space structure of 2DOF-USM is introduced briefly. The mathematic model of the motor is established based on friction drive mechanism. Through relation of space location, calculating the driving force and friction force at arbitrary point of contact area, the analytical expressions of the mechanical characteristics are deduced. The influence of model parameter on motor characteristics is presented through simulation. The validity of the model is verified by means of comparing the simulation results and the experimental ones. This article lays a theoretical foundation for spherical traveling-wave type ultrasonic motorpsilas well performance and trajectory control next step. The maximum output torque of developed motor reaches 0.10 Nmiddotm, the maximum speed is 90 rpm.

Abstract:Ultrasonic motor is difierent from traditi- onal electromagnetic motor and it is driven bv friction force.It is characterized by rapidly dynamic perfor- mance and high resolution.Based on its character,this paper introduces a precise position control metho- d.Firstly,the paper points out the essentials of high resolution and stepping characteristic of ultrasonic motor in theory and experiment.Next,based on this characteristic of the motor,the paper discusses high precise position control strategy named stepping- position control method and the factors that influence position precision are analyzed.By the stepping- position control method,high precise position control (0.010°) have been realized by the experimental hybrid transducer type ultrasonic motor,which demonstrates its potential for driving high precise mechanical system,such as MEMS.

Abstract:Ultrasonic motor is different from traditional electromagnetic motor and it is driven by friction force. Its character of low speed, high torque, quick response and high power/mass ratio and the quality of direct drive make it suitable for the application in the aerospace field. The paper first states briefly the trait of ultrasonic motor and its application in the aerospace field, hen introduces the motor's structure, friction material, characteristic and the stepping positioning control strategy of a kind of low speed and high-torque ultrasonic motor. It is hybrid longitudinal-torsional type ultrasonic motor. The diameter of the developed sample motor is 80 mm;the maximum output torque is 13 Nm:the steady rotating speed is 12.5 r/min and the repeating positioning accuracy can reach 0. 020 degree. It also has wide working frequency range (about 7 kHz). Its start up time is about 5 ms and the turn-off time is about 2 ms.

Abstract:The longitudinal-torsional ultrasonic motor is characterized by low speed, high torque. However there are still many problems to be discussed in its system model. it concerned the properties of this kind of motor. The characteristics of this kind motor are studied according to the manufactured sample from the angels of theory and experiment. On the basis all kinds of factors that influenced the mechanical characteristics are analyzed , at the same time the transfer-efficiency on the contact surface is calculated, the low-efficiency of this kind motor is explained. In addition, the wide-working-frequency-range properties of this kind motor are verified by experiments.
